Where you at in Hyrule? (BOTW Progress Thread)
Posted: Posted March 26th by Chain Chomp

So where you at??? I know everyone has probably been talking about their progress in other threads, but I figured I'd make a compilation thread for us to reflect and nerd-out on our exploration of Hyrule.

ITT: Neat things you've discovered and sweet parries you wish you recorded.

Currently at 59 shrines completed, 2 DBs defeated (Vah Ruta and Vah Medoh), 14 hearts and 2 full stamina wheels obtained, and 9 memories... remembered. I've explored every region except whatever's between Ridgeland and Gerudo - I'll probably do that later today.

I've been doing some sidequests from pretty much anywhere I find them and taking on main quests when convenient.

I got 4 ponies: Jane, Wrath, Agro and Phaedra.

I pick up badass weapons only to end up with multiples of the same kind cause I just don't want to use 'em at all ever! XD

My weapon of choice against White-maned Lynels? Why, it's that armbone of some other creature I slayed moments before encountering the Lynel, duh! I'll hold on to my Royal collection, tyty.

BARK-BARK!
There are 53 Replies

I'm at 12 shrines, 6 hearts, 1 stamina wheel, 8 Korok seeds? I'll have to double check later tonight after work. I havent been playing much.

I have two horses but I'll be unregistering them since theyre not fast enough.

Posted March 26th by Castrael
Castrael

Not too shabby for not playing that much. I totally forgot about Korok seeds. I have 55 of them. I find about 3-5 seeds per playthrough so I've kept them stocked for inventory expansions.

I feel you on the horses. My Jane is pretty slow but I can't bear to part with my first D:

And dang, so do you mean you haven't upgraded your stamina wheel at all? If so, that's brutal! I should clarify that I meant that I've upgraded my stamina 4 (5?) times so that it literally makes 2 rotations before my Link's spent.

Edited March 26th by Chain Chomp
Chain Chomp

I've found all memories, completed all divine beasts, uncovered all regions, I have the Master Sword and I went back and did the final fight to see if I got a different ending than before.

In addition, I've found three great fairies so I can get 3-star armor, 80 shrines completed, I have one full row of hearts plus 5 on the second row, two and one-fifth stamina wheels, and, uh.... can't remember the number of Koroks I've found but it's definitely less than 100.

Also, it didn't pertain to any quest (that I'm aware of) but I unexpectedly found the Hylian shield last night and was really excited! It would have been nice if I had found it way earlier in my playthrough...

So I'm nowhere near finished in terms of finding everything, but as far as the main story goes, I wrapped things up last night.

> I pick up badass weapons only to end up with multiples of the same kind cause I just don't want to use 'em at all ever! XD

I know what you mean. In hindsight, I would have used my weapons more because I kept getting more anyway and having to leave some behind. Don't be afraid to bust out the good gear, unless the gear is one-of-a-kind and you have reservations about losing those, which is completely understandable. Forever ago, I found the "Blade of Duality" or whatever it's called. Never used it one time. Even throughout the rest of the game, it still seems like it was one of the best swords you could find with attack power at 50. I like how I can say I still have that sword, but it does suck that I couldn't bring myself to take advantage of it at all.

Posted March 26th by Johan-Sensei
Johan-Sensei

Ah yeah the Edge of Duality, I believe. I don't remember how I even got my first one, but I do know it was super early in the game. I still have it along with 2 other EoDs - all untouched. If I can find a steady drop location, I'll be more open to using them. I'll probably end up using one regardless though. I love fighting Lynels.

Since I got the Master Sword, I've found it to be my go-to weapon when another one breaks. I just wish its durability was significantly greater. No wonder Link needed to be resurrected, shit probably broke in the fight ONE HUNDRED YEARS AGO.

Regarding one-of-a-kind weapons... well, are there any?

Speaking of the Hylian Shield, I coincidentally found it two days ago. I was pretty thrilled because I was under the impression that it was locked behind an Amiibo for some reason.

Posted March 26th by Chain Chomp
Chain Chomp

Dang it, I didn't know you could get more Edges of Duality.

And I thought there was a one-of-a-kind weapon I got from the Gerudo, but maybe it's possible to get more? I'm not really sure now.

Posted March 26th by Johan-Sensei
Johan-Sensei

Thinking back to it now, I'm pretty sure that I've only got them from shrines, never enemies themselves. I think I'd remember that fight.

Is the weapon you got a Champion's?

