It's pretty common to compare shows to one another, and to compare seasons of one show to one another, but I haven't really seen individual seasons compared between shows very often. So here's the question: what TV show seasons do you think are your favorite individual seasons of TV ever?

Keeping it to four for now (to fit the "Mount Rushmore" theme), here's where I think I'm at:

The Wire Season 4
Friday Night Lights Season 1
Veronica Mars Season 1
Firefly

It's really hard to limit it to just four, and there are about a half-dozen seasons or maybe more that I could see swapping in. Kinda cool that some of these shows wouldn't make my own top 5, but they make this list because of one individually great season.

Breaking Bad Season 5.

Narcos Season 2.

True Detective Season 1.

shout out to season 5 or 6 of how I met your mother (the season where Barney gets the most growth as a character) and Supernatural season 5-6 (not sure which one brings Angels/ Dean back from the dead)

Arrested Development Season 3

Dexter Season 4

Breaking Bad Season 5

Seinfeld Season 9 (if I could, my Mt. Rushmore would be just 4 seasons of this show)

The Nora era. That was the first time since shannon were he had feelings for some one. They also introduce his dad for the first time.

And I agree bout seinfeld lol. I think I might get Hulu just to watch the show again since netflix is lacking in interesting stuff.

I liked Nora. One thing that always bothered me about HIMYM was that the main 3 single characters get with other people who are so pleasant or great and then they just break it off with that person, sometimes in some sad ways. Ted had many but especially Victoria, Robin had Kevin (Jesus Christ this one hurt), and Barney had Nora. Some episodes just hit damn hard too.

I bought all the seasons of Seinfeld on DVD before the big streaming service thing started just so I could watch them all whenever. The last season just happened to have my 2 favorite episodes.

which are?

I know people hate the Puerto Rico day episode but I find it to be hilarious.

I can understand Teds reservations about Victoria. Initially he couldnt see the various flaws she had because she was so dumbstruck with Love. They are addressed when she returns. I do agree with Barney and Robin though. But honestly I feel that Kevin and Nora could have done much better. Robin imo is an extremely shallow character. Barney though.... I really liked Barney and whats interesting is that all of these episodes/ stories are told by Ted who is still trying to get with Robin. So naturally he paints Barney to be a sexual predator and a shitty guy.

Its a shame that the writers had him unlearn all the goddam lessons he learned through out the show.

I find that one to be pretty funny too. It just never airs on TV and it feels weird for a Seinfeld episode to be almost purely outside I guess.

Also it turns out I was wrong, my favorite episode (The Kenny Roger's Roaster one is in the previous season. But it does have my next two The Merv Griffin Show episode and The Slicer. The Frogger is also a good one.

Oh man those are classic episodes. I love the Marine Biologist episode and the Soup Nazi one. Both are adored by fans. The funniest one for me is the Communist episode and the one with the potential merger of Elaine's bosses company.

The parents of the characters are the goddam highlights of the show. Franks Korean War flashbacks get me every goddam time lol.

Breaking Bad Season 5 was definitely on my shortlist! Could have easily made my four--I still think that's the only show I've watched that legitimately got better every season it was on.

I think the Supernatural season you're talking about was S4, SOH.

As much as I loved HIMYM (well, most of it--don't talk to me about the last season!), I'm not even sure which season was my favorite. They honestly blend together a ton in my mind because I've seen individual episodes so much, and I only watched the full show once.

Ooof. Definitely tough... Also tricky because it's tough to remember older show. Older seasons sort of just blur as "the show" overall. (I do this with Community a lot - I was so sure MeowBeanz was in season 2, but it was in season 5.) So there is likely recency bias in mine.

The Wire - season 4

Community - season 2

Lady Dynamite - season 2

Atlanta - season 1

Season 2 of The 100 in mount weather was some really good sci fi and espionage. I love the whole series though.

I watch the series every couple of years.

    Babylon 5 - Season 4

This one is a little unfair because the whole show was just amazing, but Season 4 was the culmination of everything that came before. All of the plotlines had been building to the very satisfying conclusions we got in this season.

    Once Upon a Time - Season 1

I absolutely loved this show during Season 1. There was a lot of mystery, really interesting character moments and overall just a great story. While I still watch the show, I really believe the first Season 1 was the best.

    Farscape - Season 2

For me this was the best season of the show. The first one started off a little unsure of itself and the following seasons just never seemed to match what Season 2 did.

Band of Brothers was fantastic and also on my shortlist. Just a fantastic miniseries, that one (its sister show The Pacific was a little bit worse, but still well worth watching). I also thought about Babylon 5, but it's hard for me to pick a favorite season of that one (it might have been 3 for me). Farscape is a show I've heard a lot of great things about, but I've never gotten around to watching it (partially because I don't have easy access to it).

It feels like the vast majority of those who watched and enjoyed The Wire will have Season 4 as their favorite. Funny how some critical favorites like The Sopranos have little to no agreement on which seasons were the best, while The Wire has probably one of the stronger consensuses out there.

