All manual actions have been updated. View your journal for details.

The current round will end in roughly 3 hours time (probably 3pm UTC at the latest). If you wish to use your remaining actions for this round, get them done before then.

Host Message

Due to questions about OOG I have now setup (and you can test) a sort of in game OOG.

Every character now has a commlink and by default you are on channel 1. There are four public channels, in order to swap channel you must use ONE manual action. You will then swap channel at the end of the round.

You may also create private channels. To do so just say something like "Creates private channel Alpha" (name must be unique). To share access to a private channel use a manual action to share access. Anyone with access can share access, so be careful who you share with.

You may only be in one Public Channel at a time, however for hosting simplicity you may be in multiple private channels at the same time.

Please post any questions in the Main Thread.

Hey dooku, I'm in the server room. Theres all kinds of good stuff to destroy in here. My plan is to definitely thoroughly destroy the security system, but to take server nodes out of the life support cluster instead of outright destroying it, so it can't really be repaired without me telling the humans where I've hidden it. (Hey it worked in Riddick)

Get yourself a spacesuit if you haven't already so you can survive without life support.

Also if you run across infrared goggles (research lab maybe?) And have a good weapon, I could maybe turn off the lights.

Oh hey.

I'll need to try and find a space suit. Suggestions on where to get one?

I'm in research right now.

I have a Blaster Pistol, but I don't know how good it is. The armory is locked (via the security station from corridor) with delta card access. I am trying to find someone to let me in.

I have a welding torch if we need to try to seal rooms. Could possibly seal / cut life support at the same time? Worth considering.

I made a trip to the engine room and power core. Not much of interest, but may be able to pull some shenanigans with the reactor.

I think I'll have a space suit after this round ends.

I also should be getting a useful item from the bunk room.

Sounds like we'll be nearby each other at the start of next round. Maybe we can plot something devious.

I have a space suit. I see your sabotage went well.

I have just acquired a keycard that can lock and unlock doors with very high security (I think). Hopefully it still works. Any ideas for it?

That actually didn't go as well as I hoped. I damaged the security systems, and the AI created a defensive forcefield around the other security systems clusters, so no life support shenanigans for now :(

The security system being down might disable the door locks -- if so, one of us should probably go to the captain's office and/or security office.

Maybe the security office will let us disable the forcefields on the other server room clusters? Idk, that might be a lost cause anyway since the human players will probably try to protect the server room from now on.

I honestly think we're better off sabotaging the escape ships, if we can locate them.

I'm an engineer, so I have a lot of excuse to be messing with the escape shuttles. I am currently in the security station, one move away from the hangar. I will investigate it next round.

One idea I have, which might be hard to pull off, is that in the process of 'fixing' the shuttles we should install a bomb of some sort that would activate when they try to leave. Call it a fail-safe.

No doubt the host will make us be rather thorough about it for fairness.

The power core reactor might give us the material for a bomb, but we'd need to figure out a way to get it safely.

Also I found a 'strange DNA sample' that may have some unknown use. Keep your eye out for anything DNA-related.

I like that plan.

Where is the power core reactor?

Also I'm still in exploration mode soooo I might be in the same room as you soon. :D

Also worth pointing out that I have a keycard that does this:

Identifies you as the first officer, unlocks consoles locked with First Officer, Security, Engineer & Medical protocols. Can be used to lock consoles with First Officer, Security, Engineer & Medical protocols.

So, since I probably did the first aggressive action in the game, you should know a couple things:

  • I tranquilized vandy. It may or may not work.

  • If I can tranquilize him successfully, I'll sneak up on him and then try to kill him quietly.

    @Moonray:

  • I fixed a bug where recover stealth actions aren't themselves always stealthed (kiiiinda important).

  • I fixed another bug where stealthed posts were showing up in the NIFE user CP.

Hopefully I'm the only one who got caught in those bugs before they were fixed. And hopefully I didn't get caught, because I'd like to stay an alien :)

Also I lied, I just now tested the sneak thing and there was like three layers of bugs to get through before it totally actually worked. Anyway, definitely fixed now.

