The Nostalgia Forum

Where the past still shines

Oh lord I'm looking at the nostalgic icons while typing this already.. heh.

Anyway, the goal of this thread is to get to know each other and see everyone's history with the site.. Perhaps we'll recognize each other's familiar faces?

1. post how and when you discovered Gametalk (whether it was the Mike Pooler days, Daniel's GT, or Xhin's site..
2. What forums you went to, and how long were you here
3. What nic you originally used(if changed)
4. Why you left
5. What are you doing with your life now and if you're posting in GT still or not
6. Do you still play games? If so, what consoles do you own?

You don't have to post these in list format. Paragraph format is fine and you can answer how many of the questions you want!

As for me..

I came here in December 2001, and originally came under the nic called yosouf13, and and have been a regular ever since(outside some breaks). It's amazing that I've been here for 15 years! But also scary.

I accidentally discovered this site and it was the time before I even got a gamecube, but I was reading up info on smash bros melee. I wanted to see how Mewtwo was unlocked and how he played. The first forum I went to was the Smash Bros forum and I believe my first thread was asking what does Mewtwo's Shadowball do(or how it works). I remember GT was so freaking popular back then that we actually had TWO super smash bros forums(one smash bros, the other super smash brothers.. I liked the latter).

Anyway, I had a lot of fun back then. I met some great people and I mostly hung around the smash bros forum, and the Console Wars/GCN Vs Xbox Vs Playstation. I also went to Life Forum every now and then.

I still play games but nearly as much. I go weeks without them. I've only owned Nintendo consoles in my life, because I'm not that big of a gamer to care about owning multiple current gen consoles anyway and I have mostly what I need with Nintendo consoles. I'm also having more responsibiliteis as an adult now to of course. Right now I'm working in bio industry and thinking about studying for master soon. Not married yet, but pushing 30!

1. post how and when you discovered Gametalk (whether it was the Mike Pooler days, Daniel's GT, or Xhin's site..

Searching for a digivolution guide to Digimon World back in 2001.

2. What forums you went to, and how long were you here

Started in the Digimon World forum in 2001, branched out into Jedi Sith sometime later. Was active in Digimon World until the other regs stopped showing up, was active in Jedi Sith right up until it died off on this very site.

Branched out to various parts of the site when GTX0 launched.

3. What nic you originally used(if changed)

Moonraymon (bcus Digimon), then Moonray & Redack... Then on GTX0 exclusively Redack, then swapped back to Moonray.

4. Why you left

I didn't.

5. What are you doing with your life now and if you're posting in GT still or not

For work life: IT Support at a school with roughly 1200 students. Maintain the network, the servers, the computers, etc, etc, deal with any problems people have (forgot password, computer not working, printer not working, etc, etc, etc). It's a very varied job. Some days it can be as simple as just knocking a PC off and back on another day I might be urgently rebuilding a server that died, the next I might be installed new network switches and configuring the ports for VLANs, then I might trying to figure out how the heck the biometric catering system works while the company that installed it tries to be as secretive as possible so that we have to pay them to come out! It's a very varied job and you never really know what each day will hold which makes it more fun even if it can be stressful.

Personal Life: Saving up for a flat/apartment but never anything reasonably priced in the area because, well, rich people like to retire around here and it's a beautiful area. My main hobby is of course gaming so that's what I am up to a lot of the time, but I also read (not as much as I would like these days) or go for walks up one of the many hills in the area (because as noted it is a beautiful area).

GTX0 Life: Having stepped down as an Admin I'm just hanging around, replying to posts that interest me, making posts about stuff that interests me. Occasionally do a stream in Spectator Gaming, usually when Jo asks about a game and wants to see it but sometimes just because I feel like it.

6. Do you still play games? If so, what consoles do you own?

Yes, primarily on PC but I also own a "New 3DS XL", Xbone and a Wii U. I also have emulators for some of the older consoles so I can nostalgically replay games I loved when I was younger or catch up on games I missed (like the entire Gamecube library).

I came here when I was 9 or 10. I was looking for help in Digimon world 3 and I found it. Hung out in pointless and depression a lot. The site went down and every once in a while I would check to see if it came back. Then one day it did.

I just shit post now out of boredom. Sometimes I post something meaningful when it's a topic I actually have interest in. But lately I've just been tossing out words on screen to see what kind of responses I get. (derp) more so no out of boredom as I have nothing to do.

At the moment I'm on summer break and in the fall I'll be finishing up my last year in University. I'm hoping to graduate this spring or late fall with my B.A. in History and will hopefully be studying abroad next fall in Europe or South America.

I currently play on the ps3 and ps vita.

