Microsoft E3 Conference

A thread for Microsoft's conference. Will you be buying an Xbox One X XL New S X?

Pretty forgettable conference, I thought. Still don't care about the new console; I've had no reason to touch my Xbox One in years, and I'd rather just stick to my PC when it comes to "powerful" gaming experiences.

A sequel to Ori & the Blind Forest was totally unexpected, but without a doubt my highlight of the show. Blind Forest was such a beautiful game and I can't recommend it enough (especially if you're a fan of Metroidvanias), and I can't stress how excited I am for Will of the Wisps!

Life Is Strange prequel. Never keen on prequels, but it's hard not to be tempted by it with Rachel being involved (and alive) in the story. Although I find it odd that Max looks older in a prequel...

Some really cool indie games shown briefly, as well. The Last Night is one that really caught my eye with its unique pixelated, Cyberpunk aesthetic.

Got our first look at Bioware's new game, Anthem. Graphically stunning, and jetting through massive environments looks like a thrill, but at this rate it's just giving off the vibe of a prettier, larger Destiny. Have to wait and see, although I'm hopeful. Just a shame all of Bioware's talented artists and designers were on Anthem instead of Andromeda, apparently.

Cuphead also finally got a release date (September).

The last third of the conference was definitely better than the first two. Metro looks slick, Dragon Ball was a great highlight.

The last 2-3 games shown were great. Still worried about Crackdown 3.

Also now it's time to start Ori I guess, that trailer was beautiful.

I should add that most of the games that I liked are also coming to PC, so it's hard for me to justify a purchase a new system (especially at $499)

Oh yeah, that DBZ game is something I've been waiting for since the Budokai days. Absolutely hated Xenoverse. Metro looks great as always, even if it seems like the exact same game from that small snippet.

You really should! It's a touching story. The world is gorgeous and a joy to explore, and the platforming very smooth, intuitive and rewarding as well. I just replayed it again late last year, and the Definitive Edition added some great content (2 new areas, fast travel, new abilities, allowing the player to continue on after the main story).

Also, the soundtrack is just downright beautiful. One of my favourites!

If you haven't bought it yet, the definitive edition is currently on sale for $10.

What's interesting is that Minecraft Switch and Xbone will be able to cross play with one another

I don't agree with cross play. That's basically forming business trusts (which is illegal in the USA via Sherman anti trust act) when these consoles are meant for competition. Now many more people will buy the Xbone because they have a much. Ether online service, and not feel the need to buy a switch because they'll be able to cross play with their friends who do have a switch and minecraft. I expect Microsoft is trying to form a monopoly on their connsoles, or at least buy out Nintendo, who is vey prone and on the verge of becoming a third party company if the switch doesn't sell well enough.

lol I'll let MS and Sony duke it out and think that the Switch is their "secondary" console.

Ori was the best moment for me.

Anthem looked really good but the question is whether or not they can match those visuals & gameplay with decent characters, story and quests. Time will tell, but a part of me wonders what things might be like if this team had been working on Andromeda instead...

Then we might not have had crab walking memes, though. :[

Lots of people shitting on the Xbox One X name and I get it. "X" being the letter of choice is strange but they had to keep "One" in the title to let it be known that this is not an actual successor to the Xbox One but an addition, just like the S. Otherwise you would have a lot of confusion about its games also working on the Xbox One, which is a big point for them.

I've never played a Metro game, but it was pretty and allowed X1X to flex a bit.

Terry Crews appearance was cool, but I was a bit underwhelmed by that Crackdown trailer. It looks like it could run on the 360, and there was no environmental destruction shown, which is something that they tried to emphasize in the past. I don't think it's a good sign. I hope I'm wrong.

The new Sea of Thieves gameplay looked like a lot of fun, and was vastly improved without the obnoxious team chat (god I hate team chat in presentations). As most, however, I still don't know much of what the game is about. Why are we trying to collect loot? What else can we do? WHAT IS MY PURPOSE IN LIFE BUT FOR LOOT

Anthem did really well in showing the muscle of the X1X. When they first took off in flight it looked amazing. Voice chat overplay ruined what could have been a nice cinematic feel. The combat seemed appealing, like everything had some weight behind it. I'm with Moonray, though - single player experience is pretty important for me.

It was a good conference - not amazing, yet certainly not bad. They showed a lot of games which is something they have been criticized for in the past. And they showed what appeared to be JRPG titles which is something else that they have been criticized for not having. We can nitpick but I think it shows that they are listening to their audience and attempting to make changes based on that feedback. Unfortunately everything cannot be fixed at once.

I hate the XBox One X name because A) it just isn't particularly creative, and I also inherently think "XBox One" is a bad name too, and B) they're going to be selling XBox One S and XBox One X. Couldn't they have picked two different letters that sound different?

"I want an XBox One X!"

"Don't you have an XBox One S?"

"No, I said X!"

"S?"

"X!!!"

Like, why not XBox X and XBox C or something? Why use the two letters that sound the most alike?

Anyway, I'm with folks on Anthem. It looks interesting and is very pretty, and I like the option for co-op, really! But if it's only multiplayer, then I won't be getting it. It won't be a game for me.

I think they should have kept the Scorpio name with a big ass scorpion logo on it. It could have been like the Shelby or Roush version of the mustang.

I think its ok. They have the "One" part in the name, so you know its belonging to the xbone family at least.

Yeah why use the mass effect trilogy team on a multiplayer, gameplay-based game without plot? And where the hell were they during Andromeda?

EA fucked Bioware bad. They acquired them during ME2's development and every game after that has pissed people off.

We don't know there's no plot. That the issue with teasers at E3, they give you a glimpse of the game but they tell you very little overall.

I get that it's "cool" to bash on the big bad publisher but at some point you're going to have to realise that pretty much everything that pissed people off was something Bioware itself did, nothing to do with the publisher. The only exception I can think of is the day-one DLC of a prothean which is a very publisher thing to do.

Let's be real here, ME3 was a really good game with really the only things that were bad about it were the crappy ending and the early DLC being on the disk. The gameplay was the best of the series and included a pretty solid co-op multiplayer mode.

Dragon Age inquisition was also pretty good and miles better than dragon age 2.

it also had a lot of annoying bugs that were never fixed.

I never got to finish the kasumi recruitment mission because of them. And this was 3 years after release.

What bugs?

Also Kasumi was ME2 not ME3.

no she was in Me3 as well as a npc. You could do her loyalty/ recruitment mission to fend off the reapers.

this is the one. I dont think they ever did anything to fix it.

Ah. Forgot about that mission.

Dunno, but this is why I always save frequently in any RPG game, not just Bioware ones. They're so complex and go wrong all the time that I've just learn to make a mass of mostly unnecessary saves so when things bug I can get back to an unbugged point a retry.

Dragon Age inquisition was also pretty good and miles better than dragon age 2.

To be fair it's not difficult to be miles better than DA2. I was mostly disappointed with Inquisition's story. The only part that I found interesting were the Elven Gods bits, which thankfully in the final DLC turned out to be the main plot anyway.

I got Rare Replay for free by logging into Mixer during the Microsoft conference so that's cool.
