Hi Xhin,

Just wanted to say thank you for doing your best to bring back gametalk.com. I just stumbled across this site today and see that you did a pretty good job trying to revive it.

From your threads here over the years it's pretty clear that you wanted to make this site just as great as the original gametalk was, and I think that's pretty cool.

I would also like to point out that although an identical replica of the old GT obviously wouldn't do very well today (as websites have changed drastically since the days of GT) there is one important aspect that was present on the old GT which seems like it got a bit lost on this site.

That would be, the simplicity factor. Anyone, and I mean ANYONE, could use the old GT. I think while you've captured much of the design of the old GT, I do see alot of new extra stuff. However, with all these extra add-ons and improvements you've made (while some may be entirely useful) I think they may actually take away from the core simplicity of what the old gametalk was.

As a web developer myself, I totally understand the desire to continually improve things, and make them better and with new features. However, overall user interface and user experience is going to be much more important than any add-on features that can be added.

I think if you're looking to boost users making the layout responsive would definitely help, as well as using the footer to display individual game forums like the old Gametalk had. New users will mostly come for the game forums, which I have yet to come across on this site.

Thanks again for bringing back GameTalk though. I can definitely see you've put a lot of hard work into this site, and it's definitely appreciated.

because they were killed and it's not really gametalk, just a site with one forum to discuss games

Be that as it may, the site would probably be better if that wasn't the focus.

I would love for there to be game forums. I pushed for them pretty hard and tried to direct people to them when it seemed relevant to a particular game. But the majority of the site would not use them because they felt that the only place to be noticed was boxcube.

Now even boxcube struggles to maintain activity, so it's really unlikely that adding game forums at this point would boost activity.

Totally agree with that statement. I have said many times before how there are more topics made about politics or religion than there are about video games, and this is a website about video games. Occasionally I will respond to topics that are not video game related, but I try to respond to most topics that are posted int he video games forum.

This is a problem with the userbase, not the number of games forums. You guys just really like non-games topics, so the forums on the quicklinks are going to reflect that.

The OP's point about intuitive interfaces is noted. Ceta made a very large post about this recently, mariom has made the point many times, even clarkey back in the day. The issue is that the site files have become a tangled maze of function and style with hacks working around exceptions working around unintentional bugs. My best strategy is to burn it all down and replace it with something sane (I really like the way NIFE is built, I'd rebuild gtx0 like that), however that's a problem when the site is being used in the meantime. Also some of the issues run deeeep, into the database itself. There's also a time issue -- as much as I'd like to totally revamp -- everything -- whatsoever -- my efforts are better spent making what we have usable and focusing on getting new people. Yes, I realize I've been saying that for years now. There's really nothing I can say that will make that more credible, so I'm just going to keep doing things and planning things and hopefully by the end of 2018 things will make more sense.

Which is why when and if we get new people I think they should be here for topics not related to politics or religion. How to make that happen idk, but gtx0 really shouldn't be just another place for politics or religion.

The problem with that is that you can't dictate what people come here for. If they come here for vidya enough that the traffic of VGND is clogged up, then yeah, make more video game forums. There is not enough traffic justifying that right now, but if there was, so be it.

You CAN advertise primarily to a certain demographic however.

True.

What demographic though? The OG GT was composed of individuals of all ages and if what was written on staff/TGT profiles was true, from all over the world.

I can see this as a hub for 18-30 year olds.

Really, what it comes down to are the users here. We need to put an emphasis on talking about games and possibly movies. It is very well possible that people who have never been to this site before do come here looking to discuss games and find other topics instead, so they move on to other websites.

If everyone here discussed games and movies instead of politics and religion then maybe we would attract new users who would want to stick around, and in turn would discuss games as well. This could lead to an increase in traffic and would then make sense to create forums for specific games like in the past.

I'm not saying that politics and religion should never be discussed, but I think it should only be when it is related to video games.

People who like video games and stuff over politics and religion probably. Demographic doesn't just mean things like what age they are.

Posted July 20th by KnokkelMillennium

At least I think it fits loosely. If it doesn't oh well. No better word was coming to me and I just remembered wrong.

That's hard to imagine.

Though I will admit the discussion about Stormcloaks versus Imperials in the World forum was a very good discussion.
