Possible scenarios for a “God” more simpatico than those of traditional religions

Posted 2 Months ago by chiarizio

1. God the sustainer and ruler of the universe is not the Creator. Instead God stumbled upon or inherited the Universe. The original Creator is no longer available. So the current God doesn’t really know where all the switches and knobs are; and/or doesn’t exactly know how everything works. If shit goes wrong it’s not necessarily all Their/Its/Her/His fault.

2. God the Sustainer and Ruler of the Universe is now a vigorous and competent Deity, but when They/It/She/He created the Universe They were a tyro. They designed-in and built-in several mistakes that They — and we — just have to live with and work around.

3. God the Creator was a vigorous and competent Deity, but God the Sustainer and Ruler is now senile and feeble, and above all unobservant and forgetful. If shit goes wrong They might not notice, or might not remember how to fix it.

4. God the Creator is interested in ethics; in particular, in the ethics of how a being should treat their equals and/or near-equals. God has never had an equal and never will have an equal. So They/It/She/He created a species of beings who are each others’ equals and near-equals and set them (that is, us) the problem of working out their (ie our) ethics. If They don’t intervene when shit gets bad it’s because They never had any intention of intervening; that would ruin the experiment which is the whole point of Creation.
Corollary; one thing God would never do is give the experimental species anything like the Ten Commandments.
This God is not the Sustainer nor Ruler of the universe, but rather the universe’s Observer.

5. God the Creator and Sustainer and Ruler of the Universe created it in order to observe things like celestial mechanics and particle physics and chemistry and so on. They never intended intelligent life to arise; They’re not surprised that it did, but they don’t find it interesting and don’t pay it any attention.

....

I have more.

Can you think of any?

Have you any comments on these I’ve written about here so far?

Seems like this God would make a good anime character. He's trying his best but he just doesn't know everything. He cries when people burn and die in volcano eruptions and stuff.

I think it would be cool if God/Goddess is really just an alien with power magnitudes of magnitudes above our comprehension but they're still alive, have emotions, and make mistakes, and inherited maybe not the whole universe but maybe just the milky way as a training program from actual omniscient God so that they can one day succeed God. So like they see mistakes that happened and only have a few planets where advanced life can flourish anyway. They saw what happened to the dinosaurs and have been deflecting dangerous asteroids away from us.

I like both of those!

in my opinion they’re enough different from the ones I posted to start with to rate being called a 6th option.

BTW IKM and I killed Mufasa er both the same person, me. I just get lazy sometimes. I actually write about such aliens. One such philosophy that they have is that, they'll protect humans from things that aren't their fault, like asteroids, solar flares. But they refuse to protect humans from their own nuclear weapons, bad climate or pollution habits, or cities too close to volcanoes. Basically, the Goddess respects our intelligence enough to know we can protect Earth and take care of the life here, and they only interfere with stuff that is completely unfair that would cause our extinction. If humans cause their own extinction the Goddess will watch and do nothing.

@IKM:
I’d like to read more about your most-recently-posted-to-this-thread idea or ideas.
Do you have any desire to develop it or them further?

My idea is kinda human-centric so it's flawed in a way. But basically about 5,000,000,000 years ago a Godlike uplifter species created a more local class of humanoid superhero tier Space Angels. So even the aliens are relatively young on a cosmic scale. They were tasked first with orchestrating a collision between the original Earth and Theia using the tools the Uplifter God gave them, which is basically things like matter, gravity, physics, star power, etc. It's kinda like universe sandbox 2 if you've played that game, except that these Gaianesians have lesser God powers themselves.

They fucked up a couple times, which caused mass destruction such as the KT Boundary evidence, and the Permian Mass Extinction, but their ultimate goal has been to cultivate organic life into a form physically similar to their own. About 2 million years ago when creatures like homo erectus were coming along, they started to get really excited, and started genetically modifying us toward intelligence, tool use, and every so often they drop stuff on our planet that acts as blue prints. They'd build stuff like the pyramids, stone henge, easter island statues, machu pichu, sometimes just to fuck with us, but also so that we can understand that we can build large structures and eventually cities and machines. Around 50,000 years ago, they extracted humans from Europe and heavily genetically modified them and gave them advanced technological blue prints, and that group of near-human aliens now spans about a third of the milky way. The Uplifted became the uplifter, and the original God is working on other projects, leaving the Local cluster of galaxies alone. The human relative aliens are the ones who protect Earth and humanity. Their technology, speed, strength, and intelligence are astronomically higher than ours, and their life spans are about 5000 years if they don't use their advanced healing chambers to reverse aging.

Humans make good use of their wisdom/intelligence because we have reasonably long lifespans compared to other animals. But these aliens can live 50-60 times longer than we do, and understand things we can't fathom due to being hardwired to do so.

Power leveling is a bit rough.

So the hierarchy as it presently stands is: God>Space Angel Aliens>Humanoid Aliens>Humans

The Angel aliens have jurisdiction over Andromeda, the Milky Way, and a few other galaxies. The Humanoid Aliens have jurisdiction on a local level over the part of the milky way they inhabit, and humans have jurisdiction over Earth, the moon, mars, and anywhere else in our solar system that we can get to.

Maybe. Not soon though.

O K. I was thinking of just starting a thread there and copying a few of your last several, posts there. I didn’t because I thought you should have naming rights. Now I realize maybe I shouldn’t assume permission; I’ll not do it unless and until you ask me to. (Actually I expect you’ll do it yourself when you’re ready, and just make sure I’m tagged.)
