I'm all for the XFL existing, but you'll have to color me suspicious that it will ever supplant the NFL, or even really be competitive. Do they say when in the year they plan to hold their seasons? Are they going to do it in the spring?

I also didn't realize that McMahon was planning to own all the teams, which already makes me incredibly suspicious that this league can exist long-term. He's going to have to give up total control at some point.

As for the Arena Football League, isn't it still going?

I hunk but it’s not broadcasted on prime time tv like it was at the turn of the century. I don’t know what station it’s on hdtv, do you know which one it’s on?

Don't know. I haven't actually seen a game in a while, but I had friends attend a game last year, if memory serves (time is weird in my brain lately), which is why I thought the AFL still existed.

Did anyone actually watch or enjoy XFL when it was around before?

I kinda enjoyed it for a little while. The football was clearly inferior, but there was something kind of entertaining about letting players have a little more creative freedom. Which, ya know, is exactly what Vince McMahon went out of his way to say this XFL won't have. So if all we're getting is an inferior product with less talent and without the one element that made the former XFL vaguely entertaining, I'm not quite sure how this will work. I suspect that specifically talking politics will earn him a more conservative fanbase, and maaaaybe that's enough to keep it propped up for a little bit?

People have been freaking out about the NFL's ratings all year, and now they've decided what we need is more football? Weird timing for this. I don't mind, honestly, as I do enjoy football, but I'd be surprised if this were especially successful.

Did they say what time of year they'll play their season?

I liked watching the xfl when it excited 17 years ago. Remember that two of its players committed to declare to run for the nfl draft that year (tommy Maddox and Jose Cortez) and both of them got drafted and performed very well in the nfl as they did in the xfl.
