The least expensive smash bros switch console pre-order on ebay from a canadian seller right now is 950 CAD. To put this in perspective, a non-special edition switch console sells for 380 dollars plus tax, so it's a ludicrous price hike fueled by pure greed.

What I am planning to do is list the consoles for much cheaper, say 750.00, which will appear to these sellers to be competition. If anyone buys my consoles, which don't exist, I'll just wait a couple weeks and then refund them. But my goal here is that by seeing much cheaper consoles on ebay, these greedy bastards will lower their own prices. Then, I'll make a new ebay account and buy one for 750 from them instead of 950.

Do you think it will work? And who is being the bigger dick? Me or them? Because it's really their fault that I couldn't buy one at the regular price.

It might work but Kind of sounds illegal to me. I haven’t tried to sell anything on eBay in a very long time.

It'll probably piss of those who think they're nabbing a "good" deal (really just a better deal). It would be more effective if you could get dozens of people to list it for less instead of being one person.

I think the better course of action is to discourage others from buying the consoles and condemn those who inflate the prices. This is why I never bother with special editions for Nintendo things, it all gets nabbed and price-hiked, sometimes even within. Hell, employees alone price-hiked Nuka-Cola when Fallout 4 was being released.

It would certainly get the account used banned from ebay (and if they were able to link you to any other accounts then those too probably). I also suspect that other sellers would quickly realise something was amiss when you couldn't fulfil the sale.

I also suspect that one person selling a switch at that price wouldn't be enough to affect the price everyone else was listing at.

It also probably is illegal like Q said.

Why exactly does it have to be a canadian seller? I'm seeing listings like this that originate in the US but ship worldwide:

$600 CAD:

I'm not sure you'd be doing anything 'illegal' with your plan, but it definitely violates ebay's TOS so when they catch on they'll likely ban your account. You're also going to be screwing other people over in the process as you tie their money up for two weeks on a product you never intend to deliver.

And like Moonray said, one or even a few listings at a lower price aren't going to have any effect on the market.

There are only two people that I know of in Canada selling Smash and Pokemon themed switch preorders on ebay. One for 1000 and one for 950. The 950 guy is obviously undercutting the 1000 guy so I suspect he will panic if he sees 750.

That's the most selfish plan I've heard all year. It maybe accomplishes what you want and defintely fucks up at least one (and probably more) people in the process.

Why are you so insistent on using a Canadian seller when they're blatantly gouging? What's wrong with the $600 CAD one I linked that says it will ship from the US to Canada?

Posted September 24th by Count Dooku

Because import fees and shipping fees are retarded from the US and I can dodge them this way.

Maybe it's worth considering just getting a regular Nintendo Switch?

At the end of the day limited editions are built exactly for this kind of "I really need it" mentality (I would know, I often fall for it) and if you can't get one to start with you either have to accept you won't get it or pay the extra price on ebay.

I know this is an evil plan. But so is scalping to begin with. This isn't the first time I have fucked over a scalper. I made one guy drive 2 hours because he was selling his Xbox one for 800 bucks when they were scarce. He was so pissed he threatened to sue. It was comedy gold.

So says the person planning to deceive innocent people in hopes of tricking a couple of sellers into reducing their price?

This one promises "No additional import charges at delivery" and seems to be around your price range:

But at this point I'm not sure why you even want to pay this much for some decals. I refuse to pay full price for a 'normal' switch, which is why I still don't have one!

Edited September 24th by Count Dooku

Your plan Sounds like profiteering which is illegal iirc

I am not depriving anyone of anything though. I didn't buy bucket loads of consoles to flip for exorbitant prices. The people I am victimizing aren't losing out. In fact they may actually benefit from this. Why? Because the people with the real consoles will lower their prices and after I "screw over" my buyers they will still ultimately be able to buy one cheaper than if I had done nothing.

Justify it however you want to make yourself feel better but it's still morally wrong. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Not to mention the moment they realise you're not a legit seller, which they would, your plan collapses and any good you believe you'd be doing would be undone anyway.

Posted September 24th by Moonray

Of course it's morally wrong. But I don't feel bad stealing from thieves.

Not if they end up getting a better deal as a result. Not all heroes have capes you know.

If even one person wins against a scalper as a result then it's a victory morally imo.

Depends. Do you consider The Punisher a superhero? And yes, that's the direction this thread is going now. What do you consider an everyday hero?

No. At best he's an anti-hero. At worst he's a criminal.

In this country the minute you take their money knowing that you don't have the product, you've committed Fraud

You're only looking to put a very small temporary dent in the problem anyway. If you want to actually be moral and you want to make things fair you can start by crushing capitalism, comrade. (dapperfrog)

Guarantee that courts won't make that distinction.

Technicalities won't help, really.

Posted September 24th by Fox Forever

Unfortunately the only legal effective way to counter the scalpers would be to buy as many switches as you could and sell them at a lower price than the other sellers. Good luck on that though.

The Punisher is a superhero, he's just not acting within the ethical limitations of modern society. The word "superhero" is more complicated than most people think - and it has more to do with the format of the character than their ethical standing.

I can make a thread about it if people are interested.

Posted September 24th by Cruinn-Annuin

Also, before anyone cites this thread in future conversations with me. Thinking up a scheme and discussing it doesn't make me a bad person if I don't go through with it. I was curious what the consensus would be and I appreciate your input.