I'm not active during the school sessions but I so check the site every few days.

Found Mike's GT in like 1999, wanting to know how to unlock Ness or whatever in Super Smash Bros for the N64. Stuck around because the people were cool and talking to people from across the globe was a novelty. Over the years I became a reg of Sonic Heroes, Middle-earth, and Harry Potter, while jumping around between a few other forums. Modded DBZ: Budokai 2 (PS2) for a while, wrote some cringey fanfic that people liked. Still remember the day GT went down, thinking "Oh, it'll be back up later tonight". At that age, checking GT was one of the first things I'd do when getting up in the morning - so it was a pretty big deal that it never came back. Found Daniel's site randomly early on (don't remember how), and then migrated over to Xhin's with pretty much everyone else.

I think my nostalgic attachment to that site is long gone, though. It's not the reason I still post here; it's because I like the personalities I've gotten to know over the past so many years.

Nowadays I'm focused on my film course, primarily looking to get into sound design. Still play games (PC mostly), although nowhere near as much as I'd probably like to.

4. Why you left
5. What are you doing with your life now and if you're posting in GT still or not
6. Do you still play games? If so, what consoles do you own?

1. I don't remember. It was during my Freshman year.

2. Jedi Sith and RPG Chat, mainly.

3. I had many names but for RPG Chat it was Princess Cacila Elf and for Jedi Sith: Princess Padme/Nyatha Non.

4. I left to get my life back together and then came back in 2014. I don't post around GT as much as I'd like to anymore.

5. I'm a part-time student at my community college and I work part-time at the Bake Shop. Gaming isn't my main hobby since not a lot of games really interest me. Writing's my main hobby now since I'm trying to write my novel. Finding an agent is going to be tough. I don't want to settle for anything less (Like, just selling my book as an eBook), which is what writers tend to do nowadays. Like I said above, I post less because I have lost interest in GT (now that I have a dog, etc) but I check in to see how everybody is doing.

6. I still play games but not regularly. I'm actually trying to cut down on my console systems because I've been disappointed in a few games and don't want to waste anymore money. I currently own a Wii U and a PS4 and a Vita. May keep my "New" Nintendo 3DS but I'm thinking about it. I don't want my life centered around games. I want to be active (if I can be haha).

1. mike pooler days for a brief time forever ago. A while later (2003 maybe?), I was hanging with friends on the GameFAQs Pokémon boards and someone was like "lol look at this dumb topic" and linked to something on GT. So I showed up to troll a bit, then decided to actually stick around. Became mod, was a regular until it died.

2. mainly Pokémon Gold/Silver, Crystal, and RBY, Smash Bros, and Animal Crossing: Wild World

3. this is the only real name I've used, aside from a couple joke names and "not logging in because I'm not home" variations. Also an impersonation or two from the early days :J

4. didn't; the site died so I hung around with some GT friends on our offsite hangout, eventually GTx0 appeared and we decided to check it out

5. my sacred duty is to maintain a base level of kawaii on this webspace

6. yeah, pretty much everything but an XB1 because I have zero desire to own one

I discovered Gametalk (Mike's) back in 2003 with his Dragonball forum. I used to post fanfics of DBZ in that forum.

2. What forums you went to, and how long were you here

From 2003-2004 I was a reg at the Dragonball forum. I skipped Daniel's forum, and went straight from Gametalk to gtx0.

3. What nic you originally used(if changed)

SSJ Sephiroth and OWA.

4. Why you left

I was too busy playing online games to care about a forum.

5. What are you doing with your life now and if you're posting in GT still or not

Working.

6. Do you still play games? If so, what consoles do you own?

Wii and PC. Wii's softmodded.

1. Mike Pooler days, was looking for tips and exploits for Knights of the Old Republic and later SHenmue 2. Kept bringing me to GT so I got familiar with and fond of the place

2. I started int he KOTOR and Shenmue 2 boards before my fr iend who I invited to the boards convinced me to head to the Anime boards where I met someone I'll never forget and who I'll probably miss for the rest of my days. went to Pointless and started hanging out there got a solid group of friends, than eventually came ot Jedi Sith but left because of bullying until Dark Mistress (one of the mods at the time) posted in one of my threads in Pointless and talked me in to coming back. SPent several years mostly hanging in Jedi Sith and later made my way to the Inuyasha: A Feudal Fairy Tale boards which had a nice little close knit community of its own that I worked my way in to.

4. Because the site went down and Mike had pretty much abandoned it.

5. Part time Day Janitor at a grocery store

6. Xbox 360 and a decent gaming PC mainly.

1) June 2006, though I'm 90% sure I found a forum in a Google Search a year or so before that and passed it by. I'm pretty sure I discovered it in a Google Search, though not sure how. Just stumbled upon it really.

