Since there don't seem to be any other takers, I'll be hosting the next adventure game. My intent with it is to make the game Shadowwalked wanted to make originally; a mafia-inspired sci-fi adventure. It will mark the third iteration of the Aliens game that started it all.
If you're unfamiliar with Aliens, here's how it works:
Wander around the rooms and/or the planet
Kill the aliens or humans
Probably destroy the space station along the way.
I've introduced some new mechanics, which are about 90% planned/mapped out.
Here's how it works if you're an alien
You start out in human form. There's an alien thread where you can conspire with the other aliens and evolve one trait for yourself per turn (doesn't consume a move).
As a human, you can't use any of your alien superpowers. But the humans don't know that you're an alien either. You must kill them with more.. crafty.. means.
You can choose to turn into an alien at any time, however once you become an alien any time you're visible in a room the players will know you're an alien, and you also lose any of your human abilities (not like you can't simply evolve them, but still!). Once you go alien, there's no going back.
So yeah you might want to just stay in the station and pick off players craftily. However, there's a problem with that...
The source of the alien power in the game is the Hive, a giant blob of alien matter on the planet. In order to win as the humans, you must destroy both the aliens and the hive.
In the Hive's presence, aliens can use their abilities while retaining their human form. So it may be wise to kill the aliens first.
However, if you do kill the Hive before you kill the aliens, they all stop being human and their telepathic link disappears. Worth considering, for sure...
The Hive takes 3 attacks to kill... so three rounds of normal attacks, or three players attacking, or one well-placed nuke.. Better keep going though, it may know how to regenerate.
Humans are clueless yet nimble
When you start the game, you'll be unable to remember anything because of [STORY TO BE TOLD]. You'll also suck at pretty much everything. In order to progress through the game, you hook yourself up to a machine that helps you learn.
I've mapped out the abilities (fully!) but not necessarily the mechanics. The basic idea though is that you get to choose your role(s) in the game. Getting the space station operational again will probably require teamwork if you want it to go smoothly, although you can still totally lone wolf it.
In total there are (10) Abilities.
Scattered through the wrecked space station are machines that once worked but are now missing parts. These parts are scattered throughout the space station. These machines will do specialized things that act sort of like the special roles in mafia.
In total there are (9) machines, fully mapped out.
In the interests of making this game more realistic, no RNG's will be used. If you shoot an entire room with your flamethrower, expect everything to get burned (including you if you stand too close). If you barricade a door while someone else blows it up from the other side, expect your barricades to hit you in the head.
Much like real life, wounds will impair you.. maybe your right arm is gone and you're a rightie so you can't shoot as straight. Maybe you've got a knife wound and so REALLY CAN'T DO COMPLEX ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING RIGHT NOW. Or you're too busy willing your slashed legs to move at a normal speed that you miss the slobbering alien right beside you.
Also much like real life, it's really really difficult to kill someone outright. Don't think you can stab the human with your spear-spike in the back and him not wake up after a turn. If you shoot someone in the face, maybe you just hit their cheek and they're horribly disfigured but out for vengeance. Be thorough! Remember to double tap!
Aliens are more fragile.. but they shrug off wounds and adapt at frightening speeds so it's worth it.
I'm still in the planning phase of the map.. the main difference here is that the space station will connect to itself more in a grid layout than a tree layout. You should have multiple exits from almost any room (which may be locked).
The game will update every other day.. no mid-round updates. Probably around 8pm.
