Would anyone be interested in an Elder Scrolls based NIFE game?

I'm pretty well versed I'm the lore and could tailor it to whatever you want to do. I'm kinda feeling a D&D style game.

Sounds interesting. I haven't been keeping up on the NIFE updates, so I'm not sure how well the ES mechanics could be implemented, but the idea is interesting.

I've always ben a big fan of the Elder Scrolls games series and have played the following:

Arena ·
II: Daggerfall ·
III: Morrowind (Tribunal ·
Bloodmoon)

IV: Oblivion (Knights of the Nine ·
Shivering Isles ·

V: Skyrim (Dawnguard ·
Hearthfire ·
Dragonborn)

Would like to see what you have in mind and how it would follow the single player and open world concept.

It really depends on how yall want to play it. What races will you use? What continent will it be on? Which era will it be set in? What are your characters motivations? All those things would be taken into consideration when creating the game world. I'll post some lore stuff in another thread later tonight and see what you all are feeling.

Would it be possible to give every player an in game 'avatar' so that the game can progress continuously but they can't be player killed while afk?

@Poptart!: the start date will be a bit away, and hopefully the time commitment will be completely up to you. This is going to be a project, not something I'm going to be able to throw together in a week's time. I'm glad there is a decent amount of interest because that gives me the motivation to really make something out of this.

@Xhin: if you can make it so that games can run concurrently, this could potentially run indefinitely. Although role-play and end game stuff would be considered, they could keep playing in the world as a sandbox or even have multiple end game scenarios over time, kinda like expansions.

Yes, NIFE totally does that. Also I've always liked the idea of indefinite games.

Basically I want a mechanic so that if a player walks into a room where another player is, they see the other player in the room. But I also want to allow players to be "hidden" in their room when they logout or use a command like "sleep" until they get back on the game, at which point they show back up.

It would be different from sneaking in that they wouldn't be subject to perception checks and they wouldn't be able to see what was happening until they "wake up"

@Ghowilo: Yeah that's totally possible. I have a "hidden things" update coming soon, and auto-actions are very easy to make, so.

Also the "not seeing" thing would be handled through a different "unconscious" update. So then the "sleep/wake" thing would be in their NIFE user CP and would hide/unhide and conscious/unconscious them.

Also, I hate to keep asking for more things, I think this should be the last thing though. The grid thing we talked about in another thread, could we possibly have a set of those implemented, so we can have multiple cities, as a sort of linked list so players could "fast travel" from city to city if they desire to do so?

I've been thinking about an open world game since NIFE was first being worked on (all those years ago lol). Now that we've actually got NIFE I've been thinking about it again & fast travel is obviously something I considered in these thoughts- so if Xhin can't get that implemented in time here's one solution you could do:

Have a fast travel room that has relationships within each city. Then you just have a player auto-action from "City 1" into "Fast Travel" and then auto action to "City 2".

I definitely think the squares/grid thing is a better place to be (not just for this purpose) but as a temporary workaround that works within the current limitations.

That's kind of what I'm doing with the "Hyperspace" room in the space war game.

I've been thinking about the grid thing a lot and.. there's no reason to have room relationships as the sole means of connecting them. For a grid-based game relationships are more useful for entering houses/dungeons or things like that, while The Grid can be used for fast overworld travel.
