So why was my ban only a username ban and why has the reason changed to

I stayed away for most of it (it expires tomorrow) because I was intent on taking a break regardless and I was only asking for the ban as a precaution, but it made me wonder when I saw it was only a username ban.

And then just now when I check to see if it expired the reason changed from "literally asked for it" to "trolling". For what reason is "trolling" there? I was not trolling in the slightest, I wanted a break, I asked for a ban as a precaution, simple as that. And it was worth the time away really.

But I have to also assume there's a reason the blatant lie of "trolling" is there and I want an explanation. If it's a joke, it sucks. But either way please explain IF I was somehow doing something wrong that warrants the label of "trolling".

Also if you don't want me here, you can't really fault me for it when it's literally a username ban.

Username ban because it was possible your IP would have changed during the two weeks. Wasn't really worried about evasion because you'd asked for it.

As for the reason, not sure. The tool is a little weird, and if you've been banned in the past it seems to just 'extend' the ban. Ie: It currently thinks your ban length was from Nov 25th 2016, 10:08am to Jun 6th 2017, 9:36pm. Maybe 'trolling' was the reason you were last banned and it overwrote? Not sure.

All in all, I wouldn't be bothered about it. It's only something mods can see and it's buried in a list under a hundred auto-banned spambots.

It does actually sound familiar as a reason. Still seems odd that the reason would change though. But thanks for your input.

Until you remember this is GTX0 and weird stuff like this happens all the time.

With the amount of devices people have these days and how easy it is to get a different ip, no type of banning really works.

When I was banned for half the year mods would just delete anything I posted. That was pretty effective because it broke my spirit to post since I knew it would just disappear no matter the quality.

That's not necessarily true. There is a way, though I do not know it, to query for a devices MAC address. You could issue bans by MAC address and effectively ban that device no matter what it's ip changed to. Yeah, it's possible to cheat this one too, some people get free WiFi on planes that way, but it is a lot harder and you pretty much need either powerful software or a bonafide hacker to cheat it.

You don't need to be a hacker or have powerful software to spoof a MAC address.

Eh, I suppose your right. You don't need to be a hacker to do so, but you do need to know how to interact with network adapters from the command line which the average layperson cannot do.
