"Hello this is my friend Margaret"
because you are technically friends so you arent lying

Yes, that’s good when she’s there, or I’m introducing her, or I don’t need to say anything that prerequires a better understanding of our relationship..

How about step-wife? Or wife-in-law?
> How about step-wife? Or wife-in-law?
Makes sense to me!
My brother-in-law wants me to call his new wife “Margaret”; and he says that’s what she wants too. So that’s what I do around my niece and nephew and step-nephews and brother-in-law and Margaret.
I think I’d get as much comment or side-eyes from “step-wife” or “wife-in-law” as from “sister-in-law”.
Perhaps I should just resign myself to feeling weird?
Many friends and acquaintances say that I am, in fact, weird, so that would just be accepting and owning reality!
