Not sure how many know him, but was once a fairly famous YouTube gaming star that posted reaction videos of gaming news (mainly Nintendo). He had over 260k subscribers at one point on youtube and 800k combined from youtube and twitch. But then one day last year, youtube deleted his account because uploaded pornography on YouTube (from a dare?). He made another account after, but things went downhill fast for him. He has been dealing with a lot of mental health issues and a few months ago he it escalated to live streaming a SWAT team coming to his house that someone called cause they thought he was suicidal. They ended up breaking in, and then arresting him. Shortly after that another incident occurred in which somebody recorded him assaulting a police officer. He gave signs for months that he was suicidal... And then last week he made an 8 minute long video implying he would commit suicide. Last time anyone heard anything from him was June 19, Wednesday. His cellphone, wallet, ID, and Switch was found on the Brooklyn bridge.. and Last night, NYPD identified his body in a nearby river.

RIP. His videos were entertaining and I think he was genuinely a great person. Social media/entertainment gets people, and it doesn't help when people have mental illnesses. That being said, you it's never too late to get help.

RIP Desmond Etika

I've been quietly keeping up with this situation. I knew about him from the handful of videos that he did with Achievement Hunter. Sad.

A copy of Etika's last video/suicide note:

I’m sorry for betraying all of your trust. I’m sorry for the manipulative things I’ve done, and I’m sorry I never sought help for myself.

I’ve made my bed, and now I’ve got to sleep in it. Please learn from my example. Don’t be like me. Don’t push away the people that care about you.

I’ve always lived my life as a [clown emoji, so I guess that’s all my “legacy” will amount up to. Don’t let this social media shit consume you the way it did me. I pushed away and hurt so many of you.

The good times however! MAN were they good. I’ve lived an incredible life filled with thrills and happiness. Even though I always was an odd ball out, I used that as my strength and brought together an incredible community of insane wild bois just like me. God I’ll miss you all so much.

I was mentally troubled, and far to stoneheaded to admit it, far too stubborn to face it, and far too scared now to deal with it.

God… I’m so sorry I hurt you all so badly. I’m so sorry I betrayed you all. I mislead so many of you, I manipulated, I lied, I shifted blame… I don’t know what awaits me on the other side, but I’m ready to face it.

As far as we know, there is no life after death. My time ends now, but if there is a way for me too, I’ll send you all as many blessings as I can from the other side.

Thank you all for helping to making my life the incredible tale it was. I’m sorry it had to end on such a heartbreaking note. Though I know for SURE hella people are gonna prolly laugh at it LOL I just hope there’s at least some fresh me-me’s that come of it. I’m dying as a guy hated by a lot of people, so I know you all won’t let me down haha.

Well, that’s my cue. Time for me to go. I mean this with every bit of my heart…

I knew of him through CND, but even then I don't really watch CND's content anymore. Etika was a funny guy for sure. This is why I'm really hesitant about publishing novels and all that, even though I love to write. With all that anxiety coming from people's negative comments and whatnot could really destroy you.

He was a divisive figure in the Fire Emblem community, in that he was a successful youtuber that cultivated a particular type of audience (i.e. generally younger than I am) and that just so happened to cover a lot of anime stuff up to and including latter day Fire Emblem. He was prominent enough to have brought a lot of people to the series through his work, and from my perspective that is something to appreciate.

I watched a few of his things and thought he was way too over the top in some "reaction" videos. Honestly though I wouldn't ever wish that he passed. It's really sad. If he made at least one person happy then I can't take that away. R.I.P.

One thing I do find weird is that even in his last video he said he hopes he gets some "fresh memes" out of it. He has gotten some but some people are mad at the others even when that's some of his last wishes. Not sure how to feel about it.
