My Switch's battery

Posted 2 Weeks ago by -Riku-

Is it normal for the Switch's internal battery to decrease over time even when it's not on? Like I took my switch off the docking station last night so I could take it with me to play at work when I go on break. The thing was at 100% when I left the house. A few hours later I sit down for my break, turn on my Switch, and the battery is at 97%. Then there are times when I'll leave it off the docking station for a few days, not having played it at all, and when I turn it back on the battery is at like 15%.

Batteries do drain over time even when not in use, this is normal for any battery. I couldn't tell you what's a normal rate for the battery in the Switch though as I don't pay enough attention. Dropping to 15% after a few days whilst it is turned off would seem unusual to me though.

Also is your Switch actually OFF or is it just in Sleep mode? In sleep mode it still periodically connects to the update servers and does any updates as needed, so if it's in sleep mode that could account for it.

Correct. If you are just hitting the power button on top and putting it in sleep mode, it will still drain the battery as the system will monitor for game and system updates. you'll want to hold the power button or home button for a few seconds and then choose power off from the menu that pops up to turn the system completely off. Keep in mind that doing this will cause any game that you have suspended to be closed.

Ah ok. That makes sense. Thanks for the info.

in my experience it is not worth shutting the system entirely down. I used my switch on communte too, switching it all the way down and booting it up also takes energy and i felt that if anything, it was even worse.

If you take a long break without it being charged, it is worth it of course. Just for the way from home to train..nope *shrugs* thats how i felt anyway. I used to often shut it down whilst working though.
