KH 0.2 A Fragmentary Passage thoughts and new KH 3 trailer
Posted: Posted July 15th by -Riku-

https://youtu.be/7M6fJbAFwx0 here's the latest trailer for kh3. While nothing is revealed in terms of the Xehanort story, it gives us some new stuff to gawk over. Toy Story is now confirmed and it looks great. I'm sure there were a bunch of new battle mechanics revealed, but it was all so flashy and fast I couldn't catch it all. It also looks like we'll be heading to Twilight Town, though we knew this from the e3 trailer. The biggest piece of info...COMING 2018! As far as I know this is the first t one we've gotten anything resembling a release date and I'm excited for it.
--------------------------------

Now onto 0.2 fragmentary passage. In all honesty, I don't understand WHY this was made as a game. Next to nothing happens until about the last third. Aqua teams up with Mickey and they eventually wind up on the broken island where you fight Ansem in kh1. She tells Mickey she'd been there before and how she met Riku and Sora. Mickey tells her they're the ones helping him close the door to darkness. Mickey gets finds the gold keyblade we see him use in kh2. They make it to the door, only for a bunch of heartless to show up to try and kill Riku from closing the door. Aqua chooses to stay behind to fight them off, the ending of kh1 happens, Aqua finds her resolve and eventually runs into Snark the Wise. It then ends with Riku and Mickey, this taking place after DDD, to set out and rescue her.

In all honesty I think Square should've just made the entirety of 2.8 final chapter prologue nothing but cinnemstics. While there were things to do in 0.2 the whole thing is only about 2 hours long, at least for me it was. I also wasn't a fan of the creature system in DDD and wished they had only released its cutscenes. It is good to know that 0.2 gave us a glimpse into how the kh3 battle system will be set up. Overall I'd say 0.2 has been the second least important game to be released in these HD collections. Also I suspect that there might be one last spin-off before we get kh3 due to the search for Aqua being a Riku/Mickey quest and Kairi training with Axel on how to be a keyblade wielder

I'm fine with 3D being a whole game, because while the story wasn't that good, it was pretty necessary, and the game is a LOT more fun to play than Days or Coded was, roughly on par with Birth By Sleep.

0.2 was originally intended to be the opening chapter of KH3, much like Roxas' segment was the opening chapter for KH2. As you said, it's a glimpse into the KH3 battle system. Not that necessary of a release, but as it was already finished, they figured to give us something to bide us over until KH3 comes out of development purgatory.

Also I suspect that there might be one last spin-off before we get kh3 due to the search for Aqua being a Riku/Mickey quest and Kairi training with Axel on how to be a keyblade wielder

That better be IN KH3 and not a spinoff. Nomura needs to cut it the hell out with his damn spinoffs and focus on the main story, especially if it's low-level crap like Days or Coded.

Mechanically and from a gameplay perspective, this tech demo (and that is precisely what it is) for KHIII was a nice surprise. The combat was fluid and more creative than the previous anime installments, particularly the magic. I LOVED the puzzle aspects (even if they were simple) and level design. It very strongly reminded me of the original game's level design and interaction, which is a massive step up from KHII's empty worlds with little to no interaction with the environment. I have been waiting for a return to level design on par with the original game since 2002.

The story is shit. The story has been shit since the release of every game after the original. What an unfocused mess of anime bullshit. *brrrrrrrruuuuuup!*

The overall story is a mess, yes, but I don't think that started until BBS. As for level designs, I actually prefer kh2's designs over kh1

It started with Days. They invented Xion, a completely worthless character, and made some lame excuses as to why no one remembers her. Birth By Sleep was pretty straightforward by comparison and much more important to the story. If they cut out Xion completely from all installments (though they inserted her into 3D sadly), you would have lost nothing by completely skipping Days.

KH2 designs aren't necessarily bad or any smaller than KH1. The problem was that they were so direct and easy to navigate, because there are essentially no puzzle-mazes in KH2, so the world felt that much smaller. You don't even need High Jump or Glide to access anything in KH2 whereas they are needed in KH1. When KH2 FM came out, it was a welcome addition in seeing the Cavern of Remembrance, because it had puzzles and the like, so that area felt rather huge.

I couldn't remember if Days came out before BBS, but yeah Xion was pretty pointless

She was nothing more than a plot-point to justify Days being a game. Her existence was not needed to justify Sora's slumber or Roxas' two keyblades; as it seemed fairly clear that Sora couldn't wake up because he didn't have Roxas in KH2, and the two keyblades comes from Roxas' own power along with Ventus'. Plus getting the power of an extra keyblade from someone who's just a Sora copy is meta anyway.