2, 3, 4) Good god - what forums..I started on Pokemon/Pokemon Games/Depression as Weird Occurance, Articuno Lover, and Mew Ruler. Later made my way over to depression as Yuki Eiri, Naruto Next Hokage, and several other names I doubt anyone remembers. I was around frequently enough through 2008 or 2009. I think my activity here slowed down a ton in 2010 thanks to a relationship I was in and the start of college.

5) I graduated college in 2014 with a Computer Science & Philosophy double major. I moved out of my parents' house a month later (they were moving to another state and I didn't want to go, so I got my own place :D) I went through several short-time jobs before getting my current position. I now work in NYC in a technology/finance position. Between that, my social life, my relationship, video games, and trying to make sure I don't lose too much sleep, I don't really find much time to get on here anymore, though I do occasionally lurk and post. I've been on and off the Nostalgia, Life, Pokemon, and Health forums.

6) Of course I still game :D The boyfriend and I just bought a new gaming laptop three months ago just for it. I'm also still very much into Pokemon - so I got my 3DS, of course. I still have all my old consoles and I tend to rotate them out pretty frequently - GameCube, N64, Super Nintendo, PS1, Xbox 360.

1) I think I found it when I used Google or Yahoo to look for help with some video game. I can't remember which one it was, though. Anyway, this was way back when Mike was still running it. I think it was 1998 or 1999?

2) I mostly stuck to the Axem Forum and the Dragon Warrior III forum. Might have visited a few others, though I don't remember.

3) Axem Great Water.
EDIT: I think I used QWERTYUIOASD, or something, for a few months, before finding the Axem Forum.

4) The site went down.

5) Getting my Accounting degree. I mostly just hang out in the Axem Forum, and see if anyone posts anything.

6) Not as much as I used to. I spend most of my time reading. Aside from that, I usually just play my old Gameboy Color, SNES, and PS2 games, though I have a few Xbox 360 games, and some stuff from Steam.

1. Remember very vaguely going into a gamestop as a kid and asking where I could go to get help with games like tips/guides etc. Some employee told me about the site and the rest is history. This site is the reason I am who I am and why I am where I am in life atm. Crazy to think like that!

2. Mostly a pointless scrub though I did the rpgchat for a bit too. Followed my friends to other subs like stranger and others I don't remember but pointless was my home. Joined I want to say like early 2000s- '03 maybe? that sounds about right.

3. Only ones I remember are AngelofSapphire and Tohru-HondaChan or something. Lol I had a bunch though.

4. GT Left me one day and just like that it was a wrap

5. Graduated college, moved across the country and now a full time employee in an office desk job. Living the dream..../sarcasm and no I don't post on GT. Or I guess I do, wait.

6. I play a lot of games but nothing ever sticks like it did before. Games just aren't the same quality or maybe I just realized I've changed. I dunno, maybe a bit of both...

1. post how and when you discovered Gametalk (whether it was the Mike Pooler days, Daniel's GT, or Xhin's site..

It was around 2000-2001 when I first found out about GT. I was probably searching for Pokemon Advice back then. Maybe Smash.

2. What forums you went to, and how long were you here

I posted a little in Silver/Gold/Crystal, migrated to Paper Mario where I met a good bit of friends. Axem craze started there before becoming its own forum. I used to go to the Console Wars forum a bit, but I was really young and a typical Nintendo fanboy who was triggered by the relentlessness of ?huh?, so I didn't last long.

3. What nic you originally used(if changed)

I guess jjkk or AND'J.. AXEM_METAL quickly became my official tag after a few nonsensical ones

4. Why you left

I guess I grew bored. *shrug* I was a teenager with typical teenager desires and experiences for a minute.

5. What are you doing with your life now and if you're posting in GT still or not

PM Assistant for a construction company. I rarely go out anywhere or see older friends, so it's a weird point in life where I actually feel old. I post whenever something catches my eye and isn't political. I've decides to lurk those and judge silently instead.

6. Do you still play games? If so, what consoles do you own?

Overwatch is the new bae. Other than that, I just play whatever I come across. Own all current gen plus PC, 3DS. I mostly play on PC.

