Mostly just NIFE at this point
The Maze (NIFE game idea I've been putting my efforts into)
Posted: Posted May 17th by Xhin

  • Fully cooperative game. Almost all items are shared between all players.

  • works with just 1 player, but more is funner.

  • death has a cooldown before you can enter the game again, but isn't permanent

  • players can sign up and join in the game at any time.

  • The Host himself has an important playable role.

  • Rounds happen every 24 hours and serve to move dead players back into the game and recover health and mana.

  • Fully automatic game, no hosting needed.

  • Everyone has infinite auto-actions.

    Story and Goal

A band of adventurers come across a dungeon known to locals only as "The Maze", where they are told they will find the fabled Amulet of Yendor. They must cooperate, solve puzzles and use their wits to retrieve it. Deep within The Maze an evil force known as the Minotaur lurks who wants to prevent them from gaining the fabled Amulet of Yendor.

The goal of the game is to retrieve the Amulet of Yendor. This will require going through many challenges, solving puzzles, becoming stronger, and even taming the Minotaur at some point.

    Game play

  • Most passages of The Maze are blocked by locked doors. There's a lot of linear progression that involves finding specific Keys to unlock those doors.

  • Defeat enemies who may or may not be difficult to defeat.

  • Fight "Guardians" who have high defense but don't fight back with special weapons that you find.

  • Solve machine-based puzzles whose hints are scattered around The Maze.

  • Talk to Maze Denizens (NPC's), who will give you useful hints and strategies.

  • Occasionally run across The Minotaur and trick it into an isolated room, steal its weapons, or flee. The Minotaur is no NPC, it's played by the Host himself.

  • Collaborate with other players remotely in the Player thread.

  • Find your way through lost woods type sections known as "Labyrinths". There will be hints that help you get through these, potentially will be Sphynxes you'll have to beat, and will reward you with Key Items.

  • Use Key Items on Item Switches to open up new sections of The Maze.

  • Find powerups, strong weapons, and machines that boost your stats.

  • Defeat the Minotaur. Whoever deals the killing blow gets to control it for the rest of the game.

  • Use the Minotaur to defeat the Final Guardian and retrieve the Amulet of Yendor.

  • Earn Maze Karma (a stat) by interacting with key puzzles and defeating enemies. But be warned.. the Minotaur will go after whoever has the most Maze Karma.. and death makes you lose it.

  • Die and next round you'll be resurrected and transported to Purgatory (which isnt connected to the Maze in any way). Talk to the Minotaur Statue and learn valuable things about the Minotaur. Next round you'll be transported back to the start of The Maze.

    Rooms

The Maze has a very large amount of Rooms for a NIFE game, hundreds of them. They're arranged in a branch-like structure so you can find your way out of sections easily. Follow the relationships named "Back" and you'll be back at the start.

Doors are the things that separate branches from each other. They'll have a specific color and pattern, which will also show up on Keys that you find.

This could well be your downfall.

The rooms are also pretty barren.
