Has anyone here had experience with Hackintosh? I've been needing a new laptop for a while, but I've been torn between getting a Macbook Pro and a solid Windows one. I've never been particularly fond of Macs, however the uni I go to is only stocked with them (so transferring files between OS has proven to be a hassle), and the software I want/need to use (Pro Tools, Avid, Logic) are all Mac exclusive, as far as I'm aware.

Would anyone recommend Hackintosh for using resource-heavy programs like Pro Tools and Avid? Or would I just be better off sinking the extra money into a Macbook Pro?

I've done it, but not since OS X 10.6.4-10.6.8 (that was back in, 2010? Yea so it's been a while). There were stability problems for sure, especially when there are updates. I do not know if that has changed in the recent releases of Multibeast but you have to build with very specific hardware or something annoying (like your mouse) breaks. You are better off sinking the money into a Macbook Pro, imo.

I also had trouble shopping for hardware that people in the US were using since not all of it was available in Canada without some absurd shipping fees. Though the non-exact hardware was definitely the source of my troubles.

If you want a good resource then tonymacx86.com is a good place to start.

You may try: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201468

I know Mac the feaature called Bootcamp, though I haven't had a chance to play with it fully myself, it does a pretty good job with driver support.

You may also try a Virtual Machine with OS X if you would like too if the Hackintosh doesn't pan out.
