We're gonna need a bigger boat.

It's taking me a while but I'm still watching this show! We just finished the Shogun Assassination arc and.... well, honestly I deliberately put off this arc for months because a certain Mrs. Jo Nathan spoiled a crucial detail for me and I was too heartbroken to see it come to fruition.

Finally watched it Monday, and I dare say it's one of the best arcs so far. Once it got going, the jokes seemed to disappear almost completely. I think this was the most serious arc yet, and it's my understanding that things are going to continue to get more serious from here on out. And that ending :( The shogun was one of my favorite characters. Even right down to the end, he maintained that graceful, cheerful demeanor that made him so likeable. Also was great to see interactions between Kamui and Kagura again; great to see some more development for Zenzou; great to see a lot more of Gin's history; the arc was just chock-full of great stuff all-around.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on that arc, and the series in general after said arc? Granted, I don't think there are a lot of episodes after this anyway, but I wasn't sure if you followed the manga which I hear has a lot of crazy stuff happening.

I also just learned they're bringing the show back next year, which is awesome. For the first time, I'll actually be caught up with you and watching new episodes as they come out.

I followed the manga up until they announced the new anime that aired a few days ago. Gintama is one of the few anime I absolutely prefer over the manga.

I've said it before to a few people and I'll say it again here. Shogun Assassination Arc is pure fanservice at it's absolute finest, and it's not just senseless fanservice, it's the kind that's been building up since we first got introduced to Takasugi. So many characters meeting and fighting for the first time. It's so great HNNG. The icing on the cake is when just when I thought it couldn't get any better, we get 2 episodes dedicated to Gin's past.

Shogun's fate killed me. Such a likable good hearted character, that at first was just used for comic relief, then became a pivotal side character. :(

On the topic of where the show heads from here. I'm pretty sure now we're in serious mode from here on out. The Shogun Assassination arc leads straight into Goodbye Shinsengumi arc and so on and so on. It doesn't even feel jarring because they've been building on these battles since like ep 5.

I'M GLAD TOO but now it's going to be agonizing having to watch at a weekly pace.

Yeah, I'm definitely getting that impression. The Goodbye Shinsengumi arc was so somber, even startling in some parts. (I can't believe the new shogun killed those two hostesses for nothing!)

The new episode was great. They wasted no time answering some questions I had after the last arc. Really happy to see Aizen Umibouzu finally making a return after I spent most of the series asking where the hell he is whenever crazy stuff is going down. I hope his presence means there's awesome stuff ahead. I hear we'll see more Sakamoto too, which should be enjoyable.
