Real Life

Anything that goes on in your life can go here.

Just in case anyone's interested. Also it might explain why I haven't been here much.

  • I've been working split shifts all this week. 7am-11am, followed by 5pm-11pm. Both of the janitors quit around the same time so I've been covering in their place. Needless to say, my sleep and eating schedules have been pretty fucked because of this. I'm glad for the extra hours though.

  • This Friday I get my second check. I've been trying to ration my first check so I'll have enough money with it to get my car ready, but it's been difficult because my food stamps are in limbo and a little banking snafu prevented a little bit of GTX0 money from coming in too. Everything should come together by the end of the month, but the check hits first.

  • So the car. I've been car-less and up until recently living pretty far away from civilization which has made getting a job downright impossible. More recently I'm 2 miles away from a big complex of retail/fast food/etc places so I got a job in there and have been getting rides (but aren't reliant on them). It's super part time but I've been doing whatever it takes to stay late, work extra days, or otherwise get more hours.

If I had to save up for a used car I'd definitely try to get a second job but theres actually one that my dad has that just needs to be tagged and insured. I wanted to get this done with my first check, but because of the food stamps limbo and the site money issue and the lack of hours I wouldn't be able to have a car and also eat. So hopefully this second check will fix this, and if not everything else should hit by the end of the month.

Once I have a car again I'm going to be pretty busy during my off time trying to get some kind of job in my field so again you won't see me much. I've got a really solid strategy for that, so don't worry. It'll take a lot of work to pull off though.

  • Probably because of the job (physical job after all) I finally broke a 9-month weight loss stall. I've lost fat and like two shirt sizes during that time, but the weight got stuck between 217-225lb. But as of a couple weeks ago I broke down below that, and I'm now 214.4lb and dropping about a pound per week. 210 is the point at which I reach the upper bound for "not overweight", so this is exciting stuff.

  • I've stuck with the diet and the IF for the most part. If I'm not working these split shifts, I eat twice in a 6-hour window on wither side of my job. On off-days I've been doing like 23/1 IF. If I'm working the split shifts, I eat four times but most of them are snacks.

  • I make sure to eat reeeeeeeaallly strict keto before I go to work. Usually I go through my glucose stores in about an hour and my focus and energy levels skyrocket. When I come home, I'm less strict and have eaten like 120g of carbs at a time sometimes.

  • Lots of food cravings have been happening, which I've fixed with some occasional evening carbs and also I've been drinking a ton of whole milk because I'm literally craving the stuff (also best source of magnesium without too many carbs).

What scares me is that this sounds like par for the course. What do you do?

Looks like you have your priorities straight and have a good focus on what you need to do. I hope the money situation gets resolved and you are able to get your dad's old car tagged and insured without any problems. And congrats on losing weight, 214 is a respectable weight so that's nothing to scoff at. Keep up the hard work Xhin, we all appreciate you.

You're not wrong. At least there's no actual stress this time though.

    What do you do?

Take a break from anything nonessential (like gtx0), be more lax with dieting (not that this diet is particularly hard; I'm about to go make crustless pizza for the 5th time this week), and mostly just keep working.

I meant as an occupation. I see you talking about janitorial work, but that doesn't clarify if that's your actual work or if you're filling in because of the shortage.

Right now I work in the back of a high-end retail store, unloading and processing shipments. The janitor thing is because both housekeepers (janitors) quit so my boss has been filling people in for them if they want the extra hours (I totally do!).

My regular job is pretty much continuous fast physical work for six hours straight.

See, that sounds like a half decently fun job, once you're no longer getting sore. Why're the janitors quitting?

Um, *212.8lb. Also did I mention that I have a six-pack for literally the first time in my life? Good stuff.

That doesn't say anything about your lower back and whether you get shooting pain in your bottom.

I got a bad pain in my leg/knee for 4 days the first time I did the split-shifts but I'm fine this time. Usually if anything hurts, it's my upper back instead of my lower back. Though even that fades down over time.

The pain you're describing sounds like sciatica. If it gets bad enough it's literally crippling so I'd do something about it.

Just making sure. Sciatica is entirely preventable for most cases. By the time you start suffering from it, you've already screwed up bad.

Topical cayenne works really well with sciatica, and muscle/joint/nerve pains in general.

Pain relief isn't treating the cause, though. And if peppers work, so does menthol. Either way, the source must be treated first, otherwise it'll just get worse on it's own: one must learn how to hip hinge instead of back bending.

It totally does though. If it's nerve-based, it shocks the nerves back to normal. If it's muscle/joint related, it boosts bloodflow to the affected area. If it's circulatory, it dilates the blood vessels pretty much permanently. Same deal if it's a blood clot, an artery issue, vein issue, blocked capillaries or pretty much anything related to the circulatory system.

This is pretty much true for any spice or pungent herb (like peppermint), but hot peppers in general and cayenne in particular are especially good for it.

Mint and coriander are kinda weird -- they have some stimulating properties and some soothing properties when used topically. Menthol does do to the lungs what cayenne does to the circulatory and nervous systems though.

Yeah, but those issues that it solves are usually caused by a mechanical issue, which the pepper does not solve. The nerves and blood vessels will get pinched if initial cause is muscle (which leads to →) or bone.
