Bo Burnham has apparently returned

Posted 1 Week ago by Axem Great Water

With two new music videos on his YouTube channel. Looks like he left because of pretty severe anxiety giving him panic attacks on stage. I REALLY like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1BneeJTDcU
Anyway, here's a playlist for the rest of his album (don't worry, it's on his own channel): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Tnux7K3MOQ&list=OLAK5uy_k90oyL9rMAHPNupVRm4P3Ed2zBJrKAbT8

Oh, my dude, it's from his new Netflix special! Which I *highly* recommend.

Eh. I'd have to get Netflix. Maybe if I can find somewhere to pirate it.

I didn’t know I’d like him!

Oh, man, he was REALLY big a bit over a decade ago. He was all over Comedy Central. I don't know if CC is still a big deal, since I don't watch cable anymore, but it was back then.

I'm sure you can find a way online. But the whole special is pretty much the culmination of all Burnham's work. In some ways I think a lot of folks will compare it to his previous specials, especially "Make Happy," but I honestly think it's a more organic extension of his film Eighth Grade than anything. Thematically, at least, there's a strong through-line with his entire career.

But the special is really impressive and, for something made effectively by one person, a stunning technical achievement as well. It is getting a very limited theatrical distribution next week.

It was actually pretty good, and I usually hate things. The songs were good for the most part. I wasn't a fan of the fake crying though.

The fake crying was clearly fake crying, to be sure, but the entire piece is ultimately about the blurred lines between authenticity and performance.

Well it's not as if he was thrown down a reactor shaft...

When did Eighth Grade come out? That was 3 years ago, right? 2018, I think?

The album, which is available on Spotify, is a pretty good approximation for the special if you don't have access to it. But I also really do think it all works together very well in an overarching way for the special and highly recommend checking it out if you ever get the chance.