I originally found gametalk back on June 16, 2003 on a google search for Mario party 5. I was interested in finding out which mini games that were going to be in the game and how to play them. Of course it was too early then for anyone to know, but I stumbled upon this site and found it to be a nice place to chat on. I then migrated to the melee forum and realized I was way behind in the game on unlocking stages and trophies, so I worked really hard on those, and within a year I unlocked everything. I still play smash bros to this day (on the wiiu and 3ds) and was way into brawl back in 2008 when it came out and I even suggested that they play brawl's music at my high acchool's prom that year. And just like you shadowfoz08, I am a Nintendo fanboy and only own those consoles and handhelds.

1. post how and when you discovered Gametalk (whether it was the Mike Pooler days, Daniel's GT, or Xhin's site..

It was probably around 2000.

2. What forums you went to, and how long were you here

I was there for a few years. I used to Mod the Breath of Fire 3 forum. I frequented pointless a lot too I believe as well as rpg and some others. I was the guy that came up with the trick of using the ascii code to be able to post as anybody. It caused a great mess and the admins actually had to restrict the allowed characters in a name. You might not remember me.. but there's a good chance you remember that fiasco.

3. What nic you originally used(if changed)

I believe it was either this or Syko2300 I don't believe I ever used my nic that became my default goto: Vember.

4. Why you left

Grew bored like others and moved on.

5. What are you doing with your life now and if you're posting in GT still or not

I haven't been posting no.. this is my first in probably over a decade. I am currently in a rough situation in life trying to navigate my way through.

6. Do you still play games? If so, what consoles do you own?

I own no consoles at the moment but I do play some pc games.

1. post how and when you discovered Gametalk (whether it was the Mike Pooler days, Daniel's GT, or Xhin's site..

I was actually a frequent forumgoer at Nick.com's gaming message boards. They had moderators, and the mods had to approve each and every single post, so the system was not instantaneous. But this was back at the turn of the millennium: the thought that there actually is a message board for kids on the internet was a wild concept in and of itself.

Then, someone on those forums private messaged me and referred me to Gametalk.com. They told me it was a gaming site that they thought I might like. Nick's system was posts that were old got deleted forever, so I don't know who that person was and I'll never find out. But I didn't stumble across the site searching on Google, I was personally referred.

2. What forums you went to, and how long were you here

Back in those days I frequented the Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door forum and the GCN Vs. Xbox Vs. PS2 forum. I loved the general gaming forum the most.

3. What nic you originally used(if changed)

Originally I wanted to call myself Marioman, but that name was taken. Then Marioguy was taken as well. So I added the M in-between to snag the name: Mariomguy.

4. Why you left

Uh, you know how it was!

5. What are you doing with your life now and if you're posting in GT still or not

Well, right now I'm a graphics technician working for a good international business that makes computer systems for golf carts. If you go to a golf course and see these boxes on the top near the roof, that's our company. And while I joined late, if you go to the newer courses you'll find a welcome screen: a composition featuring an image of the course and their logo. I made all of the new ones in the western hemisphere (we have a satellite branch handling Europe and the far East).

6. Do you still play games? If so, what consoles do you own?

Not as much as I'd like to. Hardly at all nowadays :(

But I own every Nintendo console except the two most people love: the first NES and the SNES. My SNES broke down and I was eager to use that as an excuse to get an N64, so we tossed it pretty quickly. I also have a PS3 (Little Big Planet, Ratchet and Clank, Flower, nowadays it's just a blu-ray player).

I also have an awesome gaming PC: i7-3770 4.1 Ghz, GTX 960, 12 GB RAM. I did PC game for a while when I was in college and right after. I don't want to say I lost my passion for gaming, but that whole joy about taking a console to a friend's house to play is over now. If I game at all, the most I'll do is Smash Bros. with some people here online. All my friends are in other states, so we can't local multiplayer anymore, and my best college friends have jobs/are married (they're much older than I am)/don't play anymore. One of my friends loves Fallout, but from what I understand that's not multiplayer.

I learned how to make games inside of professional game engines and 3D software, so while in the past I loved tinkering with builder games UE4 has kind of sucked the fun out of it. Making games is HARD, and a long painstaking process that really should be done by a team of at least 7 people: not just one person trying to figure out everything. If I play a game now it will probably have to be something like Mario or Smash Bros. Nothing too lengthy, perhaps why I'm weary of even getting the new Zelda game (previously I would be all for it). The only real time I have is weekends.

1. post how and when you discovered Gametalk (whether it was the Mike Pooler days, Daniel's GT, or Xhin's site..

So I discovered the Mike's GameTalk in 2003 while perusing for tips on LoZ: Wind Waker. I remember finding it on a random google search and replied to someone asking for help on a really easy topic, so ofcourse I made some kind of snarky comment about how he should find a strategy guide. A couple days later I remembered making the comment and wanted to see if he has said anything, so I came back and he said something about how it wasn't in the strategy guides he read. So i looked it up and sure enough it wasn't in there. I decided to help him out and then I made my way to the boxcube forum.

