who are you

Posted Over 5 Years ago by Axem Metal

I'm sure most of you already know the others in this forum very well over the years. I'm pretty new and I really don't remember anyone from the Golden Age. I know bits and pieces of some users, but not much. I'm not asking for real names or any info you would be worried about providing: I just want to know you guys and gals a little better.

So, who are you all in the skin and bone and water sausage meat?

I'm a 26 year old from South Louisiana. Working as a project manager assistant for an up-and-coming general contractor in the area. Originally went to school for chemistry and geomatics, but I crapped them. Oops. Still happy with life so all's well.

Outside of work, most days I'm drinking scotch and playing some co-op game with my best friend, or watching some stupid show with the girlfriend. When I'm feeling REALLY crazy, I might take my drinking to the dive bar downtown where the best friend bartends to play some good pool which progresses into shitty pool with each drink.

Camping, archery, fooling with GameMaker, good beer, and being 12 are some hobbies of mine.

Ok people, tell us about yourselves and give us them socials

I like to jog and read. I like spending time with friends and my fraternity. but most of the time work or school keeps me busy and stressed out.

I have friends going through the nursing program at our local college, the Harvard on the Bayou. They are forever burnt out. They even perform alcohol tests on the students. In Louisiana. 27 year old male from Georgia. I work on getting gtx0 and an unrelated T-shirt design business off the ground.

For my day job, i do website development and general IT/consulting for a small business for 50+ hours each week. The pay is on the lower end of middle-class but I'm used to being dirt poor so it's nice to be financially independent and have some money saved up.

My life in general is a total mess because of the aftereffects of five years of major depression as well as a much longer time of thinking and doing things very differently from most people. Things seem to *finally* be coming together now, but it's a slow process.

22 year old full time software engineering student. Raised in a small, socialist town called Level Plains until I moved out at 18 and entered the world of capitalism. I mean, not really, I understood capitalism as a concept but I hadn't really had much use for it prior to that. I was in a relationship at the time and moved in with my now ex-fiance (the fucker) and after a few months I had to move away to college. He broke up with me a few months later on my birthday. After that I fell into a spiral of severe depression and attempted to kill myself on more than one occasion. Honestly, the only thing that kept me from jumping in front of a train the night it happened was that I'd just smoked two blunts and was too lazy to walk all the way to the railroad tracks. About a year later I started to get better, I discovered hula-hooping, here's me after about 1 month of practice. I'm much better now but haven't had the time to make another video.

I've now been hooping for two years. It was during this time of me coming out of depression that I jumped feet first into right-wing conspiracy theories. In fact, it wasn't but about a year and a half ago I was spouting out the same bullshit as 85 does now. My roommate would constantly call me crazy and we got into a big fight and stopped being friends for a while because of it. A few weeks after that fight I started to think about the things I believed, started really analysing things and realized he was right, I was crazy. It took a good long while of in depth, personal research on mostly every topic you can think of news wise to start to reject the right-wing dogma. However, I do still have my questions about 9/11 and especially about the Sandy Hook shooting (which I still believe never actually happened)

Fast forward to when I was 21, about a year later. I've become quite the liberal and am beginning to understand who I am as a person and that other people are people too, not just mindless robots built to enhance my own existence. I never actually thought they were robots, mindless though yeah... I'd fallen down another rabbit hole and was at that point more of a red leaf. Super crazy spiritual (I think I just have a niche for being insane) got involved in things like collective evolution, earth we are one, and spirit science and metaphysics community.

Strangely, this was where I started to snap out of my insanity more or less. But also depression started to creep back up on me. As a man of science, one who's spiritual beliefs constantly change to allow science to hold a place of fact in my mind, I realized that many of the "spiritual" people were not. They claimed to be about science, they would make up some off the wall shit and claim it to be fact, about the same as right-wingers do with their fear-mongering, and would outright reject science saying that they were wrong. After a while I left, though I would still consider myself spiritual, I am much more a man of science.

These experiences have led me to have an intolerance for either right-wing or left-wing extremists.

Today, I mostly stare at computer screens. I recently got out of a year long relationship and I'm still coming to terms with that in a way. I'm taking this as an opportunity to embrace the fact that I'm not exclusively attracted to men, meanwhile being aware that it's going to take a special kind of woman to make me want her. I've been looking at jobs in Canada in case Trump wins the presidency.

There's a run-down, I'm sure there are holes in it. Feel free to ask me anything.

22 year old male here (turn 23 this month). I was born in Houston, TX, grew up near Portland, OR and went to undergrad in Seattle, WA studying neurobiology. I'm currently in medical school in Chicago and I'll be here for another three years or so before going off to residency, hopefully back on the west coast.

I'm single at the moment. I am heavily into photography and music, and my favorite beverages are coffee and beer. I enjoy the outdoors, hiking, walking my dog, camping, biking and any permutation of those things. I love going to live music shows at small venues on my free nights. Right now I'm working on progressing my photography skills so that at some point I can perhaps make some cash selling prints. I'm also hoping to work on a time lapse video of Chicago over the summer just for fun.

@Growlithe: Man, I remember those pseudo-science days. It's all a crock of shit. I'm a liberal myself, but I really wish less of them would stop spouting about auras and astrology and their general nonsense, which they then pass off as credible. Nope. Nope. Sit down, fam

Never heard of Level Plains. Is it a city? Or outside of the states? I tried the Google, but the Google was no help.

I used to be a very bitter person before I turned 20, and I realized I became happier as I learned to quick putting down others around myself. I'm essentially a whole new person today because of it. Not saying this could work for you. I found my own happiness through the struggles, and hopefully you can too some day. You seem like a really good guy

@Furtive: Hell yeah, frat handshakes and alcohol and helping the community we live in. Good stuff, good stuff
Dancing is an awesome skill to have. The finesse mixed with the intensity gives you an awesome workout, and looks awesome to everyone around you. Every time I play Saints Row, I'm always wishing I had moves like Mr. President

Wherever you choose to live, I definitely suggest staying out of the southeast, haha. I do love it here, but in general this region is an acquired taste.