    @Moonray:

  • Actions CP shows stealthed actions by making them purple and having a "Stealthed" line below the action.

  • Actions CP shows the room a player is in and links to it.

Vandy is unconscious this round, he knows that I injected him with a tranquilizer though. I should be able to kill him, but there's an accuracy concern there, so it might be better to give the blaster pistol to him, and then tell everyone that Vandy tried to shoot me but I fled.

@Count Dooku: , can you tell me how many people there are in the security station? If no one are coming to the hangar bay for any reason, I can save my sneak and just shoot him openly three times.

Well I decided to just be aggressive and attempt to kill Vandy three times. If I fail, I'll have no choice but to be aggressive towards whoever tries to kill me.

I ended up in the captain's office so I'm going to see what kind of items/etc I can find here. I also found a second blaster pistol, so I might just dual-wield those or something.

The only issue with that is that the rooms don't show player descriptions sooo no one can really confirm what you say. So actually that means you could claim to have been shot at without shooting yourself at all.

Also don't be in the hangar at the end of this round. Something might happen. Something might not.

    Sounds good to me :)

Also killing Vandy seems to have gone well. I'm going to be a little more strategic for the time being, unless there's an opportunity to be aggressive that I can't pass up.

    Also @Count Dooku:

For the sake of gameplay the escape ship and all key items related to it CANNOT be destroyed.

I don't think this applies to laying traps around the escape ship necessarily -- that should hurt the humans who try to escape without damaging the ship.

I've also thought about picking up key items and using them as leverage or something ("kill chiefsonny and throw his corpse into the corridor and I'll give you the hyperdrive")

Posted March 21st, Round 6 by Ensign Xhin
    Ensign Xhin

Also also I picked up a *third* blaster pistol. I also used my manual actions on looking at the options in the security station -- if there's anything interesting in the consoles there, I'll go back and use them for mischief.

    @Xhin:

Yeah I realized I could just claim injury without doing it. But I figured the ship AI might say something (about weapons fire), and then I could go into comms thread and complain about it.

Also the advantage of actually doing it would be if a doctor tried to double check.

But yeah, that idea is on hold.

    ---

As for the escape ship, I'm stuck in the power room right now. Going to to try to figure out a way to weaponize the power core.

    ---

    Next round or two:

I'm going to head to the server room and see if I can gain more control over the station with my security spike.

    @Xhin:

I have not made it there yet. Anything I should know? Was going to it at one point, but once you sabotaged the servers I figured it was more important to get to the armory before everyone else.

Also FYI, there are no random items to be found in Engines / Power Core / Gravity. Presumably you can get specific stuff if it makes sense, but the auto-actionable pickups are gone.

The hyperdrive has this description, since you mentioned it earlier:

Success! The hyperdrive motivator has been damaged, it is currently impossible to manually disenage the hyperdrive to perform any work on it.

    Important Update

After observing how the game runs on NIFE I have decided to add an additional win/lose condition.

    Humans
  • Do NOT allow any aliens to escape with you.

    Aliens
  • If one or both of you escapes on the escape ship (with or without the humans) then the humans will automatically lose.

I believe there are sufficient objects and abilities in the game world that this is still a balanced option. If you wish to discuss this change please post objections/concerns/thoughts in the main thread.

On that note, I saw Helius asking about some item he was supposed to receive. Given that he's the doctor, that might pose a threat to us.

    @Count Dooku:

I have not made it there yet. Anything I should know?

Thought you might want to know what's there so you can plan accordingly:

    Server Cluster - Power
A group of servers that manage the power systems of the ship.

    Server Cluster - Life Support
A group of servers that manage the life support systems of the ship.

    Server Cluster - Weapons
A group of servers that manage the weapons systems of the ship.

    Server Cluster - Gravity
A group of servers that manage the gravity systems of the ship.

    Server Cluster - Communications
A group of servers that manage the communications systems of the ship.

    Server Cluster - Propulsion
A group of servers that manage the propulsion systems of the ship.

    Server Cluster - Shields
A group of servers that manage the shields systems of the ship.

    Server Cluster - Security
A group of servers that manage the security systems of the ship.