2. What forums you went to, and how long were you here

Mostly the boxcube forum. But I posted in the Zelda and Halo one's as well.

3. What nic you originally used(if changed)

Always used SnakeVenom. Now Q.

4. Why you left

Well, I never left by choice. When I joined the Army in 2007, I was unable to post regularly until summer of 2008 with all the training i was doing. Then there would be periods of time where I would be so busy I wouldn't have time to post.

5. What are you doing with your life now and if you're posting in GT still or not.

Married and working IT at an Electrical Company full-time, Going to college full-time and doing the national guard.

6. Do you still play games?

In between classes and if/when i get sparetime that's not filled with homework.

Mostly been playing Halo and Skyrim SE on X1. But since I have gotten Breath of the Wild on Wii U that's pretty much all I have been playing.

If so, what consoles do you own?

NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, Wii U, GameBoy, GameBoy Color, GB Advance, GB Advance SP, GB Advance Micro, DS Lite, 3DS, 3DS XL, Sega Genesis, 32X, Sega CD, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, PS3 fat, PS3 Slim, PS3 super slim, PS4, PSP, XBOX, XBOX360 Elite, XBOX360 S, and XBOX ONE.

1. post how and when you discovered Gametalk (whether it was the Mike Pooler days, Daniel's GT, or Xhin's site..)

It was some time in the 2004 area, I think. I know it was during Mike's time, because his name came up every time something came crashing down. My brother and I came here with a question about Morrowind (don't remember what it was), and had a grand time chatting with folks on the Morrowind forum (at some point a bunch of us took turns writing a big story, which I still have on my computer somewhere). My bookmark still links me to the Elderscrolls forum, even though it's not on those top links anymore.

2. What forums you went to, and how long were you here

Well, I spent most of my time on the Morrowind forum, and then started looking at other ones - mostly Pointless, but sometimes posting in Art or Depression (if I had something I thought was helpful to say). I'm wanting to say that I visited the site regularly until it went down. Then I'd look for it every three months or so. Now I come back for spurts every couple of months, but often don't bother posting.

3. What nic you originally used(if changed)

I mostly went by TroshLirgg, though on Pointless I used Finrod Felagund.

4. Why you left

The site kinda disappeared...

5. What are you doing with your life now and if you're posting in GT still or not

Well, nowadays I'm married to a lovely lady, graduated college with a degree in Technology and Applied Design, and am working building cheap wooden furniture, because apparently there's a market for it. I'm working on getting myself set up to make much nicer hardwood furniture, but it's hard to run a wood shop out of an apartment. So right now I'm learning as much as I can about running a small business.

I think I answered the other question earlier - I post here on occasion, and lurk more often.

6. Do you still play games? If so, what consoles do you own?

I do still play games, though less frequently as I'm making a solid effort of being a responsible adult. I am and have always been a PC gamer.

I was me, except when I wasn't.

I got into the game industry, and then I stopped.

I ran into Threnody awhile back, he was doing fine. That was a few years now.

Life is life.

1. Post how and when you discovered Gametalk (whether it was the Mike Pooler days, Daniel's GT, or Xhin's site..

I discovered GT back in the Pooler days looking for info on various N64 games. This was during a time when I was obssessed with Banjo Tooie and all the SnS mysteries surrounding (right before all the in-game code was searched). Must've been 2004-05ish?

2. What forums you went to, and how long were you here

Pointless, Life, (any of the 7th gen console forums), Banjo Kazooie, Smash Brothers...

3. What nic you originally used(if changed)

tooie~playa through and through.

4. Why you left

Whenever the original site went down for unforeseeable maintanence (ran out of money?), I was forced to move on. Luckily I've kept in touch with many others as social media got more interesting.

5. What are you doing with your life now and if you're posting in GT still or not

Been through hell and back with a lot of health stuff. Finally earning a degree. I never check here anymore except for the random pop-in (like right now!).

6. Do you still play games? If so, what consoles do you own?

Definitely still in sync with all retro Nintendo consoles; especially handhelds.

Nic was always The Regnant Bellicose. It was good, grammatical fun. Enjoyed it.

How and when? Probably something hedgehog related. 'Round 2003. Were those the Pooler days? No clue.

Frequented Mario vs. Sonic mostly. There were several others, but it's been waaay too long for simple recall. I probably disappeared nearby the advent of gtx0.

I left because of changing interests. Nowhere near the gamer I used to be. Sonic's had a rough ride, too!