I'm a 29 year old male from upstate NY. I'll be married for 8 years as of next month. We have no children. I currently work as a sysadmin at a company I've been with since 2008, but we're in the process of closing so I'll be needing to find a new job in a couple months.

Gaming is my biggest hobby by far, but I also enjoy snowboarding, tennis, movies and certain tv shows and anime. Music is a pretty big part of my life, having been playing the piano since I was 4 and branching out into other instruments throughout my youth. I don't own any instruments right now though. :( I'm also really into computer and network technology - I'm the guy all my relatives bother when they need help with their computers or wifi routers. I think that sort of stuff is really fun, though, and I wish I did that for a living instead of what I currently do. I also love reading about math and science-related things, with a particular interest in meteorology (almost went to school for this) and astronomy.

Also I love beer.

I'm horrible at photography, but video? I love it. I bet you have some great photos of the urban dwellings of Chicago. I've never seen a city like that in person. I bet there's a market for that in New Orleans, Jackson, even Atlanta. They are cities, but not like the ones up north.

Do the venues host ska bands by any chance? Is it mostly acoustic or jazz-esque music?

@Jo Nathan: It seems we all sit at computer screens all day long haha. Are there any other career paths that you are looking into, or are you thinking about sticking to system admin/tech? Land surveying is a decent field with just as much in-office time as out-office. Sometimes makes me wish I stuck through geomatics.

Also, drums. Learn that rhythm, man. I can't play on a drumset very well but god damn if my little white ass can't keep a beat with the tempo. If I'm going to dance horribly, at least I can do it in proper time

Do you have to travel for snowboarding or is it close by for you?

I actually started out with drums in the high school ensemble. Not a drum set, just the percussion section in general. I did end up playing the drum set for the jazz band though, and that was pretty sweet.

There are a number of good ski/snowboarding places within driving distance from me! No overnight stays needed.

I'm a 27 year old male in the middle of nowhere for Illinois. I have to drive everywhere to do anything. I work as a Mental Health Technician, but have somehow become the leader of the Mental Health Technicians on the unit. It is perhaps because I work the afternoon/evening shift and work full time seeing all the other Technicians that work there. I'm heavily involved with work committees and that might play a part into it as well.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from a university located in the suburbs of Chicago. I am currently working on getting into the grad school for that so I can do Advanced Clinical work in Social Work for my Masters.

I am also shooting another wedding for photography this weekend to supplement my income from my other job.

When I am not working, I'm driving, listening to audiobooks, or pondering life's great mysteries. I am a Priest in my religious background. It is not as mysterious or exciting as one might think. I volunteer a lot as a result and talk and travel to various places when invited.

I'm also working on a very corny and funny video project with one of my best friends (Moonray/Dooku has seen the concept video where I make Helius dinosaur noises). And I lurk here from time to time without posting anything because I'm super busy most of the time or dealing with church related things that take up my time.

I feel you on that one, man. 100%

Percussion is percussion in my eyes. My favorite part of anything musical. Piano is almost a "cousin" of percussion? Sure, it has strings, but I still wouldn't call it a string instrument haha. I've always wanted to get an edrum to try out on. I'd like to try piano, but honestly, it is way too intimidating for me.

Very jealous of your access to snowboarding. The closest thing I have in comparison is probably boogie boarding on Bayou Lafourche and kicking gators in the face, y'all

@Jo Nathan: Thanks bud :D I'm actually surprised more than 2 people posted haha. It's great to learn more about everyone and see the person behind the online mask

@Helius: Have you ever been to Metropolis?

Sounds like a very busy yet rewarding job. That's really interesting to work at a personal level with many people. My old roommate is a parole officer, and although they are very different, I'm guessing there's a bit of similarity in striving to help others who at times aren't fully able to help themselves. Some good days, some gloomy days. Props for your dedication to the stressful (albeit extremely rewarding) environment

I love video editing and anything dealing with video! How do you like it? Also, do you solely video weddings for income or other endeavors? Keep hold of your personal videos. I have so many old ones from over the years and I still look fondly back on every single one of them.

Which religious background are you a priest of?

24 year old graduate student. Starting Thesis next fall. Ending my own life the following spring. I have a 2014 Nissan Versa. A girlfriend who I tolerate and a large collection of video games and anime.

I like a good burger more than anything but throw anything into white rice and you can call it a meal. Dr. Pepper is my favorite but I haven't had a soda in like a week and I'm going insane.

I go to Angelo State University, a place that swears it's just as good as a division 1 school. I'll admit, it's better than any other D2 school I've ever seen, but it's no UT, TTU or TAMU.

I don't have any pets. I plan on getting my own apartment here in a few months with or without my girlfriend, then I'll get a dog or a cat. I start a teaching assistant position in the fall. I don't want to live on campus with the same students I teach.

I read my kindle every night for about 30 minutes before bed. If I'm not, I'm switching between Vita and 3DS. I also like to drink a nice cup of tea before my ritual.

Florescent lights are the fucking devil so I keep a bunch of lamps around my room because I think it's the perfect amount of visibility and warmth.

I take showers in the morning. Sometimes at night if I want to sleep faster.

I have a cycling 32 pack of bottled water underneath my desk for when I want water. I don't drink tap because the water in San Angelo could and has killed people.

I'm going to Dreamhack next month and spending a weekend in Austin getting shitfaced and hopefully I'll end up dead in a river idk cross your fingers for this one folks.

I relate more to television characters than actual people. I will never be involved in a social interaction where it doesn't feel like I'm looking at people through a window.

MSS is a police officer and my dream is to someday be arrested by him.

Speed is my wife and Hindenburg is our son.

