Anyone getting it? I am. I've always played the games in handheld mode. I'm tight on money atm so I probably won't play as much. I'm looking forward to that Pokemon game, I guess.

I like the colors. But knowing that there will be a Pro version coming down the pipeline keeps me from purchasing any current iteration of the Switch. I prefer the option of being able to play my games on the go and on a huge tv.

the $200 price tag is a little steep for me. I believe I purchased my old switch with a game for $220 during a holiday sell. I also read that you cant control brightness settings. Unless that is a misstranslation.

This version of the switch would sell like hot cakes if they released a Pokemon Sword/ Shield Bundle.

While I understand they are going for a strictly handheld version of the device would it have killed them to have Mini HDMI out port? I believe the PSP let you do something like this.

It was stated in the video that you can use joycons with this device. So why not plug in a hdmi cord, put it on your table and play directly from your tv using joy cons?

They have a Pokemon limited edition version. But, no games with it. At least they're adding the charger plug in for it. Lol

Yeah, being able to play in direct sunlight is big for me if I my parents and I ever go on roadtrips. That includes reading the kindle in bright sunlight too.

My hands are small so I'm hoping they grip around the console better without bad cramps. I'm also hoping gamestop will have a demo.

I agree.

That was my issue with the PS Vita. It will be interesting to see comparisons of both. The more I see this version of the switch the more I actually like it. I wont be around for its initial launch but I am planning to travel after my PC service. I think I might pick a version of this later on.

Another issue is Nintendo is horrible when it comes to online systems and gaming accounts. If one stays strictly digital on this device will they be able to access their games if they buy a normal or pro version later on? Can they play both and do cross play/ cross saves?

Hello Mario? HELLLOOOOOOOOO?

Is there? Or is that just a big rumor that goes around since all the other consoles eventually have a similar thing? (PS4 Pro and XB1X)

Same, thus I won't be getting it but I'm glad some people have the option.

That really bites about the brightness. I feel like losing $50 isn't worth it to not be able to plug into the TV, have hard-wired Joycons, no HD Rumble, etc.

I feel like this couldn't play Super Mario Party unless you had other controllers to connect to the switch.

After watching the little video today when I went to pick up my Switch to put in its case it ended up feeling...heavy to me, lol.

Haha, yeah their features kind of suck. The new Rewind feature feels like cheating to me, but in a way I kinda like it.

Sorry I'm on mobile. My dog doesn't like it when I'm in the basement so I can't be on my PC.:/ I want to get rid of my bookcase and chair for a desk. Big mistake there.

Not to put SOH off from his plan, as there will probably eventually be some kind of sequel to the Switch that'll almost assuredly keep the mobile/home hybrid design as that's the direction Nintendo have been on ever since the WiiU, but otherwise I've not seen any credible rumours of a "Switch Pro". There were a few very very loose rumours months back, but nothing since. Nintendo do sometimes do a "better" version of their handheld consoles, so they may well do the same with Switch but it feels unlikely as the Switch feells ike it's in a sweet spot for performance and the target audience with this console isn't those who want the best of the best.

The cheaper/smaller Switch has had rumours and actual leaks (like the officially licenced case that accdientally got put up for sale early) for quite some time so it was always much more credible of a rumour.

Not sure on the pricing as I can't find an official source for UK pricing but if the difference is similar in the UK then seems like it wouldn't be worth going for one (not that it matters to me, I already have my Switch).

Feature differences:
Handheld Mode Only (No TV, or Tabletop Modes)
Only supports games that are playable in Handheld Mode
No HD Rumble or IR Motion Camera (can't say I would care about that anyway)
5.5inch Screen (vs 6.2 on Switch)

Feels like they could've knocked more off the US price for what they took out of it.

I disagree. I do believe we will have a "Home Only Switch" that will be on par with the Xbox one X (holy crap what a crappy name) and or the PS4 Pro. It will be catered to a very Niche crowd.

I very much doubt this. Nintendo have never done anything like that before and they've not really shown a change in opinion on that stance.

33% more battery life with a 18% smaller battery, and it's roughly 20% smaller than the switch overall. I wish they trimmed the bezels, cause they could have made the screen 6 inches if they did. It's confirmed to be using a new processor also. Likely from 20nm to 16nm/12nm now, but a die shrink version of the TX1 from the original Switch

It's important to note also that hd rumble and the ir camera(pretty much useless anyway) isn't on the switch lite. I do wonder if it has normal rumble. Hmm

My biggest wonder is if it will be able to play in OG docked specs for better performance. Because if it doesn't, I see no reason to buy this if you already own the OG switch. Would be a huge disappointment if you can't. Not expecting it though.

And yeah there are credible sources (Wall Street journal, Nikkei, Eurogamer) that claim they have insider information mentioning that there is a switch "pro" on the way. Possibly this year. WSJ wrote an article today mentioning the switch pro and that it's still coming, but won't be as powerful as xbone x or PS4 pro (go figure). I rest hope Switch Pro is as powerful as xbone base at least.