Posted March 26th by Chain Chomp

the main reason I bought a house was for the equipment mounts :J

no clue on progress numbers other than to say I've saved two divine beasts. I have, like...ten hearts and 3/5 of a second stamina wheel, plus about a dozen spirit orbs I didn't bother to trade in yet.

lately I've become a fan of black hinoxes and their free royal equipment

Edited March 26th by Pirate_Ninja
Pirate_Ninja

wtf man.. how many hours have you played? I'm close to 40 hours and only 7 hearts and 2/5 of a full stamina wheel. Haven't faced a boss at all. Really fucking slow I guess. I did buy a house though just yesterday and two weapon mounts. I have some powerful swords(mostly from ganondorf amiibo), but the knight broadsword I got a ton of.. My favorite basic sword is the eightfold blade though. Dual axe blade is pretty cool but I broke mine and forgot where I found it. ._.

I have two horses.. I named my polka dot brown horse "defnotcrzy" and my solid blue one "neptune."

I'm at Flora forest or w/e and I'm trying to get to a shrine on top of a waterfall but if just rains 24/7 there every time I try to approach it.
Seriously FUCK THE RAIN._.

if there's a waterfall next to it just make an ice staircase

better yet, go start the zora quest and you'll get something to make it even easier

Posted March 26th by Pirate_Ninja

So far I've got 8 hearts total and 2 extra stamina containers. By my math that means I've done roughly 28 shrines?

Mostly just spending my time exploring and trying to get towers/shrines.

Gotten one DB (Vah Ruta). A little mixed on the buff it gives you that basically gives you a freebie life. Feels like cheating?.

Managed to track down full armor sets of zora armor and climbing gear. Plus a few of the purchased sets including the stealth one.

Finally getting over my fear of using strong weapons. Still don't care for the durability system or how broken weapons break the flow of combat, but they're minor issues.

Also have one horse, Gale, but I really don't use it much.

Right now I'm trying to beat some kind of 'event' on an island. It takes away all your gear and you have to scavenge new stuff. Really cool actually, but also probably one of the most difficult sections of the game for me so far. It seems fairly lengthy, and the game won't let you save during, so a death = a restart.

I went into this game pretty skeptical but I've been really impressed. It still has its issues, but I'm having a lot of fun with it.

Also, I'm a little surprised that the crafting mechanic is limited to just food and elixirs. I tend to find myself running low on arrows a lot, and it seems like the game world would be ripe for just crafting some out of some sticks and rocks. It's a weird oversight!

Posted March 26th by Count Dooku
Count Dooku

Zora lets you swim upstream right? yeah I'll get to that eventually.

I didn't think we could make staircases out of waterfalls. I could have sworn I tried that before and it didn't work.
HMM gonna get to work and play this song on it.

I'm probably gonna beat Eventide Island tonight and mount lanayaru before I hit up zora domain.

You'll find some in barrels and crates as well. Also, when you're against bobolikins or other enemies that shoot arrows at you. Run for cover. Whatever arrows that come through your arrow and miss, you can actually collect them. You can also sell your food, elixers, etc for rupees to buy arrows in villages and single traveling salesmen if need be.

Black Hinoxs may be the guys I've picked up the Royalty gear from.

I have a few complete sets, but I wish I could find the Climbing Trousers. Only piece left with that set.

Lol @ rain. Yeah it's pretty inconvenient for sure, but it definitely becomes less of a problem when your stamina's high enough.

Posted March 26th by Chain Chomp
Chain Chomp

the climbing gear should have had a bonus effect where you get resistance against slipping. It's bs. Or perhaps slipping shouldn't happen so often

Posted March 26th by ShadowFox08
ShadowFox08

Or maybe it could rain less. Hyrule's weather is comparable to the American Northwest.

Posted March 26th by Chain Chomp
Chain Chomp

Haha yeah it's been pretty brutal, especially when I can't climb up those high cliffs. I've been making a lot of hasty elixers for those towers as well.

Try to make a lot recipes with Endura mushrooms or Endura carrots when you find some. Those helped me a lot in the beginning.

I'm nowhere! I own a Switch, own the game, yet I can't play until my partner and I beat Final Fantasy IX together. Then we're playing Zelda: BotW together. Can't wait!

Took me like 10 times to make that ice stairway up the waterfall in the rain, and not fall down, but I made it, and I got access to the shrine. Funny enough, just getting up the waterfall and having the lightning take the shrine down was all it took to get my 4th orb.

Also, I fought my first Lynel! I had medium defense from food and wore the hylian armor set took it down easy with that. Kinda feels like cheating.