It's the pulsating light in the ellongated bulbs, which is more promintent as they go out. Try switching to a light fixture that uses T8 or even T5 bulbs. Also, getting a color temp that is lower than Bright White (anything lower than 5K should be good.) Warm White may be too red and dark for your tastes (depending on the room), but works beautifully in a den/living room. Soft White is my personal fave. Definitely all sorts of music! I am a man! A 28 year old man. Who collects comic books and video games and has a weirdly encyclopedic knowledge of Godzilla movies and history.

I work as the booth manager at a cinema. The work itself is ok, but the benefits are great. I'm paid reasonably well (a bit lower on the theater manager side, but I get paid vacation, sick days, retirement plan, and health care). And really, I love having access to the big screen after hours to play video games or watch whatever movie I want.

Love sports and am finding that basketball is my favorite, and that I enjoy a lot of sports more popular overseas like rugby, Aussie Rules Football, and cricket. But I'm still a big fan of the NBA, NHL, and, it turns out, MLB. I still loooove American football, but I just...I can't get behind the NFL anymore, mostly for non-sports reasons, although the way they levy punishments for players and teams, and their weird, pointless rule changes haven't exactly made me love NFL football any more lately either. But I'm a runner, cyclist, kayaker who plays pick up football and softball.

And, most importantly, I dabble in a little of everything, but not deeply enough to be a part of anything. I'm into sports, but I dislike a lot of aspects of sports culture and have no sports friends. I'm into gaming, but I dislike a lot of aspects of gaming culture and have, like, one gamer friend. I'm into comics but dislike the general fanboyism that comes with the culture (I'm loyal to writers and artists more than I am to companies and publishers. Even my favorite characters, I can't really just blindly follow. The new Iron Fist and Powerman book is garbage, no matter how much I love Iron Fist and Powerman and want that book to be good...) And I have no friends who read comics regularly. And I love Godzilla, but I literally know no other human beings who even gives half a shit about it here. I've been able to convince a few people to watch some and put enough historical context on them that they enjoyed them. Which is, frankly, really funny. Everything I like is more popular than it's ever been, and yet I know almost no one else who are into these things, and most of my friends don't care about any of this stuff.

So, I've learned the value of liking things solely because I like them. And doing things solely because I enjoy them.

I also have two blogs that I'm weirdly into, even though blogs are dumb and who cares? But again, I do it because I enjoy it, not because I think anyone gives a fuck what I think about anything.

My god man. I can only imagine the gaming sessions while playing on the big screen. Does it hurt your eyes at all, or is your mind too absorbed in the badassery of it all to give a shit? I think I would personally become blind, yes

You've got interests for days, bud! Nothing wrong with that. I know I'm always looking for new hobbies and feel like I'm a dull person for not engrossing myself in enough fun activities. Whiskey-fueled pillow fights while wearing onesies can only go so far.

i like beer, nicotine, and other drugs.

Good man. Indulging in forbidden fruit is fun when the time comes on a day with absolutely nothing to do. It's hard with responsibilities and the growing stigma as we all get older, but some ketamine on a Saturday afternoon with a friend is a good time. Except for when it takes us an hour to figure out how to hook up a Wii U, and then fumble with the UI to even launch the game, then finally playing Smash Bros. and realizing we are basically jumping off the stage the entire time. Can't forget that experience. Props on being so close to getting out of undergrad!

i have a cat, and he's cool. my girlfriend is pretty cool as well. my hobbies include reading, getting drunk, canoeing, and that's all.

We'd be good friends in the IRLs, I think

@Aurelian: You're basically the age equivalent of a grandpa in this gaming group, I think. That's perfectly okay because it lets all of us go to your house on weekends and eat all of your food, and by default you totally know how to make bomb-ass homemade ice cream. Because I'm a Cajun, I'm calling you Pawpaw A-Game

Pawpaw A-Game, getting immersed in the interwebs is really a way of life for everyone at this point. I remember when I was 11 and first starting out on AOL. Everything was so new and I could stay on the internet forever, wasting so much time on it. Looking back, everyone is usually on their smart phones now. I guess we all have our own cyber hangouts. :3

@Castrael: I know that struggle :/ I've worked at a few grocery stores in my time, and they usually weren't very fun. Under-appreciated, underpaid, but free cookies from the bakery at the end of the day, so life was good. Fuck being a service clerk, though. That's borderline slavery

Anthro is VERY interesting! I took a few classes while majoring in CrimJustice/Sociology at one point and genuinely loved it. I wish there was more practical use in terms of a career (well, by its lonesome; I'm sure it helps greatly when paired with other social sciences)

I am 29 and I work tech support now for Dell ProSupport.

/rant start

I can tell you now 2 weeks as a new hire: I can respect folks who are on phones all day and have great time management skills that's for sure. Multi-tasking skill that is required is insane.

I've also learned a few things about how the queue works and how people's mentalities work. To see seasoned agents who don't actualy try to understand problems.

Example:

Dell as a Dell Data Protection Program. According to the notes (which were not very detailed) it appeared they were not able to get it installed. On top of this. it appears she was unable to download that program (or any programs at all). The real issue was she was unable to download, but I keep hearing things like "You need to go do this." from other technicians notes rather than diving into the problem.

I got the case and took 2 hours to not solve the problem. I did not resolve the issue, and she e-mailed me back once the phone call was done saying the issue continued. The she informed me the issue went away with Chromium being removed. What makes me different from them? Answer that question as I sure as fuck don't feel any different.

Today got other customer calling me in telling me I am competent and dealing with other agents who are idiots (according to them). Issue was a Adobe Acrobat app not doing duplex print when it was a simple application check for the setting needed.

And I am just a piece of shit tech generalist who worked in a break-fix shop for 6 years. Versus folks who have a case load of 20 to 30. Who have been working in a queue for a year or so. They should have troubleshooting skills beyond mine given the case load but I am hearing the opposite. We are given a bunch of tools to do our jobs, but it seems alot of folks have adopted a mentality that if not in the tools we can't do any kind of critical thinking and pass it off. Don't know if I am still Jaded or what, but that's not relevant to me now.

