This is, as yet, unconfirmed. But Russia would be unlikely to make such an announcement unless it had confidence in its reports.

Let's hope it's true, and if it is: good riddance, you piece of shit.

I only hope there's a hell for you to burn in. :-)

Heaven and hell are but whispers of the human imagination.

But I'm glad this guy is dead.

He's just going to get replaced

Rather a shame on occasions like this though.

rumors of his death have been greatly exaggerated in the past, but it would be big news if it was real this time

We get news of some terrorist leader killed in an airstrike like every 3-6 months. Nothing will change. Just someone as bad as them will replace them like nothing happened.

Don't gloat so much over a dead terrorist. It's uncivilized.

ShadowFox: It's necessary though, IS won't be defeated unless we kill or capture him.

I've also read that he had the right blood lineage that gave him the legitimacy to be the leader of an Islamic caliphate, so he may not be so easily replaced.

Either way, succession of leadership can be a difficult and destabilizing process.

You can't kill them all. Terrorism is what needs to die. Wasting time on the individuals will not help the whole.

What up, 1-up

The US is doing enough collateral damage just to take out terrorists that I see it never ending in the middle east. And the problem with ISIS unlike Al Qaeda, is that they can be found everywhere in the middle east/south Asia too. I don't know what can effectively reduce terrorist attacks by ISIS at this point.

That's not really true.

Al Qaeda is still a threat everywhere around the world. ISIS is different in that it derives its legitimacy from having territory and governing it as an Islamic State. True it recruits from Muslims from throughout the world, but those recruits will have less reason to fight for the state if there's nothing left.

In a way I think ISIS is more like the Taliban, which grew out of the brutal Russian occupation of Afghanistan.