Edited March 27th by ShadowFox08

You're supposed to fight them with no buffs and only a quarter-heart left

I actually started a whole new game. It's been a lot easier with more stamina. I also started using the parental app to keep track of my time. Im about 11 hrs in. Spent 10 hrs at least playing on Fri. Lol. That's from taking breaks in between. Deuling Peaks is complete. Did all quests and shrines. Working on Hateno now. I didnt know you can get a house. So cool.

I actually started a whole new game.

Whyyyy. You can actually redistribute your hearts and stamina on the fly using a specific statue...

I haven't played in a few days and I'm definitely itching to get back to it. I have all of my map filled in aside from whatever is in the very upper left past some very large cliffs.

Posted April 2nd by Count Dooku

Posted April 2nd by ShadowFox08

BEAT IT! 19 hearts, nearly 3 s. wheels, around 85 shrines, all memories recovered and all DBs conquered.

Epic final battle, but it was a bit easier than I thought it'd be. Bring on hard mode.

I wish you could keep the Bow of Light :/

Edited April 3rd by Chain Chomp
Chain Chomp

Really? That fast? how many hours did you play? Ain't legit until you get all 120 shrines beat and

-Approaching 50 hours. Beat another lynol. Still haven't even touched a divine beast yet. Sad thing is this whole weekend I only played 2 hours, and it was a few hours ago before I watched the walking dead season 7 finale. ._.

It's funny that it usually takes me 50 hours to beat a main 3D Zelda game.. And here I am just taking my time and exploring and upgrading shit. ._.

Edited April 3rd by ShadowFox08
ShadowFox08

Definitely over 100 hours. Maybe even 120. It's all I've been playing in my spare time lmao.

I've dropped countless Lynels now. Half of my bows are Savage Lynel Bows and the other half are Royals.

I actually didn't plan on even beating it today, but I got too curious after exploring Hyrule Castle . I've maxed-out many of my armor sets so 19 hearts was definitely enough.

I have just under 100 Korok seeds. Only 800+ to go!

Posted April 3rd by Chain Chomp
Chain Chomp

I haven't check my hours recently but I bet I have put in at least somewhere in the 40-50 hour range. I have 8 hearts and 2 stamina wheels. i completed the bird divine beast above Rito village and have around 38 shrines completed. I have only been able to play a couple hours a night sporadically since I have gotten it. There have been a couple days I was actually able to put in more than a few hours but with College, Work and the National Guard I have not had alot of time.

last night I completed the Qaza tokki shrine that is in the middle of a maze that is located near the Tabantha Tundra that gave me some pants that increase my attack power.

Edited April 3rd by Q

that was the easier of the two labyrinths I've been through, nice little mini-dungeon kinda thing

3 divine beasts done
4 great fairies
80 shrines
84 seeds
3 stamina wheels
16 hearts
all memories

TIL moldugas hit like a fucking freight train

I wish there was a cooler way of fighting those other than standing on a rock and tricking it with bombs ^^ (that's what I did lol).

Posted April 3rd by Chain Chomp

p much, lol. Was kinda curious if you could get away with standing still and bombing or something like that, but the cost of getting hit while in my shitty heat-resistance outfit was too high.

8 hearts (I will be getting my ninth soon. I have 4 orbs.)
2 1/2 Stamina Wheel. (So, one to start, the second still working on.)
38 shrines done
19 korok seeds found
1 great fairy
2 towers left: Central, Faron. (Heeelp!!! I think it was two.)

about 45 hrs in maybe. I need to check the app later after work.

Edited April 5th by Castrael

Update!

1 divine beasts done
2 great fairies (I think)
52 shrines
20 seeds
1 1/2 stamina wheels
14 hearts
2 towers left to activate
Not sure how many memories
Got the Master Sword (in love)
About 50 hrs in
Completed all of Dueling Peaks quests done, been working on Hateno

Edited April 7th by Castrael
Castrael

finished it last night, ganon is a ninny (but looks cool)

all divine beasts, great fairies, memories, and shrines
full world map
hylian shield
109 seeds
2 horses that I owned but never really used

a side requirement I set for myself was to complete any sidequest I found, which ended up being 62 sidequests done. That was the source of both my horses (the wild white horse descended from Zelda's horse, named Medea, and the giant horse from the southern plains, named big boy), as well as the most unpleasant task that the game set forth imo (fuck that old dude who asks you for 55 rushrooms, seriously). I also kinda wish you had some degree of choice in rebuilding your house - completing that quest requires you buy every upgrade, and you don't have any input other than what order you get things. I really don't need three bow and shield mounts, for example.

bonus high-five to anyone who gets why I named with white horse the way I did

@Pirate_Ninja: Yeah, I figured it out. It was one of those of "duh" moments. I think the hardest out of all of them was the Elephant one.