I currently have a case load of around 25. To be able to mange them between calls is fucking ludicrous because we don't hear the "problem" what what we perceive is the problem. If we don't hit the target and miss a bunch "Oh nope transfer to another queue" because the way the machine works (which is screwed up).

/Rant End

Rant aside, I have a strong desire to help people and generally do so in IT. I am living on my own now and I learned quite a bit about myself such as I tend to be running solo and take things personally that shouldn't even taken as such.

That and I dwell on things too fucking much. To the point where simple side-comments will bother me for days (which I still don't quite understand). I am also insanely hard on myself when no one else is.

I am still quite young all things considered but I sure as hell don't feel like I have any form of intelligence when I reflect on my knowledge and what is happening in the world.

I'm 25, male, grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

At 18 me and my mom moved to American Samoa. I lived there from 2008-2010, got my Associate of Arts from American Samoa Community College. Learned a bunch of Samoan, but now can only remember Talofa, Fa'amolemole, and Ufa (Hello, Please, and Butthead (a lot more offensive than it sounds)).

Then I went to University of Hawaii for two years and graduated with a bachelors degree in Pacific Islands Studies and Anthropology. I spent about four months WWOOF'ing on a few organic farms while going through the Peace Corps application process.

Then I got sent to China, did two months of training, then was sent to Guizhou, the country's poorest province. Finished last Summer, left, then came back in November to Dalian, a port city located in a province bordering North Korea. If it collapses and refugees flood in, Ill keep you guys updated.

Going to study Chinese intensively this summer with a program called Princeton in Beijing. Im afraid it wont happen, though, for a stupid reason like not getting the invitation letter in the mail on time. That's a constant worry, nowadays.

Other than that I'm about a 7/10 looks-wise, 9/10 here in China. I'm pretty damn friendly, have a cute girlfriend, teach English at a university, collect maps from different cities I visit, and in my spare time I get high and make powerpoints for lessons that have so far included Hawaii, Peace Corps, Trump, Sanders, WWOOF'ing, and American Education.

Everyone knows the NWO is pushing the gay agenda to destoy the family unit and encourage population control. Were you just ok playing into it or was that one area you didn't research ?

@Axem Metal

It can take a little getting used to playing a game on the big screen. I don't sit very close to the screen, but it is a huge screen and is a bit tricky to take everything in. But it's also pretty awesome when you can take everything in. It's also great for playing multiplayer. Back when I had friends who could stay up late at night, we used to play some Modern Warfare or Halo, and that was pretty rad. Everyone is ust focused on their still-oversized corner of the screen.

It's also great for playing atmospheric games. I played Alien: Isolation there and it's way more intense in a giant, dark, empty theater with legit surround sound. Some other co-workers and I checked out PT there too, and that was a bad idea.

Ooo ooo I wanna do one!

I'm a nonbinary 24 year old, turning 25 in June! Planning to have a big party since I'm turning the Big 2-5. I'm graduating in May 2017 with a B.I.S in Performance Art. I'm very excited. I've been in a few plays, have two upcoming, including a children's show! For my career goals, I want to continue stage work and dabble in film work [I actually have an audition for an indie zombie film next week. I'm very excited.] I also want to voice act, specifically for video games. Anime would be cool buuuuuuuuuut.... I like video games. My long term goals are maybe grad school. If I go to grad school, it would either be for Theatre Education [preferably for elementary or high school students] or Clinical Health/Therapy so that I can use theatre as a coping mechanism for people who have been through trauma or to organize a theatre troupe centered about those that are differently-abled, whether it be mentally or physically. And not just helping them create plays about how they navigate through the world but placing them in classical roles that they may not be able to receive in the "real world" despite having the talent for it. Like, when's the last time you saw a Hamlet played by a man in a wheel chair????? And then not having the wheel chair be important to the plot or his character???? He just happens to be in a wheelchair.

I have a strong tie to the autistic community because I have an older brother with severe autism. He also arguably has the world's best collection of VHS tapes (seriously he has so fucking many).

I also paint! Pretty well if I do say so myself. I've done some scenic painting for a couple of set designs. As you can see, my life mainly revolves around theatre. Doesn't leave much room for a romantic life but I don't really care about all of that. I also sculpt, crochet, and try to get into some of the art shows here in Atlanta. There's always one going on.

I'm starting to do drag shows! Drag King, specifically. I recently entered into a show here and I'm waiting to hear back from them. My drag name is Sir Cumcision. I have a drag partner (their drag name is Jalapeno Pussy haha), but drag isn't the only thing we do. We just call ourselves Jai and Kait and we create skits and stuff of that nature. It's very fun.

I love going to bars and hanging out, museums, the park, ice cream festivals, and oogling at people's puppies in the street. [Note: every dog no matter what age is an adorable puppy i want to pet every animal in the world i love them all]

Thought I'd join in, despite rarely posting.

I'm 25 and currently live in Barcelona, Spain. I was born in Germany, in the Kaiserslautern Military Community, but later moved to Seville, Spain and was raised there. I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Economics and working for the Spanish central government. I hope to finish up my thesis within the next two years and would like to find work with the European Comission in their competition policy directorate.

I am a complete economics nerd and most of my interests, as far as politics and world affairs go, are economics related. As I mentioned before, my main focus is on antitrust/competition policy and the economic analysis of law, although I have also specialized in applied statistics and dynamical systems.

A few years ago I started rock climbing and I instantly fell in love with it. I still climb and recently did my highest climb, which was a wonderful 250m route in the Murcia region of eastern Spain. Best decision of my life.

@EN:

would love to live on a farm, but only a fruit farm.

I don't know if you're joking or not, but have you ever considered WWOOF'ing?

Because I did that for four months in Hawaii and did exactly that -- worked and lived on several organic fruit farms. They have organic farms all over the US that look for people who are willing to spend time living and working for like 25 hours a week, and provide the workers with food and accomodation (from tents to rooms). It's a great way to travel as well.

