[unparsed][quote:19396bd8c8="Xhin"]You again, Cerne? You're crazy, you know that? :D[/quote:19396bd8c8]
Yeah I kinda assumed as much.
[quote:19396bd8c8="Xhin"][b:19396bd8c8]And I have thought about turning the previous "proto-conworld" idea that my main conworld stemmed from into a seperate conworld in its own right, but I don't know how far that will go.[/b:19396bd8c8]
Don't do it, it's a trap! :D [/quote:19396bd8c8]
Heh heh. Umm, no. I divested everything else from that conworld for good reason and I am not about to re-unite them. Not through space [i:19396bd8c8]or[/i:19396bd8c8] time. Too many differences.

[quote:19396bd8c8="Xhin"][b:19396bd8c8]Once my conworld reaches its Space Age, I will need to design other planets with alien civilizations as complex as those on my main conworld.[/b:19396bd8c8]
Or you could just pull a "99% of all Sci-fi ever created" and make your aliens be some combination of native americans and asians, with a couple of ideas from black cultures thrown in, to make malevolent cultures seem moreso. It's a sad trait of Western unoriginality.
I wonder what china-centric science fiction is like?.[/quote:19396bd8c8]
Huh? Hey, what do you take me for? I'm an Anthropologist, after all
Seriously though, I don't think that would be a problem for me as I start my con-cultures from the ground up instead of modelling them off of real cultures on Earth. Incidentally, many of the con-cultures I tried scratching out for the creatures I have so far (which aint a lot) tend to resemble organized animal groups on Earth, with what little material culture they have resembling something simple and organic (I.e. seaweed clothing...or more often, none at all) and social cultures being based off of something I have already thought of for my main conworld (I.e. matriarchal societies). The closest I can come to in popular media would probably be those of the creatures in some of Jim Henson's movies (not the muppet ones though). I think I've done a good enough job on the cultures I have for my main conworld as they don't seem to follow any stereotypes. Thing is, it took a lot of thinking and re-modelling to get them that far. And if I decide to go for this extended con-universe idea, I'll have to do the same for each and every one of the cultures on the other planets as well. Which, as I said before, will be a very daunting task.
[quote:19396bd8c8="Xhin"][b:19396bd8c8]A few aspects of cenosaur religion and beliefs (they are starting to show similarities to Shilamzhu belief system).[/b:19396bd8c8]
Well, I'd certainly expect them to, if they're even within a hundred miles of each other. On Earth, cultures integrate with one another all-too-frequently, to the point where finding an original "proto-culture" for any part of the world becomes a daunting task. For example, the Semitic creation story is the one known the most in the world (a.k.a. christian creation story), but it's remarkably similar to the creation stories of nearby cultures, ie Sumeria, Babylon, Egypt. And most hopelessly of all, the story of Noah has its
Parallel in the chinese myth of Nüwa. Cultures are NOT likely to remain seperated for long, on ANY world![/quote:19396bd8c8]
Not if they are isolated. What about the belief systems of Finland? Japan? The pre-colonial Americas? Indigenous African, Australian, Melanesian and Siberian belief systems? The cultures you list have a higher probability of cultural contact than that of the more isolated smaller-scale societies. From what I've read, the myth of the flood may have stemmed from a real-life flooding event that occurred somewhere in (I think) the lower part of the Arabian peninsula where the site of Jericho existed before the whole area dried out. That was atleast a thousand years or so before Sumer and Egypt came along so it is possible that the story of that flooding could have reached places like India and China at or before the myths of Noah, Manu and Nuwa became known. I still have one of the sources I got this information from (well, not at this very moment) so I will post a quote from it if you are interested.
Anyway, the Shixsa and Shilamzhu (see? Now the names even sound similar :? ) cultures had not been in contact until well after the belief systens in both cultures were established. The two species even evolved completely seperate from one another so I am at a loss as to how the two belief systems could have converged. As of now I am trying to simplify the Shilamzhu belief system into a series of folk tales centered around multiple deities (polytheism) that represent the sun, the two moons, the sand/dust in Shilam, etc. It's not going very well, especially when I get to the myth of creation. Tamiran beliefs will be centered around the sea, I think, so if I can avoid the concept of ancestors coming from the sky for the Shilamzhu, I should be OK. But then where do they come from? Maybe they have another ground-based belief system like the Mokuri religion?
If you want to know more, I'll post an analogy of the two belief systems on your other thread (the one where I requested your help on this issue).
[quote:19396bd8c8="Xhin"]BTW, Cerne, when are you going to post some more stuff of yours here? We're (see: me) all waiting impatiently![/quote:19396bd8c8]
I already have. The information is in snippets all over the board in threads whenever members ask about certain aspects of a conworld. I don't like the idea of compiling masses of information onto one seperate thread because that creates a reliance on the board to display and store information, which I would rather not do. I would prefer have my own webspace for that. In the meantime I will just wait for more requests for information to come along. Thanks for your comment though :) You would be among the first to show an interest in my conworld.