    Server Cluster - Doors
A group of servers that manage the door systems of the ship.

    Server Cluster - Lights
A group of servers that manage the lighting systems of the ship.

    AI Core
The AI Core. It is protected by a defensive forcefield.

Don't trust the descriptions, these were from 4 rounds ago (and they're all protected by a forcefield now I believe). Nonetheless, there's a lot to play around with here.

Given that he's the doctor, that might pose a threat to us.

Hmm, that's a good point. If they have some way of detecting aliens that will be very bad for us.

That sounds terrible. Although I could see that coming in handy if you trap someone in the same room as you.

So we need this to exit on the ship:

  • Hyperdrive Parts
  • Shield Core
  • Navigation Charts
  • Destination Programming
  • Gravity Sphere
  • All occupants require a space-suit
  • Launch Auth. Codes

I have a shield core in my inventory and an anti-gravity gun that I can probably take the gravity sphere from. (although I'm thinking that would be more useful with the server stuff).

I also have three space suits so hopefully that will prevent at least one human from leaving.

  • Posted March 29th, Round 9 by Ensign Xhin
    Ensign Xhin

I have two space suits and I think chief mentioned he has a few. I suspect there may be more suits than players though.

We should definitely try to acquire some of these parts so the humans can't.

Be careful entering the engine room. I'm going to try to set up a trap.

Posted March 30th, Round 9 by Engineer Dooku

Sounds good to me. I'm going to wander around the ship, attempting to find the parts necessary to escape and/or sabotage the station and/or kill players I run across.

It's hard to tell where any of the players are (and I wasted 4 actions figuring that out) so it might be better to start destroying rooms/laying traps like you're doing.

If we can gather the parts necessary to escape though one or both of us could theoretically take the ship out and escape without the humans / destroy the ship / destroy the station with the ship.

    @Xhin:

How close are you to the Power Core?

Corridor > Security Station > Engine Room > Power Generator

I'm trying to figure out a way to take control of the ship's AI using the hacking tool I found. But I need the defensive forcefields taken down. Any chance you could get into the Power Generator room and shut down power to the Server Room?

If not, I have other ideas, but they may not be host-acceptable.

Also the engine room is no longer booby trapped. Chief tripped it and got injured. So if you head back that way maybe you can finish him off.

Honestly the wire wasn't the issue. I just stole some from the engine room.

The issue was that I had to leave my blaster as part of the trap, and I don't have another. I do have some better weapons, but nothing that would really work in the same way.

Yeah, apparently the AI core is basically off limits. Kind of annoying that it's even in the room.

Go ahead and repower everything this round. I will try to take control of one of the following server clusters:

    Server Cluster - Power
A group of servers that manage the power systems of the ship.

    Server Cluster - Life Support
A group of servers that manage the life support systems of the ship.

    Server Cluster - Weapons

    Server Cluster - Security

    Server Cluster - Doors
A group of servers that manage the door systems of the ship.

    Server Cluster - Lights
A group of servers that manage the lighting systems of the ship.

Any suggestions? I only have one service piercer, and I'm guessing it isn't multi-use.

I could try to take control of the shield servers and shut them down, but if the piercer is single use I still won't be able to do much... although I could maybe kill the AI by destroying it. Then there wouldn't be so many systems to stop us wrecking the place.

@Count Dooku: What do you mean by "everything"? Like control consoles for every room or something?

I would definitely try to find a way to see where the other players are, or track their movements or something. The sneak thing is making it impossible to kill players directly.

Also how are you controlling the AI? Is it something intrinsic to you or do you have a device or something? If you die somehow I'd like to be able to continue your legacy (although I'm far more likely to die first :P)

My plan right now is to fix the ship and then use it to destroy the station. I have a shield core and a bunch of space suits, I can probably get both hyperdrive parts and a gravity sphere this round.

Also you could get rid of oxygen in human rooms and maybe kill off those without space suits.

    @Xhin:

What do you mean by "everything"?

Here is my result from asking the AI to tell me what functions it had available:

The AI can control everything in the ship. Rather than list it, it would be easier if you just checked with the glorious host if you can do things you want (but you probably can). The AI can respond to voice commands (aka use manual actions but you don't have to be in this room).