I'm 24 years old, born in Santa Ana, California, but lived in Southwest Florida my whole life (like, moved here before I was 1, whole life). I went to Ringling College of Art and Design studying Game Art and Design, but I've had a knack for visual design and training in it for quite some time. I never finished college between financial issues and problems I had with the program, but I made a lot of great work with my talents. I currently work for a company that makes golf aid systems. My job title is "Graphics Technician" but I wear many hats. Some days I'll do photo editing in Photoshop, other days vector overlays in Illustrator, sometimes I'll even make brochures and presentations and video stuff.

I like to bullshit about video games and politics. I actually attended a Bernie rally with one of my Muslim family members (which was a waste of time because he's preaching to the choir and not saying anything you can't get from his Facebook feed), but I don't do much activism other than discourse. Generally I promote empirical evidence progressive/efficient policies. When I'm not doing that I'm either working on my side game projects (development projects, that is. It's now in the home stretch) or watching Netflix. I used to be a HUGE fan of Nintendo and major advocate for adventures, but since time has become a problem I have replaced video games with Netflix.

26 years old now, part of the old GT (I don't remember how old I was at the time... probably really young) and posted a lot on the badlands but I posted in a few different places really... I remember I got banned at some point for spamming the boards with profanity (not sure which board it was). Not because I was angry but because I felt like trolling and I didn't understand how IPs worked... I eventually got unbanned and kind of just kept posting as if nothing happened. >.> Still not sure how I managed to do that after being called out.

I like drawing, music, writing and learning languages. I know French, English and a bit of Spanish and Chinese (Mandarin). Currently still learning Mandarin, even though my classes really sucked in terms of teaching us important stuff. Now I'm studying it on my own and go to choir (in Chinese) ever week while taking other classes at University. It's pretty fun and I can't complain about much in my life. Mostly just have regrets on how I used to be and what I used to do, nothing too bad but lots of mistakes... but I like how I am now.

I am WAY TOO OLD, IM 28, wished I was 24 or below, have lived in San Diego my whole life and love this city even though the traffic is almost as bad as Los Angeles is and we get wildfires often because of our holly terrain. Have been dealing with a crippled terminal illness since birth which is very much like cancer and often can be deemed worse. Love playing video games and social networking. Enjoy making as many friends as I can in real life and online (keep the old make the new), am not able bodied by any means so Ive never had any job experience but fortunately dont need to because Ive got good insurance and affluent family and sister and relatives and friends tomkeep me alive for my $3585848384828584834757473 medical bills. Have to take so many medicines to keep me healthy and not drool since my tongue muscles are almost completely paralyzed caused by jaw tumors, am on medical marijuana for pain and nausea reasons as well as drying out my mouth which drools out my saliva a lot of the time even though I have a suction cup machine like they have at the dentist office, I drool uncontrollably continuously because I cant swallow. Otherwise if he an accountant like my sister is and would work full time and would have a real life like everuolen else has here. Im lucky that I am alive at all today because my past neurosurgeon dumped me four years ago after treating me for a dozen years because my condition was too extreme and difficult for him to treat, and referred me to hospice because the tumors were all over my body growing very fast and large. My parents decided to give it one last shot for me and put me on palpable care and was certified for chemotherapy for this drug called avastin which had been known to kill the tumors for some nf2 patients and it doesnt work for everyone but fortunately for me it does and I am continuing chemotherapy treatment which I go to every two weeks and has shrunk the tumors immensely and just had my annual mri scans last week and that has shown no growth for any of the tumors in my body.

I got a switch last year for my birthday and am willing to play anyone who wants to play me in mario kart 8 deluxe and I should get splatoopn 2. Breath of the wild and oddessey are amazing games!

25 year old man who's a retail employee from Indiana. I live with my folks and grandma because I'm pretty sure if I tried to find a place with decent rent it would cost me at least 3/4 of what I make in a month. Plus my grandma has mental problems so they need my help with her.

If I'm not working then I'm at home either on my computer, watching tv, or playing my ps4. I don't get out much because most of my friends have busy schedules and I work third shift. I have four older brothers who are all married and through them I've gained three nephews and two nieces.

I try my best to be kind to others because of the example set by my parents. They're always helping friends and family with whatever and I wish to be like that as much as I can. I also try to be the best uncle I can to the kids and give them all the love in my heart.

I've never had a serious romantic relationship because I'm too nervous to ask girls out. Not to mention I have have a little bit of a self image problem. I've also never slept with a woman because of the above mentioned reasons. I've also recently discovered that I might be bi-sexual (although I can't see myself in a romantic relationship with a man, but I have found myself turned on by gay porn). So that's me

I haven't made a proper introduction here yet. I'm Teagan, aka linguistcat in a few different places on the net, mostly conlanging and conworlding fora/forums. I came over with the conworlds.fun merger, and was known as bloodb4roses. Aside from worldbuilding, I enjoy rpgs and simulation games, resin crafting and wire art. I like learning about folklore in general but I have a particular interest in Japanese, Irish, Finnish and Norse folklore, and vampire or dragon myths around the world.

I'm a fan of homestuck and the username I tend to use for fandom stuff even outside of homestuck is princeofdoom, so if you see that name on the fandom or rp parts of the board, that's also me.

So far I seem to be the only person who has filled out one of the extended profiles Xhin has enabled us with.
I’m chiarizio and eldin raigmore.
Elsewhere I’m TomHCinMI.
I was born in February 1952 CE. Well, that’s what my mom said, and she would know. Although I was there at the time, I failed to look at the calendar.
I was born in Texarkana Arkansas. But I lived the first two thirds of my life mostly in Texas; starting when my mom took me home from the hospital, to Texarkana Texas.
I lived mostly in or near TXKA TX until about age 22 and in or near Houston TX until about age 44. I’ve lived in the Detroit MI area ever since then.

I’ve been married twice and divorced twice, and have one child, a daughter born in 1995 who came to live with us in 1996 and whom we adopted in 2002.

