Trip down memory lane: This was my first computer

I just got down building a couple CAD machines for my job that have a AMD Ryzen 5 1600 6-core processor, 64GB of ram and a NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1060 6GB video card. While they are Not bone crushing, they are still pretty powerful. And this go tme to thinking about the first PC I ever had.

It was a Compaq Presario 5610 that I got in the summer of 1998. It had a Pentium II 350 MHz processor, 64 MB of SDRAM that I upgraded to it's limit of 384mb, a 8 GB hard drive and a ATI Rage LT Pro 4MB video card.

it came with a ZIP drive, remember those? Nobody does lol. You got a whopping 100mb from them. This was before CD-R's became a thing and it included a DVD reader drive. This was a big deal in 1998 as DVD players where becoming popular and were expensive. The first DVD I ever watched was the Matrix lol.

I remember playing MotoRacer and Incoming as they came with the computer. I later got Test Drive Off Road, Monster Truck Madness, Doom 2 and Descent 1+2 collection. It was the first system I ever played Half-Life on, and subsequently Team Fortress Classic and Counter-Strike.

You can see more details about this ancient beast here: https://www.cnet.com/products/compaq-presario-5610-pii-350-mhz-64-mb-8-gb/specs/

My family's first computer was an old Macintosh that was probably about as old as I was if not older and had just about as much processing power as a GameCube memory card.

My first personal computer was an Acer laptop with hinges like paper which lasted me through high school.

My first family PC was basically a P1 with Windows 98 (then 98 Second Edition then ME) with its super ugly beige case.

Used it for Internet Crap, Newgrounds and MSN Messenger.

Strangely enough, I couldn't get Windows Media Player to work on that thing without skipping so I used Winamp. I still use Winamp to this day...

The first computer that belonged to me personally is still in my possession. It's a Dell Dimension E510 with a Pentium 4 and 1GB RAM and came with XP Media Center Edition. It cost my parents $999.

I have no idea what our first family computer was... all I know is it ran DOS and Windows 3.1.

it came with a ZIP drive, remember those?

We had one of those! They were pretty cool for their time. 100MB was a pretty good size.

I still use Winamp to this day...

Do you run the full Winamp application with all the whistles and bells or do you run Winamp Lite? The Lite player still looks exactly like Winamp from the 90s and it even still has that "intelligent" random visualization that looks like an acid trip. Awesome stuff.

I also had a Compaq Presario! Not sure what the specs were on it, but it was Windows 98, it was able to play Rayman Forever, and it worked with dial up. The most complex program it could run was Adobe Photoshop 7.0. That was before Adobe put protection on their disks. It ran like hell.

I still have that copy of Rayman 20 years later. It doesn't work :(