My life... Anyone need any stamps? And I'm a raging misanthropist now, I guess. I never post anymore. Gametalk crossed my mind, and I'm leaving my mark on a whim for auld lang syne.

I do watch 'playthroughs' of games sometimes. I'm generally behind on electronics.

Over the last few days I've been lurking more often and looking on the wayback machine and got insanely nostalgic (and depressed) so I'll fill these out:

1. post how and when you discovered Gametalk (whether it was the Mike Pooler days, Daniel's GT, or Xhin's site..

Found the site in the last week of 2003 back in the Mike Pooler days. I had just gotten a Gamecube for xmas and looked up info of Koopa and Purin and found out I already had them. I checked back a few more times and found the site to be filled with pretty good info to ask (I had never posted online). So I stuck around.

2. What forums you went to, and how long were you here

Originally I posted in Star Fox Adventures (until it died a little bit later) then posted on the Super Smash Bros. Melee forum a lot. Posted in Brawl too and pointless occasionally. Almost never used the upper quicklinks except requests and complaints though I now wish that I did because it was so unexplored.

3. What nic you originally used(if changed)

I used "roymasta" for about a month then came up with this one. Found it pretty funny when years later there was someone named "marthmasta" running around in the Smash Bros forums.

4. Why you left

GT would go down often and I would get sad but then it would come back. But then like 2008ish in my senior year it went down forever and never came back (sad!). I don't even remember how but I think weid man had my AIM or something and messaged me about faded enigma while the old gametalk had started and GTX0 was in its early stages. Instead of posting in GTX0 I just stayed in FE for many years. After the middle of 2013 or so I got away from FE and re-found GTX0. I wish original GT stayed around a few more years because the social network boom happened a little bit later and I would like to have kept some people in contact. I have a small hole in my GT heart for those who were lost.

5. What are you doing with your life now and if you're posting in GT still or not

Right now I am job hunting while still living with parents and my wife. We are trying to move out and get a space of our own once I secure a job somewhere. Afterwards I want to see about grad school to get my master's for social work. My GT posting has been less active but within the last year I got back into it. There's less people here and it feels somewhat sad and depressing even though there are still people I've seen here for 14 or so years. I wish there was a way to get good traffic going through here.

6. Do you still play games? If so, what consoles do you own?

I still play games just about every day. Less often than I used to because I'd rather spend time with my wife (or just not ignore her with games), but I play almost nightly for a little bit when she sleeps. I own just about every console except the switch right now, but my PS4 library is extremely little.

1. post how and when you discovered Gametalk (whether it was the Mike Pooler days, Daniel's GT, or Xhin's site..
I believe I go back to the Mike Pooler days, and I've been with every interation of the site. I still remember rediscovering GT when Daniel brought it back after like 2-3 years of it being gone, I was so happy but sad at the same time because nobody was here compared to when I found it. Speaking of that, I found GT for the first time in 2006. I honestly have no memory of how I found the site, I just remember that on my birthday in August, I got my first desktop. I was also a huge gamer so It's likely I was searching for game tips on google then found it in the search engine, I just don't know how else I would've found it.
2. What forums you went to, and how long were you here
I spent most of my time in the pointless forum back in the days where your post would disappear in a few minutes because so many people were using it. Other than that, I poked my head in on other forums (I believe there was one called middle earth, I just can't remember 100%), I checked around on my favorite games and console forums, so that's what I remember there.
3. What nic you originally used(if changed)
I started as Ver18 but I'm pretty sure I ended up using Nique204 as well.
4. Why you left
I didn't, I was here until Mike's site randomly went down. I spent much time waiting for its return with that wait screen, but it just never came back.
5. What are you doing with your life now and if you're posting in GT still or not
I'm in college and actually became a popular YouTuber. I'm working on both of those right now. I still check on GT a few times a month just to make sure its still here. Nobody else seems to be here so I don't post much.
6. Do you still play games? If so, what consoles do you own?
Huge gamer, that's actually a part of my second channel. I play NBA 2K, and a variety of others like Ratchet and clank. Currently have Ps4, switch, Xbox one S, PS3, PS2, PS Vita

Look at threnody’s posting icon picture to the right, fox. Maybe he’s from so cal too.

I’ve known fox forever since 03 and we happen to live two hours apart. We’ve been best friends forever ever since and it wasn’t until 2014 when we decided to meet up, along with however who lives in so cal too. We invite people to my house, our friends mostly, and play smash and Mario kart and all other sorts of multiplayer games. I’ve also known vandy since then too but he lives too far away, but at least he and fox play Xbox a lot, hopefully they’ll play on live together sometime. I’ve also known MSS since 2003 and he has played Xbox a lot with fox and actually flew down to meet him but I wasn’t available them so I didn’t have the chance to hook up with them.