My father, especially, and my mother, also, had talents for languages. I inherited their keen interest, but not their talent.
My dad was an excellent storyteller, as was his dad. Both of my parents were interested in science and history and geography and religion. I got those from them, too. My dad was a science fiction fan. I’m pretty sure I caught that bug from him, but I mostly remember him following my lead rather than me following his. My older sister got all four of us kids into Tolkien, one after another.

My parents were Methodist missionaries to India. That is, in America we were Methodists, and it was the Methodists who sent us to India. But in India we were CSI (Church of South India). At that time the government of India didn’t want denominationalism in Christianity to go into finer detail than “Protestant”.
My father was sent there to teach at the medical school and nursing school, and to practice at the hospital.
Once my kid brother grew up he and my father went on assignments with MSF.

What else can I tell you? I feel like the next item would be to talk about the dogs and cats and other animal companions I’ve had at various times; and that seems unlikely to be of general interest.

Read my profile, though.

@Agis, have you been on CONLANG-L or ZBB or CBB or Vreleksa or any of Yahoo!’s eGroups about conlanging or worldbuilding etc.?
If so, have we ever met IRL?

Same questions for @Famov, I guess.

Who else here is past 35? Past 40? Past 50? Past 60?

On Conlang-L (part of LISTSERV@BROWN.edu), CeruleanCentaur, who was in his 80s, was eldest; I felt comfortably younger than him.
Here, I’m starting to get the feeling that, in my 60s, I’m the eldest, or close thereto. Some of us on gtx0 are in our forties, but they seem to be a minority, and I have yet to encounter another member whom I know to be past half a century in experience.

OTOH I’m used to the youngest member of my set being around 12 y/o. How many of us aren’t teenagers yet? How many of us are younger than, say, 21?

Nobody has to answer; and if you do, it doesn’t have to be on an open thread.

I once told Cerulean Centaur that he types like a much younger person. Apparently some CBBeans think I also impress them as being about their own age, namely parent-of-a-kindergartener age.

I'm personally 28. I will say that most of the people around here are between 25-33. The original site went down over 10 years ago and most people were either barely entering their teens or just leaving them. Since not many original GTX0 members exist aside from one that I'm aware of most people are held over from those days. Chief and Psygnosis (I think?) are some of the exceptions. I'll try to stop in more often. I also suffer a lot from anxiety and some depression. It seems common in our age group unfortunately. My name is Nick, and I'm from Sydney, Australia. In the golden age I was:

- A Chocolate
- Chocco
- El Chocco
- born_to_hula
- another one i can't remember from early 2004

I couldn't stick with usernames because I was 11 years old, and liked changing it up.

I stumbled upon GT because I was relentlessly googling ways to play as Vegito, outside of the one battle with Super Buu, in DBZ: Buu's Fury on the game boy advance. Youtube didn't exist, so I was relying on text based evidence in forums. Eventually I wandered over to the Pointless, DBZ and Metroid forums, as well as the SMB64DS forum wherein I feverishly began my hunt for Waluigi as an unlockable.

You could basically say I was the gullible kid who believed characters nowhere to be found in the source code were unlockable in-game, because at that time there was no way to prove one way or another. I loved this place. It was my first foray into "web 2.0" because I was using it in a social capacity.

I tend to disappear from x0 and reappear under different names... but this place has a genuinely special place in my heart. I do miss how lively it used to be. Nothing will ever replace the feeling of refreshing the site to see if someone had replied to my thread. Nothing, ever, will replace that. So, I still pop in from time to time.

Nowadays I work as a software developer. I have more than doubled in age since i was here for the first time, (age 11, now 26)

22 year old here. Employed as a college adviser for the last 4.5 years. History major, with a background in nursing/bio. I realized that cleaning assholes was not what I wanted to do in life. Much happier now. granted I have vocational nursing as my back up.

I am 25 now. I am working as an Admissions Counselor for a University. I graduated last Spring with my BA in History. I still very much enjoy helping others, but working in admissions can be very draining depending on the times. (Hectic travel season, coupled with entitled students and parents) Overall it has been a fun ride which has kept me busy and out of trouble. My goal is to one day teach history but more than likely I will continue to work as a Support Staff/ Student Services Professional in the University system for the bulk of my career before moving onto Educational Public Policy. I am sure that I will be able to teach history as an adjunct here and there.

I am also waiting to receive final confirmation from the Peace Corps. For now it is just a waiting game.

I like to jog and read. I like spending time with friends and my fraternity. but most of the time work or school keeps me busy and stressed out. Born and raised in the central valley. The Ass Crack of California. I too am Single. I plan to live in California for the rest of my life. However I would not rule out living in one of the other west coast states and or Washington D.C.

I still live in the Central Valley. I actually do a lot of traveling through out the valley. Almost every city is the same with the similar issues and mindsets. I would like to leave for a couple of years if possible if not I will settle for extended vacations to see a bit of the world. As of right now I have a strong affinity for the City of Stockton. While it has a number of horror stories (murder capital of california at one point iirc) it really is not that bad. And I plan to move up there one day after I complete my graduate degree.

I am still single. (Ugly but proud gang gang) but I am saving up some money. I still would like to visit Washington and Oregon sometime soon and I hope to visit Washington D.C. again in the next couple of years. I no longer associate my self with the Fraternity I was with. I still have a handful of good friends from that organization who I hang out with/ talk to.

I still like to read. I do not game as much. Mostly due to the lack of interest and time. I am working on being healthier and physically fit.

I am alive, thanks for asking. I didn't know this thing still existed, until I got the itch to see. I vaguely recall being here once before, but don't remember much of it. One thing that hit me square in the face is that I definitely made those blue people emoticons. Those things are old as dirt, mango.

I don't even know if I'll fit in here or not, but whatever.

It made sense to recycle them when xabylon went down.

