Halo

We can still destroy the enemy core!
Today is the 10-Year Anniversary of Halo 3

How did you enjoy this game's release in 2007?

Halo 3 is actually kind of a sad story for me. Shortly before its release, the lone high-speed internet tower in my small town was destroyed by a storm. They replaced it with a much weaker tower, which made online play awful. I could get into matches, but the lag was unbearable. I played campaign with my sister, but I never got to experience much of the magic in online play. Regardless, I can remember the hype levels around its release being like no other. It was on the news, gaming media was all over it (before they were obviously political), and friends at school were even talking about it. It had a terrific marketing campaign.

If you get a chance, hop on for some Halo 3 today. Relive the nostalgia in glorious 30fps / 720p!

Also Halo 5 will have a throwback Halo 3 playlist with classic settings (no spartan abilities) and I'm assuming Halo 3 forge maps in rotation.

The trailer that got me to buy an Xbox 360.

I can play today.

I'll try to hop on tonight before bed, but likely won't have time for more than a few matches. Hopefully the DLC issue is resolved.

Halo 3 came out about 2 weeks after I completed basic training, and was in Advanced Training so I couldn't pick it up or play it. My mom actually picked it up for me from GameStop (back when I preordered stuff). It was the Legendary Edition so I got the Masterchief helmet that held the game and it's special edition DVD. I didn't get to play the game until I can home on Christmas break in late December. I took my Xbox360 and the game with me back to training where a bunch of us in the barracks hooked up a bunch of switches and had LAN matches. So much fun, I kind of miss those days.

btw - one of the few people I remember from the Halo community in Mike's GT is Neczy. I remember briefly taking part in a Halo 2 custom game with him and some others from the GT community on Lockout (a strangely specific memory). Has anyone had any contact with him since Mike's GT went down?

There was another name that I cannot recall along with Neczy. Quick search brought up Erik but I think he went by a different name prior to that.

@Q:

Do you still have the helmet that came with it and the other stuff?

Interesting quote from the waypoint update today:

It's been a great partnership but the back-compat team isn't quite done yet - in honor of Halo 3's 10th birthday we've been working closely with them on some additional awesome things for Halo 3. We can't spill the beans just yet, but stay tuned for more info soon.

Would be great if they could somehow update the game to 1080p 60fps but I highly doubt that. Still interesting.

Anyone know if the maps are downloadable in regular halo 5?

What do you mean downloadable? To be used in customs?

I have no idea how it works. But could I invite you to a game in a halo 3 map on 5?

Have you tried going into the Custom games mode and looking for the maps? I'm not sure if it's in there or not. I did play the Halo 3 Anniversary playlist and proceeded to get my ass handed to me. I didn't realize how much I rely on the thruster dash until it was taken away. Same with sprinting and clambering. And is it just me or does it take way longer for your shields to regenerate than it did in the original Halo 3? I'm going to have to go back and play it to see.

It does seem to take way longer, and it seems like you get sniped 20x as much too. And it's always a head shot. lol

Well yeah either through the social playlist or a custom game. To get the maps for customs, the easiest way is to bookmark the map from halowaypoint.

Most of the Halo 3 maps can be found here under the creator Foge:
    https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/games/halo-5-guardians/xbox-one/map-variants?lastModifiedFilter=Everything&sortOrder=BookmarkCount&page=1
Some are under different creators. Links to each map is in the halowaypoint update:

So I just played a game of Halo 3 multiplayer and the frame rate seems super choppy. More so than I remember on the xbox360. Did you guys notice this too or is it just me!

No frame rate issues for me. I was a bit surprised at how bad the resolution is compared to games today.