Discovered GT back in summer 2002 - I was just starting console gaming on my own and was struggling to get through a level on Sonic Adventure 2.

I started on SA2, and then followed some folks over to Pointless for a short period of time before hooking up with a group of what I would consider rogue role-players. They had "illegally" taken up residence over in the Obi-Wan (xbox) forum and were doing Star Wars roleplaying. Kept trying to kick us out of the abandoned game forum and we eventually made enough of a fuss as a community for them to give us our own forum 'Jedi Sith'. Around the same time I was RPing over in Middle-Earth.

I started under Sonic_Lover (SA2), and then Sith Kira, Jedi rebel, ~Kira~ (moderator), Kira of Mirkwood, ~Black Rider~. Some alternate names I screwed around with were Palîn, Tiger's Eye, and other names that facilitated RP storylines.

"Left" is a strong word. The fact I'm still haunting this place speaks to that. Growing up I simply lost the time to be able to RP, which was my true love of the place.

I'm a graduate student in Macromolecular Science and Engineering, and will receive my Ph.D next summer. One of the biggest things I've done is go on to be a very active mentor to fellow graduate students, which are skills I truly feel I developed beginning here at GT. As a "master" training so many little Sith apprentices how to role-play and as a moderator making sure people played nice, I developed many strong friendships that went far beyond the forum community and often resulted in discussing real life challenges with people. This was such a unique experience that really shaped me into the person I am today. Every so often I pop my head in to see familiar faces ^_^

I'm still playing games - I'm on Xbox One under Jedirebel90 and I invite anyone to add me. I primarily play Destiny 2 right now, though even lately I'm struggling to find time for :(

1. I discovered GT around 2003...not completely sure of the year, but I had some issue with a Mario game and a friend from school told me about this site.

2. I spent most of my time hanging around a couple of Yu-Gi-Oh Gameboy/Advanced game forums while only rarely posting on other forums, until I eventually took the plunge on Jedi/Sith and got fully hooked for a couple of years.

3. The name I have now is the one I've pretty much always used, on all forums that I've visited on the internet in general (though this was the first place I used it). It was based off a code name a character used in a book I read. Aside from this, I used a few others for different RP characters, most notably The Slayer (which was passworded, so I had to use the I/l trick back then).

4. I left after a couple of years of heavy play on J/S...I don't know if there was anything specific that caused me to leave, aside from me just getting pretty involved in various high school endeavors and not having the time/interest. I also would have been tying up my parents' computer rather than having independent access, so that probably had something to do with it. Aside from that hiatus (after which I returned and again became heavily involved in J/S), I have been around pretty much constantly, with varying levels of activity. I remember the original GT going down, finding Old Gametalk and following J/S through various backup sites that we used before eventually winding up here.

5. I've been working full-time at a consulting firm for the past 4.5 years, after graduating from college with an English degree. I still check in here pretty much on a daily basis, though ever since J/S and Mafia died I hardly ever post (usually in the Entertainment and Music or Pokemon forums). So now it's more of a habit than anything else.

6. I was never much more than a casual gamer, to be honest--probably why I never got super involved here outside of Jedi/Sith. Every once in a while I pick up a game I enjoyed as a child (most often Pokemon, including the newer versions), but I don't typically have the patience for starting up entirely new games and becoming good at them anymore. I own an N64 and a Wii as well as a 3DS, but nowadays I mostly use the consoles only when friends come over and want to play Smash or something.

Personally, I was at Mike's GT in 2006 and I was a regular in Xhin's GT. Around 2010.

I just remembered this site and I wanted to visit it and wow, the changes.

but still the same.

1. Post how and when you discovered Gametalk (whether it was the Mike Pooler days, Daniel's GT, or Xhin's site..

I discovered the website through organic web browsing around 2004 time, so it was Mike Pooler's original Gametalk I set eyes upon. I was a loyal user from 2004-2007.

2. What forums you went to, and how long were you here

Main forums I was actively posting/checking included good old Pointless, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Depression, Health etc.

3. What nic you originally used(if changed)

I used various names, most prominent being The True Oblivion and Ice_Gream_Gal - what an embarrassment lol.

4. Why you left

The website was practically dead and eventually re-branded as GTXO - the excitement and networking aspect had disappeared.

5. What are you doing with your life now and if you're posting in GT still or not

I work in the Military sector, handling data and supporting ex service members and their families in starting a new business. I also have a marketing background.

I am still in contact with moderator Lord Denida via social media.

I got banned from the Pointless forum many times for spamming.