I'm a 29 year old insane person. I used to run on the old GT. Way back in the day. Been awhile since I thought about this site. Awe well. First came to the site when I was 13 to 14 years old. I might of been younger! Decided to post for old times sake. Have a lot of good memories with the old place.

No. No this Is not the name I used back in the day. No one remembers me anymore for good reason. I was around during...Hmm...A few names I can recall. These users were around when I was. HP Angel, Humandog, Tnu, Milliem Puzzle, Kaazoo, R2k2e, Blond Kagome, The Great Nighter, amongst just a few users. I believe two others were Rose something and Twilight Princess.

Call me...Just a ghost of the past. That makes it much more simple for myself. Yes. I was online here during the 2000's. I remained until the end. Afterwards I ventured off. I kept a few users as friends else where.

Melissa (Famous for meeting Xhin irl) is one of them. I know of Prince of Pain. I remember the days people used to spam post topics. Made it difficult to see new posts. It made the mods extremely angry all the time. Good old days...So grand.

I was often seen on the pointless fourm. Visited the depression fourm at times. I lurked in the sub fourms however. Hiding away with a small collection of friends.

Hi Everyone,

This is Foxxy, known by this username and Fox_McCuddle back in the 2001-2005 era of GameTalk. Might as well go old style here, 31/F/TX.

Lets see if I can summarize my crazy life. When I posted on GameTalk, I was living in Pennsylvania and had just moved to Texas. I was born in the Philly region and spent most of my early life in that state.

2005-2007: Moved to California, started my relationship with my ex-husband, ran back to Texas to be with him and graduated in 2007 from high school.

2008-2011: Worked at the now gone GameCrazy the entire year of 2008. My dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer, I got married in 2009, had a baby in 2010. Moved back and forth from Texas to Cali multiple times during this stretch of time. Dad passed in 2011, moved back to Pennsylvania but to the other side of the state, Pittsburgh.

2011-2014: Marriage took a bad turn, everytime I'd want to go back to school, my ex would quit his job to force me back into full time employment. I was the main breadwinner and ex would go year long stretches with no employment. I got sick of it and moved to Utah to live in student housing at an accelerated computer science school.

2015-2017: Things got MUCH worse with the ex, after my family joined me from Pennsylvania to Utah, he got arrested for assaulting me and ended up back in Texas in the middle of 2015. Predictably his family was on his side and tried to get in middle of our divorce. I did the strategic thing; I did not drop charges of the assault and decided not to go forward with the divorce for now. This strategy worked. My ex husband was finally remorseful after a failed suicide attempt and granted me the divorce in late 2016. Early 2016 I started a cautious relationship with my now fiancee. Him and his entire family from the beginning claimed my daughter as their step-child/grandchild. I've never met more wonderful people. In 2017 I graduated from college and got my first job with a huge tech company. I moved to Michigan for my job, this worked out well as my fiancee is from Michigan and this was going home for him.

2018-2019: This job was a fixed-term position which meant at the end of it I would have to find a new position. It was also a rotational job, so during the summer of 2018 I lived temporarily in NYC for my job rotation. After my rotation ended, I scrambled to find new employment, in the month of May I ended up in over 30 job interviews across several major companies. I finally ended up with 3 different job offers, one in Pittsburgh, one in Detroit, and one with the same company in Austin. I chose to stay with my company and in the summer we moved to Austin.

Today: I've been in my permanent position for a year. I love living back in Texas and for the first time in this decade my life is finally stable. I've started taking care of myself again and I'm able to breathe now that my career has finally started. I'm still a gamer though I don't get to do that as much as I used to. I get married end of this year. 2020 for most people has been the craziest year ever, but for me, it was the year I finally got my life stabilized and so far, personally it has been a good year for me. I'm sorry for everyone going through hardships caused by this pandemic, I'm one of the lucky ones as my job can be 100% remote with little issue.

My moving history in tangible format, that's a lot of moving in 12 years haha:

PA > TX > CA > PA > UT > MI > NY > MI > TX =P

I review this thread every couple of years just to see how much my life has changed (for better or worse)

I am sure that I will be able to teach history as an adjunct here and there.

I am also waiting to receive final confirmation from the Peace Corps. For now it is just a waiting game.

I am turning 27 this year. (2.5 months away). At the moment I am single, unemployed and I live with my parents. It really does suck If I am being honest. Pre-Covid (4-5 months ago) I was living the best part of my life. (So far) Happy serving in the Peace Corps working and living Guatemala. Proving to myself that I can really survive and excel working and living abroad in a developing country. I was happy serving the communities I was living in, working with students, and pursuing the simplest of hobbies that interested me. (Running, Learning to play the Guitar, Mastering Spanish and Reading) There were many challenges. (Questionable access to water, finding scorpions in your water jug, hiking 3 miles up hill with my laundry, mental breakdowns, anxiety, GI issues) But they were bearable.

Now months later I am low key miserable but chugging along. I love my family but being stuck in my parents home has done a serious number to my mental health. (well that coupled with a number of other things) I reached my breaking point a couple of days back and it was not pretty. I am okay now, but I have a lot of things I have to address. It is kinda funny 5 months back I was at my highest point in my life. And a pandemic later I am at the one of my lowest points in my life. (ironically my past experiences prepared me to handle my current situation) My friends all agree that I am handling it well considering my circumstances and remind me that it is okay for me to feel this way as four months ago I was living a completely different life. What has made it hard for me is that every aspect of my life has been turned upside down. When I left I did so because I had completely outgrown my old life and wanted something different. And now being forced to return to the place that I voluntarily left in the first place a place I have outgrown ten-fold is tougher than I would have ever imagined. (every aspect of my life that was progressing in Guatemala is now at a Stand Still and or regressing so there is that)

Professionally I am not completely sure what I want to do in life. But I do have an idea. I realized a week or so ago I want to work with Latino communities. Specifically in education. That includes either domestically in Higher Education or abroad. I have been half assing applications here and there and unsurprisingly havent gotten any calls back. Which was fine but now I am moving to address that. Ill be applying to more jobs in Higher education in and out of state of California. I also applied to graduate school but I wont be moving forward with it. I still enjoy history but I have no interest in pursuing a graduate degree in it. I think I will be moving forward with an MPA or Dual MPA.

