It says "by 1/16/18". Which is 2 months from now.

Right. That's not the problem. The problem is, my dear girlfriend has pretty much the same speed as I, yet they've been sending all these notices that i'm not getting the most out of my connection. Clearly, this is a lie, as only the ping is significantly different (not sure why speedtest.net choose to send us to different default servers when we're within this same damn tiny town). I wouldn't be bothered if it wasn't for a few really annoying facts about the new modem that are not the case with the current modem that I have:

1. They've been lying to me the whole time about the benefits of using the newer equipment.

2. They've been trying to get me to shut down my teamspeak, SMTP, and HTTP servers.

3. Port scans on people with the new routers do not come back clean, even though the customers aren't opening ports (most notably, there's a remote access protocol port open, which is probably for support, but I don't see a way to turn it off).

4. I doubt i'll have the same level of control over the wireless router part that I have over my current router (which is separate of the modem).

5. I'm not sure there's a "DMZ" option on it or not.

Hopefully 4 can be dealt with by turning it off, 3 could potentially be dealt with by hooking my router straight into it. 2, hopefully, won't be a problem, but I have had long standing issues over this with this company. 1, can't fix. Unless they're going to actually speed up the local bandwidth, which I highly doubt. And 5 I just gotta hope and pray for. If not, i'm probably going to have a long battle with the port forwarding bit.

In what way?

Also that letter is nonsense. It's assuming you're not savvy enough to know what networking equipment does, and most who get Internet don't.

Temporarily blocking ports. SMTP is still blocked, but that alternate smtp port for encrypted connections is not.

Given account info is tied to it, they can simply make it true, as opposed to letting it continue not to be true. And i'm not comfortable with this back door i've seen.
