age of calamity questions may contain spoilers

Wikipedia hasn't been very helpful on details of the game and Zeldapedia is inactive. The only thing I was able to find is the playable characters; apparently, present day characters like Sidon are playable.

Other than that, all I know is a.) It's a prequel to Breath of the Wild set the 100 years ago when Calamity Ganon took the Divine Beasts, and b.) Its style is that of Hyrule Warriors.

What I haven't been able to find out is:

1. Are they all playable right away? If not, are any of them (or at least Sidon) really hard to unlock (I remember the LAST royal Zora I couldn't wait to play as was kinda tricky to unlock).

2. What modes are there? Does it have a Free Mode like Hyrule Warriors?

3. Are any levels annoyingly difficult on easiest difficulty setting?

4. How does the story go? Is there time travel involved? Does it undo Breath of the Wild? Or do they pull a "Ocarina of Time" and split the timeline again?

Judging from the Demo I am going to say that no, that characters wont be available until the story line introduces them.

Can't be sure but all I am seeing from google is that it just has a campaign mode that can be played solo or co-op.

3. Are any levels annoyingly difficult on easiest difficulty setting?

Again, judging from the Demo, I'm going to say no.

Well, the story leads up to the events seen in BotW. The beginning has the little guardian going back in time to warn everyone about whats going to happen. Again, from what I have read so far it does not undo BotW story or split anything. I could be wrong as I have not played the main game yet.

Have you played the demo?

I haven't. So if there's only one mode and characters are unlockable by playing it, how are Sidon and the others (Yunobo, Teba, and Riju) playable when it's set 100 years ago? Only Sidon would even exist at this point and he'd be really young based on a DLC flashback.

Has anyone here played it so I can know? I don't want to gamble with this, though at least it sounds like it won't be too hard.

Maybe you should so you get some answers to your questions.

Look man, have you tried Google? I literally just googled Age of Calamity Story spoilers and got a ton of results results like:

Look, I'm all about discussing games and answering "What If" and "How to" questions but almost all of your questions could be answered with playing the demo and doing some light google searching.

Hell, you can read reviews of the game that are out right now. It's been getting mostly favorable reviews with many saying the story isn't as strong as they would have liked but the gameplay is great and makes up for it.

So it's an alternate timeline where someone was sent back in time from the moment Calamity Ganon took control of Hyrule Castle (as opposed to the ending of Breath of the Wild) so I don't have to worry about BotW being rendered meaningless. (Should've seen it coming given that Hyrule Warriors is also an alternate timeline)

But is there any truth to what I read about playing as Sidon, and is there a Free Mode like the original Hyrule Warriors? (I guess if nothing's overly difficult it wouldn't hurt to get it. Will there be enough room on my Switch with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Super Mario Party, Spyro: Reignited, Hollow Knight (virtual console), and Final Fantasy VII (virtual console)?

Saw a video of the final boss, so it looks like Sidon and the others come over from the future, I guess I'll find that out, and I read you unlock him after the second mission of Chapter 5.

Which leaves the question of whether there's a Free Mode...

It's not meaningless as Previous zelda games take place in different timelines.

If there isn't you could easily get a micro SD card with a larger storage capacity. I have a 256gb in my switch.

Again, everything I have read has lead me to believe it does not have a free mode. Just a Campaign that can be played solo or co-op.

But wait, if there's no Free Mode then what's up with there being a list of playable characters?

It'd be SO MUCH easier to ask around, or better yet, look up exact details, if Zeldapedia was still active!

Made even worse by the fact that a lot of Zelda games require assistance to beat, at least the first times, but now, outside of this site, it's virtually impossible to ask about something you're not sure about.

(I am original Giga Bytes7, I had to use a different username because for some reason it's not letting me use it anymore saying "identity invalid" even though I'm using the right password, must've been a glitch in relocating the site or because of the hacks. It is, however, letting me edit them)

All right, now this forum's back up and running, I've beaten it and can answer my own questions now.

You do unlock characters as you play the stages, and across the map is where you select the stages. First time playing them is like Legend Mode, and after that replaying them is like Free Mode, and the only characters you can't play as (aside from any you haven't unlocked yet) are ones that specifically have to be in a role that requires you to not play as them at the time (like, you can't play as Hestu for the first half of the Lost Woods, as you unlock him midway through).

Then there are bonus stages that are like Adventure Mode. Some you can play as any character (like Molduga level), others require you to be a specific character (like Sidon's Training level you have to be Sidon).

I'm finding it pretty enjoyable, I've got all 16 characters (including the Great Fairies and Monk Maz Koshia), I've got them all pretty high level, and Sidon the highest, having surpassed Link. I killed Thunderblight Ganon as Sidon on the final stage while he was four levels above me. The only level I truly found annoying was the one where you have to fight Thunderblight Ganon and a Lynel at the same time (I think Fort Hateno?). But I've never once died, the only times I ever lost were Zelda being killed by a Guardian in Stage 2 (before I could control her) or running out of time, which was always on bonus stages.
