nintendo put out another limited release both for physical and digital and it makes even less sense to me than

https://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2020/10/22/nintendo-is-releasing-yet-another-switch-game-thats-only-available-for-a-limited-time/ It was the first fire emblem game and in certain locations that would mean it has the only official english translation and release there will ever be. With 3d all-stars at least these games were officially released in the first place before 3d all-stars. But now with this you either get it for a limited time or officially it's gone forever except for the overpriced physical version which will no doubt become very very overpriced and rare when it runs out of stock (though it does have some cool little things).

Now this doesn't personally bother me too much because if I wanted to play that I can just play it with a rom and apply an english fan-made translation patch. But the thing is other people refuse to do that and the thing is because it's limited time people will just buy it up as much as possible right away thus doing the artificial scarcity for a game that otherwise has no official release. I find it kind of scummy honestly.

I really hope that nintendo doesn't make a habit of this. Things like this should DEFINITELY NOT be limited releases.

I agree. This limited release concept is only there to artificially create scarcity and drive up demand.

However, my guess is that these games will come back in another form. I doubt Nintendo would go through the effort to translate the game to English just to take it away after a short period time. Same with All stars where I feel we will see the games in the compilation get sold individually.

I mean I hope so. But if they don't release them later non-limited I honestly wouldn't be too surprised either. Nintendo has been rather disappointing lately.

Yeah, they kind of have. The whole limited release thing started with the NES Classic, then happened again with the SNES Classic but those kind of made sense in a way. Still disappointing they didn't just continue to produce them since they constantly sold out.

In a way I feel like this is just Nintendo being classic Nintendo, not to excuse the practice. However it does cause alot of talk and publicity about the product that drives up sales. 3D Allstars is breaking sales records so people must not to be too upset about it.

I think it's more a lot of people are upset about it but they also want it so if they boycott it they still lose out. I mean I thought about doing the same initially for this limited fire emblem game but decided against it later on.

Yeah, it's strange that an NES game would get an individual release at all but I think that's due to it having a translation for the first time. Maybe after it's been out for a while for individual purchase it will get added to the NES Online App which is where it should be going anyway.
