The Dexit controversy continues!

Arch I've heard all of the first 151 Pokemon will be included in the game. For me personally I'm hoping all of the first 251 Pokemon will be included in the game at least. After all Gold, Silver, Crystal were Pokemon's Golden years.

These are all the Pokemon confirmed to be in the game so far:

What Pokemon are you hoping to be included in the game?

They have done something like this before though..... Pokemon Snap the first 3D Pokemon exploration game, there were only 63 Pokemon.

Welsh, that was a very different type of pokemon game though. It's not like you went on a journey with a team of pokemon

-Riku- Look at Pokémon Colosseum then. There are only 48 Pokemon in that game. And in that game you go on a journey with a team of Pokemon.

Clearly we can give spin-offs some leeway. The mainline games can be compared like for like.

We can assume that a healthy share of the Galar Dex is going to be Gen 1 favourites. I doubt they'll include all of the first 251, given the regional dex has to have a good share of new Pokés alongside other gens.

I shall certainly be holding on in terms of considering purchasing a copy of SwSh. This certainly isn't dispelling my overarching concern that mainline Pokémon games have been on a slow downward trajectory in terms of quality and depth since X and Y.

Actually in Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, you couldn't catch all the Pokemon in existence.

The native Hoenn Pokédex in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire & Emerald features 202 Pokémon, 135 of which are new. It puts the Hoenn starters at the beginning and groups evolutions from different generations together.

Mewtwo isn't even in those games. And those are generation 3 games. Looks like you can only catch some of them in those games too.

Catch being the operative word. One way or another, even if it was through some one-time Nintendo event or gameshark cheats, they were all obtainable. And regardless of whether or not it is reasonable to have expected someone to attend the event to obtain Celebi, the point is that the third gen games had the data for it. They set the ever-evolving standard by which subsequent games are naturally going to be held. The support for prior generations has become more sophisticated and easier to use over time, up to and including the paid service of the Pokemon Box. All of which is being walked back.

Nintendo should make the game that they want to make, but I am still out.

I know it won't happen, but maybe fans should consider not buying a game that is essentially identical to all previous games, except this time worse. Vote with your wallet.

We have, and while I've expressed my concerns over the lack of variation between the main games of each subsequent release, there has still been everything else that continues to make modern Pokemon unique and compelling. It is for these things that fans are willing to perform the ritual of the stock Pokemon adventure over and over again. Remove these things, as they have promised to do, and I think you will awaken the self interested consumer in many long time fans.

Of course, we're talking about the "long time fans" of a series that is meant for kids. RPG enthusiasts of the day used to sniff at Pokemon for being more basic than the Final Fantasies and Xenosagas that they were contemporaneously enjoying, and, well, they're dumb and mostly wrong, but there is a grain of truth in the idea that the secret of Pokemon's success was its accessibility. Whatever Pokemon needs to be a better game, it isn't to be scaled back and dumbed down. Pare it back too much and you'll reveal bones. Perhaps Nintendo is correct and this is what needs to happen to capture the imagination of modern ten year olds, but as a former ten year old that thought Pokemon was the best thing ever while in 1.9 x 1.7 inch, four color Gameboy Pocket grayscale, with occasionally questionable sprite art and a 20 item inventory, I think that they underestimate even their intended audience. As for the manchildren like myself that still care very much about this series, there remains the question of what it is that's left in it for us if the experience is going to be even less sophisticated than it was.

Being able to "catch 'em all" is the main conceit of the series. Pokemon fans have never, as far as I've been able to witness, reacted with this much venom over anything before. They actually seem like an amiable enough fan community, as these things go. The subreddit has been joking that Masuda is Thanos. "The hardest choices require the strongest wills."