Update!

Complete Map of Hyrule
1 Memory Left (Which is at Hyrule Castle)
All divine beasts
53 Shrines

I did a lot today. x.x Now, I just need to upgrade my armor, get more shrines, and do the quests that I've been neglecting. Also, Korok seeds, but they're so annoying to find. I think that's it really. I'm probably sitting at 60 hrs. Give or take.

Posted April 14th by Castrael
Castrael

Dropped Zelda. I have raged quit so many times all I have been doing are the quests at the moment. Completed the Sand Boots and Snow Boots quests yesterday. Working on that 55 Rushroom quest thingie. And, I'm also trying to get the Horns from the dragons to upgrade my Champion Tunic. I'm doing terribly on that as well. SIIIIIGH

I have all memories.
30 Korok Seeds
54 Shrines
All towers
3 Fairies I think
I tried beating Ganon and failed miserably. His second phase was annoying. lol So, I need to train Link some more and practice on my parry, etc.
Trying to stock up on Hearty Radishes and Truffles. Those big ones are a life saver.
Fucking Guardians can go to hell.

Edited April 22nd by Castrael

I wish we could get these threads stickied.

I'm over a hundred hours in, with 2 divine beasts done(on death mountain right now actually), 13 hearts, max stamina, 3 spirit orbs, 2 fairy upgrades 80ish shrines, and well over 100 korok seeds. After death mountain, I have akaala and the two gerudo regions I need to officially visit. Also need like 5 more memories.

horns from dragons is a total bitch.. It's a pain enough as it is to aim for the body, but the horns? Its the reason why I don't have level 2 upgraded for the champion tunic. ._.

Edited June 11th by ShadowFox08
ShadowFox08

yeah, I think I upgraded one "you need dragon bits" level of tunic and then ignored the rest. Just not interested in heading to a specific place at a specific time repeatedly in search of "rare" drops that are really just time-consuming and inconvenient.

the endgame was still easy with that, though, because it's a lot simpler to upgrade the Amber Earrings and Hylian Trousers. Combining them with the partially-upgraded tunic was still more than 60 defense, plus however much food you bring along (4 apples + hearty radish = lol just try and kill me). And I went through the entire game without making food to boost any stat other than heat/cold/fire resistance.

Posted June 11th by Pirate_Ninja
Pirate_Ninja

scratch that.. i'm more like 75 shrines done.

how in the world do you only have like 5 hours more than me but already beat the game and have most of the content? ._.

Oh and I got the horns for farosh(waited on top of that bridge).. Took me a bit, but once i got it, it actually wasn't so bad! I used one of the hero powers to go up and float and waited for it, and then I used that phenric bow lets you zoom in and aimed for the horn.

Posted June 12th by ShadowFox08
ShadowFox08

yeah - I'd just wait for night, then warp to the tower south of there and glide to the south tower of the bridge. That's near the early part of the dragon route, so I'd just jump off and Matrix it with a long-range bow when it got close. Not hard, just kind of annoying to go out of my way to do and I didn't want to drag the game out further looking for similar solutions to the other two dragons (especially since I really didn't need the upgrade). Farosh was the first one I saw and it wasn't hard to pick up on that pattern.

how in the world do you only have like 5 hours more than me but already beat the game and have most of the content? ._.

bc I channel zelda's power directly

Metal Mario/Mewtwo all the way. 9_9

yeah, totally down for an enhanced smash port

but you could also just, like...go online with the copies you have...

(also I hope you actually use metal mario instead of gold mario, he's cooler and unlocking goldboy was too easy for it to be a status symbol)

I could, but its completely dissassembled from my tv. My brother took it out to play with his friends a couple times. Not to say I couldn't put it back together. We'd have to schedule something next weekend or something. Right now Im pretty focused on beating botw and I suck at mutlitasking between games. ;_;

Brah, only way you can beat me if I use gold/metal mario is if you use pink gold peach. I only have played this game for 5 hours, but I'll get back on it soon. Just taking my time starting to beat 100cc tracks after I beat 50cc. 9_9

And after I beat your ass in smash 4/mario kart 8 deluxe, you'll hear this sexy middle eastern gypsy song over your heard, that seriously needs to be extended longer with orchestrated music 9_9 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHVzJGWSG80&t=13494s

Yeah I know, I'm taking my time up to it. I beat all of 50cc two weeks ago and I'm a few cups in 100cc. I don't have much motivation to play this online with randoms, so I want to milk the single player aspect.