Ill be applying to some out of state jobs in Washington, Oregon, Utah and Colorado. I still very much want to return to the Peace Corps so Ive been hesitant in finding a job. (Hence the half assed applications)

I still have a handful of good friends from that organization who I hang out with/ talk to.

I still like to read. I do not game as much. Mostly due to the lack of interest and time. I am working on being healthier and physically fit.

Jogging is the only thing that has kept me sane. I have managed to keep the 50lbs I lost off. (My weight fluctuates between 200-205lbs) My plan is to lose another 30lbs hopefully. I dont plan to live in California for the rest of my life now. The world is too big for that nonsense. I cant be half assed to read a book these days. Mostly because my mind wanders. But I have been enjoying listening to audiobooks.

I still game here and there but I cant do it for excess amounts of time. For one my body cant really handle it. (I get dizzy/ eyes strain if I am gaming for my than an hour or two) And for what ever reason video games is the only medium where I actively feel that I am wasting time. (Even though I spend a lot more time on social media wtf)

I recently realized that I enjoy making other people laugh with my stupid comments/ actions so Im going to be doing something with that through FB/ Instagram. I would kill to learn the guitar but I cannot self teach myself and or try to do it virtually. (My mind is not wired for it and I need one on one clarification from a teacher) Ill be focusing my efforts on Mastering Spanish.

I go by IKM, OI, and some people call me Red Leaf although I don't like that name too much. I joined the original GT back in 2001 to search for tips and tricks on Final Fantasy 8, and I was impressed that at the time the forum was actually still active. I remember Kingdom Hearts was a bustling metropolis of a forum in those days.

31/M/New Brunswick, Canada

To most of you I probably don't need any introduction. After all, when I'm active I'm really active and I'm a global poster and I was a global poster even back when the site was big enough that it meant something.

I have a diploma in Policing and Corrections and usually I do security guard work because actual policing and corrections are pretty depressing jobs. But I quit my security job to look after my grandmother when she got sick, and after she died, I stayed with my grandfather to look after him too. I don't currently work. I'm of more use to my grandfather when I'm at his house. I asked him one day if he would get any benefit out of me working, and he said he wouldn't and that he'd rather I stay at the house. We don't have any money problems so it's kinda like an early retirement except that I do some heavy lifting, snow removal, and other random physically intensive tasks (for him) like taking the garbage down or grabbing the paper and mail. it's a very symbiotic relationship and i think more millennials and gen z should take care of their grandparents because nursing homes have never been more dangerous than they are now, and lets face it, they were never great to start with.

Presently I am finding world events and political talk exhausting, repetitive, and pointless. That's probbaly why you haven't seen too much of me on here this year.

I don't have anything particularly significant, my life is pretty laid back. Seeing a lot of you aiming for bigger things is really great!
I mostly want to be left alone and have good friends. I live in Washington, have 5 children and recently got married. We drove halfway across the country to New Mexico to see his parents, which was by far the best road trip/vacation I've ever had.
Some of you might remember I used to argue a lot and was overall obnoxious, but I let go of that (my husband would say otherwise). I am now more in favor of just wanting peace and getting along. I don't have the energy or will to have long debates anymore. Raising a small army and a collection of animals is draining.
Our ultimate goal is to have a family homestead and be as self-reliant as we can. Hopefully far away from Washington.

CZM is an acronym for Condition Zero Media.

"Condition zero" is a term used in firearms readiness scales, indicating the state in which a firearm is ready to fire.

"Zero" also references a personal theme relating to some of my previous screennames, especially "null". Though this had a much more negative meaning in the past, I also now associate it with something positive - the null hypothesis, especially how it is used in skeptic dialogues. (Yes, I am aware of the inherent humor of referring to the concept of zero as being positive/negative.)

"Media" indicates how I intend to use this personal brand to create content under.

I decided on this partly because it gave a sense of gravitas that would hopefully remind me to not act like an asshole, partly because of obscure personal interests and partly because I think that it sounds cool.

To update what I posted 5 years ago.

I learned some lessons from stress and what-have-you. I also matured some (oddly enough). Picked up meditation to help with controlling my emotions as I am getting worse with handling that these days (after being under stress alot from my job choice). Also learned being hard on yourself is unnecessary if you're using that as a means to improve as general desire to improve and be more competent will get you farther. Despite what others may think of you, or what you may think of yourself, you are your biggest ally (or worst enemy) if you don't give yourself some love and respect what you can do and where you came from.

I also learned to take everything with a grain of salt. I am not longer part of a big company and work for a small one (work in one of the satellite offices). Big corporations (if not already obvious) not what they're cracked up to be. Admittedly, it's left me jaded and mistrustful (by default) of big companies.

The desire to help people hasn't change that much, but patience with people is generally on a downward trend (just because of the ridiculously stupid shit going on these days). There are good people out there, but they're getting harder to find these days (I will easily admit it's questionable if I am one of them).

Back in my late thirties/early forties I finally figured out that just because something needed to be said didn’t mean I needed to be the one to say it.
Originally I applied this only to not dominating conversations I didn’t need to dominate.
....
Lately I’ve expanded the concept.
I can recognize that someone needs to empathetically listen to the other side of a conversation, and still recognize that I can’t possibly do that, without feeling like a failure.
Or, at least, theoretically and sometimes practically.
...
There are 7,800,000,000 people in the world. My Christian friends say we’re supposed to love all of them as if they are siblings.
Well, I can’t do that; for nearly all of them I love even my pet animals more than I love those people.
I just don’t have that capacity.
These days, about half the time, I can convince myself that doesn’t make me a bad person.

Just because something needs to be done doesn’t mean I have to be able to do it.
