We're gonna need a bigger boat.

Bruce Willis has been in an average of three feature films per year for the last decade. The vast majority of them are hot trash. The last good films he was in were from 2012. He's just been in a lot of generic action movies where he kinda shows up and mumbles some dramatic stuff, maybe hobbles around with a gun for a scene or two. It's sad.

William Shatner is better than Bruce Willis

Oh and Willis had a 90 million divorce settlement. A lot of actors make crappy movies after their wives divorce/marry them for money. For example, look at Robert Deniro.

That happened 20 fucking years ago. Stop trying to blame ebul wimmen for everything.

To be fair Willis's career was largely over after 1999/2000.

Fine, but in De Niro's case it is true. He just doesn't have the longevity of a William Shatner I guess.

He was pretty good in Glass.

A sequel of a movie he did in 1999 2000. Glass got middling reviews. I'm not saying he can't come back. Just that there's a clear timeline for his mid life crisis even in his acting career. Willis peaked in the 90s.

Oh No........He Didn't!

Actually, I would have loved to see die hard with Kirk.

The problem is, Bruce Willis is an action star and lacks any acting talent to do anything else. So like Jean Claude Van Damme, Sylvester Stallone, and Schwarzenegger, he's become decrepit, antiquated, and hackneyed. If Bruce Willis was a versatile like William Shatner, or Jack Nicholson, he could do something different. This guy is over 60 years-old and I, like everyone else, find it unbelievable that as old as he is we're supposed to find it believable when Willis beats up thugs in his movies?

Dude, that was sort of exactly how Willis made a name for himself. When he appeared in Die Hard, he was very much the perfect model of the unbelievable action star.

The age thing could be part of it. He hasn't seemed particularly interested in the roles he's getting. Should probably just keep trying to become a Wes Anderson staple.

During the beginning of his career, was a cool looking, witty, muscle bound guy and now he looks so depressed and stuck in the past, clinging to the successful days of his career. He's so morose in his movies and it looks like he's this way irl too. It's like he's as uninterested in his work as we are.

I don't think it's not so much to do with his age as it is his attitude. Again, Shatner and Nicholson continued to have lively performances well into their 70s. Aging is a part of life, but being mosierable is a choice.

Even when his movies weren't that good, he still possessed a charm that distracted from the lousiness of the movie.
As for Die Hard, he's transformed that franchise into a bland, cliched debauchment with those horrid last two movies, Live Free or Die Hard and A Good Day to Die Hard. The downfall of his character in Die Hard from a well-adjusted, guy with a biting sense of humor to a disheveled, shallow depressed guy mirrors Bruce Willis' real self perfectly.

Imagine if William Shatner was in die hard, it could be called Shat Hard, Shat Hard with a Vengeance, and Live Free and Shat Hard.

Eh, normally I wouldn't like the vulgar talk, but hey at least we're talking about William Shatner.

I think the fourth one is easily the second best Die Hard. I personally have never seen the fifth one but I don't think it's fair to say that Bruce Willis alone made the fifth movie bland considering he didn't write, direct, or produce the movie.

We playing armchair therapist now? You somehow have insider knowledge to Bruce Willis' life?

The last good films he was in were from 2012.

I haven't seen Glass but I'd say 2014 considering he was in the Sin City sequel. Looking at his movies since Sin City most of the movies he's in go directly to on demand, like...an alarming amount. He's been in 2 movies that got released in theaters between Sin City and Glass (not counting the Split cameo).

Bruce Willis was specifically cast in Die Hard because he wasn't a "cool-looking action hero." He was this kinda nobody schlub who was balding and looked older than he actually was. If you watch Die Hard today and think Willis looks like a cool action hero, it's primarily because of that subversive casting for that film that you do. He re-defined what an action hero looked like, especially given the times.

Hmm, I don't think he ever looked like a nobody. In fact, a lot of girls in school used to say Bruce Willis was hot, so yeahh.

My mom always thought he was fit too. I was thought he was ok, but defiantly not a nobody. jet presto idk what ur on about

Willis did look like a nobody in comparison to the unbelievably hypermasculine action heroes that were coming out around the time of Die Hard. That is not to say that he actually looked like a nobody, though. In the real world, he still looked bad-ass. He had legit dadbod, with a thick neck and noticeable muscle. Just because he wasn't as huge and cut as a bodybuilder doesn't mean that he looked like a schlub. The reason I think that he looked like a cool action hero is because he legitimately looked good as well as the good casting that led him to this part.

If that looks like a schlub to you, you got problems.

I'm saying that - by comparison of what was typical of the time - Willis was not your typical action hero protagonist in terms of body build. By comparison, he looks like a schlub for the reasons I mentioned (not super jacked, balding, looked a lot older than he was). He was mostly known as a television actor, not a movie star. We weren't seeing action stars of particularly various body types, but Willis emerged on the scene looking more normal, which by Hollywood standards of the time, were "schlub-like." I'm not saying that I personally think he looks like a schlub. (I personally don't care, and happen to prefer my movies get away from the absurd, unreasonable super-buff body type that is almost literally impossible for most people to achieve who don't get paid to work out and have personal chefs and nutritionists and trainters.)

Also released in 1988 were Above the Law with the already-weird-looking Steven Seagall, The Dead Pool with old cop Clint Eastwood, Braddock: Missing in Action III and Hero and the Terror with the perfectly generic-looking Chuck Norris, Police Story 2 and Dragons Forever with small Asian man Jackie Chan, plus an assortment of other now-forgotten action films starring various freaks like Willem Dafoe and Gary Busey.
