Bought a couple of the Star City Games Gold 1k packs, plus a couple of 400-card boxes from a local shop. I have a deck in each color and I'm about to put together a colorless (artifact creature) deck.

So far, I like playing black the most. Of course, I was leaning that direction anyway because of the art style and lore, but the mechanics of black are right up my alley. It's nasty. I love destruction, lifelink, necromancy, all of it. It's a bunch of stuff that makes your opponent say "oh, god damn it". I like that reaction.

I want to eventually build an Eldrazi deck, but I need to play more to justify the expense of some of the rarer cards.

I am looking into getting a casual, modern, blue counter deck. I enjoy magic but my youth was dominated by yugioh so I only ever owned one deck.

blue counter deck

Wow, what an asshole

I have a blue deck but I haven't played it yet. I just don't like the way control plays - seems too tedious for me.

modern

Just want to go Modern for simplicity? I prefer Legacy/Vintage - I just want to see everything that the game has to offer. If it gets a little broken, that's just more entertainment for me. I wouldn't ever make a totally broken turn-one deck or recursive/infinite deck or any shit like that, though. That doesn't seem like fun.

It probably comes from playing yugioh since counter plays like trap cards. I had a merfolk deck and my buddy did some really cheesy broken things with his black korlash (sp?) deck. Plus he cheated so I was kinda put off playing old formats. XD

But I would give it a go with someone who doesn't cheat. He was running four of things that were at 1 and stuff like that. Is there a way to build and play decks on a computer?

I really have no idea why my phone does this. I never know if it'll be red leaf, mufasa or burrito. Must be confusing for anyone on here who doesn't know me. But I guess everyone does now. For better or worse.

Yes, but not well.

Magic: Duels of the Planeswalkers (current iteration known as "Magic Duels") is on Steam for free, but the only way to get cards is to buy digital booster packs that cost either a lot of time or the same amount of IRL money that you would spend on paper booster packs - and it's random because you can't buy individual cards (i.e. it's a cash-grab). Plus, that's not going to be updated anymore, since Wizards is working on their Next Big Thing.

Magic Online is the other option and has an online player marketplace where people can trade and buy/sell cards directly to each other. However, the interface is god-awful and nowhere near the level of polish or usability of Magic Duels.

In other words, just wait until Next Big Thing comes out and hope that WotC doesn't fuck it up.

Doesn't that take quite a bit of investment? The reason things are restricted in eternal formats is because they're stupid powerful - and stupid powerful cards tend to be stupid expensive.

My guess is yes his cards are expensive but he's had them forever so they may have appreciated most of their value after he got them.

I will look into the magic online sims.

Pretty standard control + flyers. No cycling/milling stuff because I don't particularly care for blue deck manipulation, just a bunch of standard countering/tapping with some cheap creatures to peck with.
