TOKYO (Aug 24): Nintendo Co added another US$3 billion in market value in Tokyo today with retail investors on the Robinhood app cited as helping further boost the game maker's popularity.

Today's gains also followed a report in the Taipei-based Economic Daily News that Nintendo might launch a new version of its Switch console early next year, citing unidentified people in the supply chain. A more powerful version of the console has been rumoured in the past.

Investors and gamers alike are still waiting for Nintendo to reveal its slate of games for the rest of the year, with only Pikmin 3 Deluxe, a remake of a seven-year-old Wii U title, set for release in 2020. David Gibson, chief investment adviser at Astris Advisory Japan, said in a tweet last week that he hoped the company would hold one of its "Nintendo Direct" online presentations to announce new titles before a management briefing scheduled for Sept 16.

Ace Research Institute analyst Hideki Yasuda. Yasuda is predicting a minimum of 23 million Switch units sold this year, well above Nintendo's own forecast of 19 million.

[UPDATE] According to VGC, the same source also mentions the new switch will have upgraded interactivity, improved display quality, and will enter production later this year

Tldr: Got this from resetera. I'd consider it as a rumor for now, but it's gaining traction.

Now Bloomberg is on it, and are claiming it might have 4k graphics. Lol
Nintendo Co. plans to debut an upgraded model of its Switch console next year along with a lineup of new games, people familiar with the matter said, ceding 2020’s holiday spotlight to rival devices from Sony Corp. and Microsoft Corp.

The specifications of the new machine have yet to be finalized, though the Kyoto-based company has looked into including more computing power and 4K high-definition graphics, people briefed on the strategy told Bloomberg News, asking not to be identified because it’s private.

The release of the upgraded Switch would be coupled with, or followed by, a slew of games from Nintendo itself and related outside studios, the people said. Those games would address a wide range of players, from casual gamers seeking small doses of escapism to more devoted fans putting in marathon gaming sessions. The focus on next year’s pipeline explains Nintendo’s relatively quiet software release schedule so far this year, the people said.

If this is true, Nintendo's first 4K console will actually be a handheld :\

So, what if it is?

And if the rumors are true, likely not on handheld mode. Nintendo will still run the hybrid console design.

They could actually use DLSS on an 8nm chip that is 2-4x more powerful than the tx1 to achieve that, since PS4 pro specs on a handheld console is probably not going to be ready for a few more years
