Why do we divide the day into parts?
Posted: Posted September 29th by Brandy

Neil Degrass-Tyson said this, he actually had in interesting point. Like, why do we have 8 hour shifts? Is it for 8 hours of work, 8 hours of lesiusre, and 8 hours of sleep? Do you like 8 hour shifts, or should we have 4 hour shifts over a period of 6 days instead of 5? i personally would reather have 6 4 hour shift days, i personally feel so beat after 8 hour shifts, i literally take a nap after work and am not even old.

Why is it that my 8 hours gets interrupted by travel time to and from work, but the 8 hours at work runs the whole way through.

That 24 hours in your workweek. The 8x5 thing gives you a 40-hour workweek.

This might sound harsh, but I'm not trying to be. You might not be aware of this, but whatever your company is doing doesn't have anything to do with you. When you work for a company, you're not trading work-hours for money, you're filling some role where the company needs a human in at specific times or the entire system fails to work correctly. Even if you're late it can totally fuck up the entire day of production.

Some roles however give you a lot more leeway with *when* you want to work or for how long, so long as you meet long-term deadlines or quotas. The more your job is reliant on a bunch of other people though, the more fixed your schedule is going to be.

your right that is 24 hours, slip of the mind. yes i guess that is the unforuntate predicament im in working with other people but it is nice to think maybe we can change the whole work schedule nation-wide, so we can have at least work-life balance, i personally believe thats the reason suicide rates are rising.

Maybe a bigger issue are worker wages compared to executive wages. I doubt youd be complaining as much if you were making like 60k/year.