My main circle of GT friends included the likes of Forte Lambardi, Dr_Chips, Tias, DIEKILLDIE etc, I struggle to remember everyone's usernames! :)

6. Do you still play games? If so, what consoles do you own?

Yes, I am still in my comfort zone of RPG's, particulary Square-Enix.

I own a PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4 and XBOX Elite.

:)

1. post how and when you discovered Gametalk (whether it was the Mike Pooler days, Daniel's GT, or Xhin's site..
I guess around 2004-05 I discovered GT through my brother. Continued coming here for a long time after. Good ol' Mike's GT.
2. What forums you went to, and how long were you here
I frequented Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories for the longest time, followed by Pointless and RPG Chat.
3. What nic you originally used(if changed)
Inferno35, Dark Seth. There were probably more, I was a dumb kid always trying to start something, sometimes by use of other alias'.
4. Why you left
Mike's GT shut down. Others tried to reinvent GT, but nothing will ever truly compare to Mike's GT. Though I admire and appreciate those who tried to revive it. I created a website of my own that became somewhat popular with older GT frequents. Well, I say created but it was through the use of proboards I think? a website generator. Anyways I ran that as well as admin'd another website that was fairly popular. Kept trying to keep socializing alive with my friends from GT. Eventually everyone just got busy with their own lives, myself included.
5. What are you doing with your life now and if you're posting in GT still or not
This is probably my first time around in years. I have a career and found other things to occupy my time, I don't really use a computer much anymore despite my past. I spend my time mostly doing outdoor stuff, though I do still play video games sometimes.
6. Do you still play games? If so, what consoles do you own?
I pick up a PS4 controller every now and again to play a re-release of a Final Fantasy or to play Fortnite or Destiny 2. Thats about it, honestly.

1. I stumbled upon the site whilst googling a cheat to unlock Vegito in Dragon Ball Z: Buu's fury on GBA when I was about 11 - that would have been 2004, about five years before the demise of the Pooler era.

2. I frequented Metroid Fusion (I have been trying my darndest to track down Dark_Ridley from that forum - I had him on Myspace but the trail goes cold after that. He was a great dude.) as well as Super Mario 64 ds, Buu's Fury for a time until it died down. I used the activity of that forum as a yardstick by which to gauge the activity of the whole site, so i'm sure you can imagine once I found Pointless and a few others it was an absolute revelation and I became obsessed with the forum because it actually had people. I made friends on there but wouldn't have a clue what they're doing now. I also went on the dragonball forum, tried my luck at a few others like Yoshi's Island, the Gamecube forum, but some were pretty quiet by the time I got to them.

3. originally I was known as a_chocolate but I didn't use a password, someone who went by the name of coi50 stole my username and wouldn't give it back, and I got banned by Denida for getting angry at him. That was my first experience with what is now a widely experienced level of cruelty that the internet makes it possible to carry out. After that I was chocco, el chocco, a few others, which people had started calling me anyway. Doubt anyone would remember either one so I didn't bother using them when I came back.

4. Truthfully, Mike's GT going down put a dampener on what was pretty habitual visiting on my part. I waited years for something else to come up, and didn't know about gtx0 until fairly recently, maybe five years ago. I gave gtx0 a go (evidently i still am) but it felt eerie to me that this clone site didn't have the same people. Seeing the same website but with just far less people was too much to bear when I was a teenager. I still remember Eagle and SOH but whether they'd remember me is another question altogether. I miss a lot of people from those days and it hurt to be here without them, so I just kind of let it go.
Nowadays I value the community more than ever as it is, even if I only fleetingly visit under a new username each time.

5. I'm a programmer now! I build backend systems/APIs in Ruby. I play in a couple of bands as well. Would be very curious to know what was used to build this site.

6. Recently I've gotten back from Japan (played a tour with our bandmate over there who grew up in Okayama and studied in Sydney for a year and played drums with us) and while I was there I visited three of the Super Potato stores and picked up Japanese copies of pokemon Leafgreen, Metroid: Zero Mission, Megaman Battle Network 3, Sonic Advance 2 and 3 and an OG copy of Pokemon Green. I stuck with GBA because I knew it wasn't region locked. I've been working my way through those but my reading is limited somewhat so I bought games that either featured little dialogue (sonic) or games for which i already knew the story (pokemon). So the GBA titles have experienced somewhat of a renaissance. As for current gen i've been playing fallout, master chief collection, the crash bandicoot remakes, overwatch on PC, paper mario and a heap of other stuff on my 3ds. still going strong i think.

TL:DR; wiiu, xbone, ps4, 3ds.