Yea I mean, season 1 is in my opinion the obvious candidate for "weakest" of the seasons (but that's not to say it was bad, it's just the others were better then it) but between the rest I do struggle. As I said it's mainly because season 4 brings everything together that I like it the most.

I was lucky in that they started re-airing it on UK tv at a time when I was looking for something new to watch. Definitely worth catching if you ever find a way to.

I loved Farscape when I was younger. Haven't revisited it really, so I don't know if it stands up, though.

I sometimes have a hard time declaring definitively the best season of The Wire because I think all the seasons are great (I'm apparently in the minority that thinks season two is really, really great also - although I think most understand season five as the overall weakest). But it's season 4 over 3 and 1 by the narrowest of margins.

I wasn't a huge fan of Season 5, either. But 2-3-4 are all classics and it's hard for me to choose.

I also think Season 2 is great! Just not quite as great as 1, 3, and 4--really only 5 falls short of excellence for me, though it has very strong points as well. I suspect the majority of fans would put 4>3>1>2>5, though there's a very slim margin between the top three for me as well (Season 3 could easily have made my Mt. Rushmore alongside 4).

Yea 5 was definitely weaker after the previous seasons. Apparently it's because they weren't expecting to get renewed so they concluded the storylines earlier than planned (the earth civil war would've run into season 5).

But Season 5 had some really emotional stuff like the tragic end to Londo's story arc so I rate it higher than season 1.

Parks and Recreation - Season 3 (The Harvest Festival)

Parks and Rec in its PRIME: the writers have fixed all the issues with the characters from Season 1, and the storyline is more intense. The relationship between Leslie and Ben grows, and the background theme of government shutdowns was very timely. The Harvest Festival, in many ways, captures the spirit of Americans during that time: in the face of adversity, we wanted to persevere. The silly, zany humor of this show was in its peak during this season.

    The Simpsons - Season 4

Kamp Krusty. A Streetcar Named Marge. Mr. Plow. Marge Vs. The Monorail. Selma's Choice. Brother From The Same Planet. Last Exit to Springfield. Yes, all of these great, classic episodes that bore us wild children running a summer camp, Marge lunging towards someone with a bottle by pretending he's her husband, the monorail (The song, "I call this one Bitey," the torn up street), the affably dumb Mr. Plow song, Bart picturing his father melting, DENTAL PLAN... was all from this season. ALL of it, from just a few episodes in this season. Man, the Simpsons had so many great episodes, one after the other, and it's hard to pick a single season out of the first 8, but I really think the show peaked at 4. Just the right balance of humor, satire, and serious drama.

The Legend of Korra: Season 3 (Change, The Red Lotus, and Zaheer)

Korra was an interesting show for a couple reasons. It was only supposed to be one season, but the show was renewed for FOUR. The first season introduced the world and brought us the Equalist arc with Amon. The second season introduced the Avatar lineage and Vatuu. While that was a good season, I felt the peak of this show was Season 3. Zaheer was a great villain, mainly because he was not the wild and crazy villain you'd expect from the other plots (Amon's rebellious leader, someone's betrayal to evil, or the next season's dictator), but rather a philosophical antithesis. He believed the world with all its fighting, rebellion, and anarchy would be perfectly capable of sorting things out on its own without the need of an Avatar or physical authority to suppress the populous. The spirit world's crazy effects on reality made this season seem much more enigmatic than usual for Korra, and the drama built to a tee. The fourth season just overdid it.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - Season 2

Season 2 was a season of quality. The first season's weirdness didn't completely end, but it did taper off here, and the world expanded greatly. Most of the characters learned their lessons for the first time here, so we got to see some more raw performances. Season 3 was cut short and awkwardly with the no-longer-a-spoiler coronation of Twilight, and sure, there are even more outstanding episodes in later seasons, but this is the season that most remember fondly as the backbone of the show. The writing here was quite pure. Capped off with a stunning season finale, this is the season where the show exploded and stole the internet.

Batman the Animated Series - Season 1

Those first few episodes were so incredibly remarkable I can't understand why the entire show didn't continue it. Sure, the animation was off-model, and the acting over-the-top, but it felt exactly like those old, dramatic Hollywood movies of the era Batman was bred from. Don't get me wrong, season 2 was great, but by season 3 the Joker changed dramatically and a lot went south. As the show went on, I longed for those first few episodes even more, and even the writers agreed. Just take a look at Poison Ivy's first meeting with Batman in the third episode of the show!

I actually had considered ATLA Season 2 as part of my list along with Korra S3. Both excellent seasons of TV.

Yea 5 was definitely weaker after the previous seasons. Apparently it's because they weren't expecting to get renewed so they concluded the storylines earlier than planned (the earth civil war would've run into season 5).

Yeah, I heard that. That's also why I think I probably rate 3 above 4, because parts of 4 felt pretty rushed to me, though it was obviously still great.
