@Erik Sutherland:
Why do so many women in the USA and UK have sexually transmitted diseases?
I don’t know what you’re asking about; I don’t know that this is true at all, much less do I know why it is true (if it is, which I doubt).
At any given moment about 60% of the population has some illness of some kind and some degree of severity, including “very mild”.
That means the other 40% are perfectly healthy @tm.
Would any of you marry a woman with a sexually transmitted disease?
No. In fact it would be against state law for a couple to marry while either of them have an active STD.
If they had once had one from which they have recovered, that might be different.
... about 80% of sexually active people are infected with an STD at some point in their lives.
for all I know this is false; for all I know this is true.
over 80% of the population has Herpes.
Bullshit.
Even if it were true, Herpes is a genus; it includes chicken pox and shingles and Herpes simplex and a lot of other diseases, most of which are not STDs.
If they said “over 80% get infected somehow with some species of Herpes at some point in their lives, but most get over it” I might have bet that was true.
Models “show”(wrong word; “suggest” would be better) that >80% of women will have genital warts (papillomas caused by the Human Papilloma Virus) by the time they are 50 y/o.
Then those models are very buggy.
Researchers guesstimate that at least 80% of sexually active people will have an HPV infection at some point in their lives.
You can get a wart on any part of your body. Warts don’t have to be genital warts. Warts don’t have to be sexually transmitted.
I’d be surprised if fewer than 50% of pre-puberty children with an active outdoor social lifestyle don’t get at least one wart before reaching puberty.
Probably on a hand or foot. Not on the genitals.
... what are your thoughts & opinions ...?
I just told you most of them.
This is a sensationalist article designed to frighten the readers; like the “dihydrogen monoxide” hoax, say a bunch of true things that really aren’t all that alarming, but say them in an alarming context.
What if your gf/bf had an STD?
It would depend. But for one thing I’d avoid unprotected sexual activity with them until they were cured.
Would you ever marry someone with an STD?
No, my state wouldn’t license us to marry until we were both certified free of such a disease. So we’d have to postpone the wedding.
Why are STDs so common?
For the same reason any transmissible disease is common.
Syphilis started out in the New World as a childhood disease passed non-venereally between children huddled together for warmth while sleeping.
It was only when it got to Europe that it became mostly sexually-transmitted.
It seems to have gotten into the Native American human population from bear meat. Bears are the other species it afflicts.
I can’t imagine anyone would fuck a bear.
where do they come from?
Mostly from non-venereal diseases that, for cultural or geographic or whatever reasons, switch their major transmission mode to sex.
Remember babies can get syphilis and gonorrhea from their mothers during pregnancy or during birth.
AIDS, or rather HIV, is also transmissible through breast milk.
And people used to get it from blood transfusions.
Most diseases that are new to us come from animal “reservoirs” whose habitats we encroach upon.
The Black Plague was endemic in gerbils in Africa.
The “year without a summer” — the 15-month-long Fimbulwinter — changed the climate so that gerbils’ range and people’s and rats’ ranges overlapped; and the fleas began transmitting the
pestis bacterium from one host to another.
Do you believe God gives people STDs to punish people?
Hell no.
But if God existed such dastardly behavior would be in-character for him.
I much prefer “hey, shit happens” to any explanation involving God.
Why do over 80% of women have STDs?
They don’t.
Your article doesn’t prove that they do.
It doesn’t even come right out and say that they do; it just drops hints to scare you into thinking that’s what they’re saying.
Anyway, if that were true, the explanation would be the same reason that over 80% of
men have STDs.
Do you think you can find a clean woman?
I have yet to find one who isn’t ‘clean”.
In my life I’ve had sex with about five women. I’m sure other women I’d never want to have sex with, —— such as my mother and sisters and cousins and aunts and nieces and daughter and sisters-in-law and nieces-in-law and many, many others —— , were and/or are “clean”.
To find a new “clean” girlfriend I’d have to be looking for one, and I’m not.