Also how are you controlling the AI? Is it something intrinsic to you or do you have a device or something? If you die somehow I'd like to be able to continue your legacy (although I'm far more likely to die first :P)

    Basically I did this action:

Engineer Dooku uses his service piercer and engineer laptop on the AI core, attempting to take control of the ship\'s AI so it will respond to his commands.

I agree you should have access. I will use one of my actions this round to order the AI to obey your commands. We should coordinate from there on so we don't contradict actions though.

Also you could get rid of oxygen in human rooms and maybe kill off those without space suits.

Not a bad idea, although I suspect it would take a LONG time. Might be a good distraction though.

More harmful/annoying might be messing with the gravity controls. I tried to dial up the gravity to 'dangerous levels' in the hangar at one point but the AI overruled me for safety. Now that shouldn't be a problem.

Have you seen any hints towards destination progamming, launch auth codes, or navigation charts?

;) I'll ask our new friend

Also FYI I will be out his weekend. So I will put in my actions (give you AI control, possibly seal off the server room, ask the ai about the things you wanted (might only get one at a time) sometime in the next few hours.

Mine are too. I should have the hyperdrive parts and at least an idea of what a gravity sphere is, which I should be able to make while I'm over here.

I considered dropping some key items in the corridor and rigging them to explosives for more subterfuge because we can probably make more of them.

This is something I've been meaning to ask about.

Could we change how sneak works. Remove the auto-hide from player list and turn it into a auto-action that hides you from the player list until you move room or something. Perhaps also give the host the ability to give it a cost?

Also an option to remove the "sneak recovery" action as it's sorta unnecessary in games where stealth automatically recovers each round.

What do you mean by a cost? It already has a cost, doesn't it?

Also is it a good idea to change this mechanic mid-game?

Also an option to remove the "sneak recovery" action as it's sorta unnecessary in games where stealth automatically recovers each round.

Yeah that can get removed entirely, although I did use it to good effect at one point (I was at 40 and I used it to commit the first sneak action of the game).

Auto-hide does not have a cost. As it stands right now you hit the threshold and you're hidden...

You can modify it whenever you want, but right now we have a game where no one can see anyone... Hence your issue of being unable to really attack people.

    @Moonray:

Fair enough. So the best way to do it would probably be something like this:

  • You're visible by default.

  • You can use a special action that doesn't contribute to your auto-action limit to hide yourself from the visible characters list.. but it consumes the same amount as a sneaked auto-action (10 in this case)

  • It works for the entirety of the round, but at the start of the next round you become visible again.

If that's not a great solution, maybe we could at least work with it and optimize it.

  • Posted April 9th, Round 13 by Engineer Xhin

That would work as a start.

Personally I would prefer if it de-activates when you move room rather than at the end of a round. Seems like it'd have more strategic use if you could use it one round and then wait for your prey to enter the room the next round.

The AI informs you that the Launch Auth Codes and Navigation Charts were on the bridge, but are currently unaccounted for. Destination Programming is currently being projected in the Meeting Room but no one pays attention to rooms because they think they'll never change!

    Also @Xhin:

Success! The AI will respond to voice commands from ENGINEER Xhin

    No problem.

I had the AI send out the fake message about the Captain's Office in order to lure people onto the bridge, where I have cranked the gravity up to harmful levels.

I have also discovered that each room has a hidden laser turret in it that could be activated at our whim.

@Count Dooku: I attacked PN but failed to kill him. He also knows I attacked him, so I've done the mafia thing and pre-emptively told the commlink I'm in that PN attacked me. This may eventually result in my death but adventure is different from mafia in that the humans can't necessarily kill me easily.

Have you found the destination programming, launch Auth codes or navigation charts? I have all the other key items to get off the ship.

Perhaps it's time to get the turrets to indiscriminately attack humans or something. I'm going to look into room destruction so that we can gather the humans all in one place maybe.

I think I'm going to move this round as well. We could meet up and make a stand? Even if word gets out, the humans seem disorganized. And we basically control the station.
