I just finished the XV postgame today (not everything, just the parts I cared about), probably going to be a little while before I FF again but the next one I touch will probably be giving 8 a shot

I return to my 8 file periodically. I basically murdered 10.been going for a perfect play through on x-2 but it's just such a shitty game I stopped halfway through.

Does Chrono Trigger count?

I hated 8. The draw and junction system was a pain in the ass and I never cared for any of the characters. I don't really count X as a "classic", but I do love it. X-2 I think is okay but I do see why so many people hate it. Rikku didn't have a purpose in the game, Brother was a pervert since he had a thing for his own cousin, no explanation as to why Shuyin looks and sounds like Tidus, and the unwanted changes to blitzball. I count Chrono Trigger among the group since it feels like a FF game.

Because you are looking at it backwards. Tidus looks and sounds like Shuyin. The memory of Shuyin influenced the Fayth to dream of someone just like him.

Well it was made by the same guy. But personally, I call it Final Dragon Fantasy Z.

As much as I would like to count it, CT's mechanics and the whole design of the game is unified in a way that mainline FF doesn't touch, and really, most games involving time travel don't touch. Although FFXIII-2 tried. Really, really hard.

Final Fantasy VII. Grinding AP for my Materia in the last area in the game, enjoying killing magic pots and feeling bad for killing those cute little Movers for about a week now. x.x

Playing through FF5 for the first time, and going to try, and play through 4, and actually finish 6 at some point!

nice, I really liked 5 a lot - hope you enjoy it. I was recapping and commenting on the experience here as I played with a shitload of screenshots. How far along are you?

(also a fan of 4 and 6, since you mentioned them as well)

I probably won't be playing the classic Final Fantasies any time soon. I spent about two years on a massive "replay and review" project. I never finished 2, and I never got 3 (because it didn't exist on anything I had for a while), and I didn't do most of the spin-offs or sequels, except 10-2.

So, I likely won't touch them for a while. (This project also included replaying Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross - which I want to say is still underrated, but I feel like that has become the trendy thing to say where maybe it's at the point that it's accurately rated now.)

I understand people's complaints about 8's drawing system, and it does get tedious. At the same time, You don't really need to spend a ton of time each battle doing it. To me, it was more annoying how frequently battles turned into spamming GFs or Limit Breaks for especially tricky bosses.

6 is still the one that I think of as generally the best overall work.

Playing final fantasy 4 on steam, its like the DS remake, but like I got pretty far and I feel like I should finish it, but because steam deals are so good I picked up final fantasy 9 and I actually started a little bit of it a few days ago. I never beat final fantasy 9 or 4 but I really always wanted to complete 9, so I'm kinda putting a hold on final fantasy 4 and am getting ready for 9, the cinematics and characters and music just draw me in immediately. Final fantasy 4 is great so far too but I dont feel as attached to the dialogue/setting/story as I did with the parts I played with 9 when I owned it awhile ago on playstation.

also I loved final fantasy 8, I'm totally into those sappy romance emo vibes. But yea the leveling up system or "junction" system is really the worst of all the final fantasy's i played. It reminds me of playing ff13 for the short bit i played of that with autobattle, complete snooze.

I think that it was definitely mishandled, but nothing nearly as bad as the ridiculous system that FFII used.
