Best way to get into Statistics and Statistics programs?
Posted: Posted October 16th, 2017 by Agis

The situation: always been terrible at and repulsed by math. Last course I took was a heavily dumbed down Advanced Algebra and Trigonometry course in 2010 that I remember struggling with a lot.

Currently in a graduate program where the first year I can take courses in Chinese language, but topics including politics, law, environment, and Econ. I want to some day, if not next year Fall start on the one year masters program in DC. But, that is heavily economics and quantitative focused.

Also, I hope to work in the areas of business analysis, political risk analysis, and other such related topics. What I think would be really helpful would be to take some cheap online courses to teach me a familiarity or proficiency with things like Stata, R, etc.

My question: in light of this situation, what would be the best path forward in order to be able to take, grasp, and pass a Statistics course and/or learn these above mentioned softwares?

Would taking an algebra course first be necessary in order to better grasp Statistics? Can I learn Statistics reasonably well by the software alone, or only after or in conjunction with a legit Statistics course?

College Algebra is usually the prerequisite to getting into a General Statistics course. Though, I found it was much more important to understand concepts when I got more into Research and Research design.
