I'll start.

1. What does your username mean?

Xhin is a respelling of Zen. It doesn't mean anything in particular, I just liked the way it looked.

2. How do you pronounce it?

Zin. Worth pointing out that where I live, -en and -in are both pronounced -in, so I've always pronounced Zen as Zin.

3. Why did you choose it?

I thought buddhism was really cool at the time and wanted a vaguely buddhist-referential name. Also this name happened during a time where I changed my name every other month. I'm not sure why I stuck with this one.

My name doesn't have a meaning.

There was a person at my school that went by Vandy. I always thought it was a cool name. Then I realized that I could have it in a way and so changed my online alias. At the time I was also between names and wanted my name to start with the letter V. Before this I had briefly changed to Vulpine since Fox was my favorite character in Smash Bros. I also considered Vaati, the Zelda villain.

1. What does your username mean?

Helios. God of the Sun. I would have went with Helios, but at the time... it was taken so I went with the closest one I could... Helius.

2. How do you pronounce it?

He-lee-us

And the third question was answered by the first.

i was originally "the prince of pain," which was duriel's title in diablo 2 (although i think it was patched to something else later on). when i would troll the life forum, qwey would call me all sorts of "pop" puns, and after i decided to stop being a little asshole, i changed it to my favorite one to get rid of the baggage and bad reputation that i'd built up with my original name (and by that point "prince of pain" seemed like an edgelord loser name)

First I was "Kyogre Master 8" (I was 10 years old on the Pokemon Sapphire forum; Kyogre was my favorite Pokémon and 8 was my favorite number, I guess).

Then I was KM8 (I matured enough to realize my original name was awful). For a while I went as KM8 because I wanted old friends to be able to recognize me (but I knew it was bad).

I switched to Cetasaurus recently because it sorta means "Kyogre." ("Ceta" is Greek for "whale/legendary sea monster," and "-saurus" is a Latin suffix for "extinct giant creatures?")

I think it's technically pronounced "see-tuh-saurus," but whenever I read it, I find myself pronouncing it "say-tuh-saurus."

1. What does your username mean?

It refers to a Chomp on a chain. Chomps are vicious, territorial doggos so restraining them is a good idea, especially if you're a plumber.

2. How do you pronounce it?

Chain Chomp

3. Why did you choose it?

Being my first GT handle, it only felt natural to go back to. As to why I picked it I can't say, but I am a big Mario universe fan.

@Chain Chomp:

  • What game were chain chomps originally from? Mario 64 is the earliest mario I remember them from but they were in the Link's awakening zelda which preceded it..

  • How is a chain chomp a dog? It's just a big sphere with teeth.

Chain Chomps first appeared in world 2 of SMB3.

How is a chain chomp a dog? It's just a big sphere with teeth.

They bark too. The story goes that when Miyamoto was a child, he wandered off into a neighbor's yard and got rushed by a dog, only to be saved by a chain attached to a stake binding said dog. It must have been a poignant enough memory for Miyamoto to create a character based on the experience all those years later.

I think they first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3

They definitely had a 2D appearance before showing up in Mario 64.

    Alternatively, I'm a Russian farmer.

    2. How do you pronounce it?

Fam as in family, ov as in molotov.

    3. Why did you choose it?

I didn't know what I wanted to call myself, but I knew certain characteristics I wanted it to have. A username is a name, and so it must be capitalized. Obviously. And I knew I didn't want a tasteless collection of Xs and underscores in my name, as was popular at the time.

I had my own message board where I went by Scar, and later King Scar for a while. I got sick of Red Leaf, and every time I try to go back to the oi something weird happens with the name so fuck it.

    Pretty obvious how it's pronounced.

I chose it originally because Lion King is my favorite film from my childhood and GT is a place of nostalgia so it makes sense.

    What does your username mean?

It's a reference to a beanie-baby black Yoshi I had as a kid and then lost, and spent a decade searching for before giving up and buying an identical one on eBay.

    How do you pronounce it?

    Sound it out.

    Why did you choose it?

I was obsessed with figuring out what happened to my little black Yoshi, and couldn't think of any others. I've had people here mistakenly believe that the "Black" refers to my skin color; I must clarify that I am actually as white as a sheet.

it was high school and I needed a new name to use on GT so I just decided to combine two cool things into a cooler thing. This predated the "omg epic pirates vs ninjas" phase of the internet slightly. I no longer use it anywhere else, and at this point it's been around long enough that I keep it here for the hell of it.

I was in 8th grade in 2006 and my parents had bought some old gem of a desktop with 95 running on it. I say that because when I first found GT a few months later I didn't know what the fuck to name myself because the idea of a username and the internet as a whole was so foreign to me.

We had a calender beside the computer with an eagle on it and the name "eagle" was already taken so I made it "eagle0" because I thought 0 was a cool number.

I remember I went with #85 because I wanted to go with an anonymous type name, and you had to use a username. Randomly selected the number. This was in 2003 or 2004. I came for a game and quickly transfered to the World forum.

did you go by a different name at first?

and while the story behind EN the person is long and interesting, the story behind EN the name is neither.

freshman year of high school i started reading the horror stories of h.p. lovecraft. he's a writer from a long time ago, and a lot of the vocabulary in the stories i didn't know. so i started keeping a log of words i learned from his work: two being eidolon, a sort of ghost, and nepenthe, a sort of potion that brings about forgetfulness. i liked the idea of a ghost wanting to forget things, so put the two words together into the name eidolon's nepenthe. i don't remember why i chose that combination of words for a username on the original gt. at some point on gtx0 i shorted it to just EN, which i pronounce as just those two letters.

lol it might be kind of embarrassing but for you vandy anything the first thing that happened was ceta asked me to come to this site to write w him in RPG Chat and i think he was going as Kyogre Master 8 so i stole one of his character names for my username just to mess around w him but i actually ended up wanting to stay a part of the community so i decided i should probably give ceta his name back (like after a few yrs or something lol) so i had an intermediate name while i was looking for a new one. in ninth grade which was the time that this was happening (and i hadnt dropped out of school yet holy smokes how long have i been here?) i was really into rushdie (side note but i recently re-read something by him and was significantly less taken by his writing so disappointing!) and in midnight's children he describes some "susurrous snakes" and i thought "what does that word mean it sounds like a whisper" so i looked it up and it means "whispering" and i thought that was so cool ^.^ i also must have felt like i could identify w the word bc im not a v loud person lol

    1. "Spirit" comes from the "Spirit Bomb" in Dragon Ball Z and "Nova" comes from "Nova Force" in Digimon.

    2. You pronounce it exactly the way it looks.

    3. DBZ and Digimon were and still are two of my favorite franchises. GT was the first forum I actually participated in, and I needed a username. "Spirit Bomb" and "Nova Force" are both attacks where you hold a giant ball of energy over your head, and the combination of them sounded enough like a name I went with it. I've been using this username for just about everything I do online since then.
