They gave Yo-Kai Watch 2 a fucking 5.5 but gave some boring ass soccer game, a 9.5! Then again, nobody should ever take IGN seriously. I mean these are the same people that started the "Too much water" meme and think all Call of Duty, Battlefield, Gears of War, and Assassin's Creed games should be rated at least, a 9 or higher. What a joke they are! They even have the fucking nerve to let companies like EA and Craptivision pay them lots of money, just so they can give their "precious" games, a 9 or higher.

They also gave a 9.5 to a racing game. At least that makes sense. Who the hell even plays soccer on a video game console, anyways? You're better off just playing the real sport, outside. Besides, soccer is a boring sport. At least baseball and football make more sense to be adapted into video games, as more people those sports, rather than soccer.

they've always seemed p inconsistent from what I remember. That picture contrasting their reviews of God Hand and Imagine Party Babyz was p classic :J

in all fairness, RSE did have too much water in their overworld, making travel and exploration suck during that portion of the game. It sounds like a silly complaint out of context, but water routes have always been one of the worst parts of Pokémon - encounters possible every step, little variety in what you find (which is usually garbage), all that good stuff.

Literally millions of people...

The problem with pretty much all of these review sites is that they have different people reviewing the games. So they may have someone that would've given Yo-Kai Watch 10/10 but the review went to someone else.

But that's ultimately the issue because you're always going to get a subjective review. I think a good reviewer is someone who outlines all the details and admits when their "complaints" with a game may be subjective. The problem is those are rare to come by.

The other issue is that we all have different standards we apply to different kinds of games. Rating a game of one genre highly while another game of a different genre lower does not necessarily mean one game is "better" than the other. Reviews of individual games are not meant to be compared and contrasted to reviews of other games.

In other words, a synopsis, not a review?

and admits when their "complaints" with a game may be subjective.

Why, though? Subjectivity is inherently implied when you see "Review" at the top in the headline. Additionally, even when they praise something in the game, they'd have to add "but that's subjective." You wouldn't be able to, say, praise a Zelda game for giving player freedom without having to add, "but that's just my opinion." Saying, "The game gives you freedom" might be a fact, but it tells nothing about the quality of the game. A reviewer should be able to explain why freedom in the game makes it either good or bad. That's the entire function of a review.

I don't live in the UK or London, but maybe those games are more popular in Europe than North America.

I don't know how many copies FIFA 2016 and 2017 sold but FIFA 2012 sold 3.2 million copies in the first week. Remember football is the biggest sport in the world.

Personally I'm tired of the series and find the new games quite frustrating as there are too many bugs and inconsistencies, but for a casual gamer it fits the bill.

Oh boy, you don't know the half of it.

My housemates at university would not stop playing FIFA, and would religiously buy the annual sequel on the day of release. They were not really hardcore gamers, so for some of them this is literally all they would play.

This extended to our wider friend groups, and frequently pre-drinking (pregaming) would involve several games of FIFA.

I didn't touch it personally, as I didn't find it appealing, but I perfectly understand how some people obsess over it.

not stocking up on max repels

Having recently played through Platinum, I found myself missing RSE considering the dearth of water routes in Sinnoh. Maybe this is nostalgia, as I haven't played through Emerald in a while, but I enjoyed surfing those routes and exploring the various islands and islets.

yeah and 5% pelipper but the point was that it SUCKS and I'm valuing rhetoric over accuracy for the point of I'm sick of running into either when water is IIRC one of the most common types and yet they're still giving me that runoff three-quarters of the way through the game :\

(wingull itself is a cute li'l duder at least, shoutout to peeko)

Yeah, I don't really get some of the darn reviews. I remember Toonami game reviews gave FFX an 8 out of 10, but they gave a perfect 10 to a freaking Tony Hawk game.

Except Assassin's Creed kind of deserves the hype. Each one is kind a self-containing story while also making sense as a continuing storyline. The worlds are really huge and the realism in them is quite impressive.

well I mean 8/10 is about as high as I'd consider for FFX

Yes I know, you're famous for your "Eh"-ness about FFX.

But you're gonna give it an 8 and give a 10 to a freaking game about skating?!