And it was an accessory, not an entirely new console. That was also over 20 years ago.

The Switch Lite always made sense, and I don't doubt it'll sell well. My girlfriend has been borrowing my Switch a fair bit recently, so I think this could appeal to her (seeing as how she only plays undocked). Would be her first ever console too, which is pretty cool.

Yea but only for a few select games and that was in a day and age where they really had to optimise their games to fit the limits of the hardware. A few games I guess we're just too ambitious to fit the limits so they came up with that add-on.

I don't really feel like this is an issue these days. Yea games get a downgrade for the Switch but not to an extent that their target audience cares. Games still look beautiful and still play well.

They have sometimes released a better version of a handheld console (eg, New 3DS) but never a significant a boost as the one you're hoping for.

Nintendo seem to be more about "what can we make the console do" rather than "how powerful can we make the console". We've seen it with the 3DS, Wii, Wii U and now the Switch.

My biggest wonder is if it will be able to play in OG docked specs for better performance. Because if it doesn't, I see no reason to buy this if you already own the OG switch. Would be a huge disappointment if you can't. Not expecting it though.

I doubt it. The whole point is it's a smaller handheld only Switch. It's supposed to be for those who don't want the extra power that plugging in to the dock/TV gives you. I think they've mispriced it and sales mighy be affected as a result.

It's also not intended for someone who owns a Switch to go and buy one of these. It's aimed at new customers who wanted a cheaper Switch.

Not sure why it matters that it was 20nyears ago. They released a beefier handheld for the 3ds line too. The switch lite keeps things strictly portable. It goes against the hybrid concept. I dont think it's too for farfetched for them to pump out a more powerful home only version.

Because of exactly what I said if you bothered to read my reply... It's pretty well documented by developers at this point that they were far more limited on the older consoles compared to what they are today. These days they tend to drop features/content because of time constraits whereas back then they also had to because of hardware limitations.

I just don't feel the core Nintendo gamers care all that much about the "lack" of power in the Switch because, these days the lack of power tends to amount to "less shiny graphics" in a day and age where even the Switch's reduced graphics still look beautiful. If you're buying a Switch you are already accepting that you aren't going to get the best of the best in that category. I've also never known Nintendo to cater towards niche markets in the same way the XboneX or the PS4 Pro did.

I actually already pointed this out and in all honestly no one was really sure what the point of it was. It felt like it was supposed to be the sucessor but then it never really took off and they kinda just forgot they even had it... Or at least that was how it felt.

The switch lite keeps things strictly portable. It goes against the hybrid concept. I dont think it's too for farfetched for them to pump out a more powerful home only version.

It's not farfetched for us to see a "better" Switch at some point, but it is farfetched to think it will be on par with the XboneX or PS4 Pro.

I also don't really see the point of a home console only Switch. Poor marketting aside, one of the big reasons the WiiU didn't do so well is because it was just a typical home console with a weird controller. The Wii did well because it tapped in to the "casual" market and even got people who don't really play video games to buy it. The Switch has done well because of the fact it is a hybrid. The Switch lite is supposed to fill the gap they've left themselves in the handheld market whilst offering a chance to own a Switch at a reduced price.

If Nintendo did release a home console only Switch I would not expect it to do well.

If Nintendo do release a "Switch Pro" I would not expect it to be all that much more powerful or offer a sensible Switch owner much of a reason to upgrade.

I thought orions initial reply was yours lol. Sorry for missing the rest.

I've also never known Nintendo to cater towards niche markets in the same way the XboneX or the PS4 Pro did.

While true it is still a market they can cater to. It doesnt necessarily have to be as powerful as those to but something that can output games in 4k would spark some interest. A Home version wouldnt be used to cater to to those who own a Switch or Switch lite.

I think if they did a switch home they could retap into this market. Release it with another Wii Sports Bundle throw in in some updated Wii/Switch nunchunks, include access to streaming apps (netflix, prime, hulu etc) throw in some 4K output and some remote play capabilities and go to town.

Nintendo has the habit of using out dated tech. Surely technology somewhere between the PS4 and PS4 Pro will be affordable enough to use in a year or two for something like this.

If Nintendo do release a "Switch Pro" I would not expect it to be all that much more powerful or offer a sensible Switch owner much of a reason to upgrade.

I dont think a pro (or the lite) for that matter are for current switch owners. I think they want to have different starting points/ prices of play for people to enjoy the console and games.

Switch Lite: Entry Level system/ geared for kids much more affordable

OG Switch: for those who want the best of both worlds

Switch Pro/ Home: For those who want something more powerful with better battery life, screen, and options for 4K output. (The home version being all of this but as a traditional console of sorts)

I dont expect them to make as much money with the latter but it will reinforce their goals of having every one buy and own some iteration of the switch.

Am I a fool for believing this is their plan? Maybe. But I much prefer the term visionary.

Nintendo releasing a “home version” of switch is a pipe dream if u ask me. It would be so uncharacteristic of them

I changed my mind and will wait for the "pro" version next year. The small screen is going to hurt my eyes after awhile.
