Damn, they’re shutting off AIM in a few days. We all used to chop it up on there. Side chats going while we were posting. I had like three different screen names all linked together. The 2000’s were lit. RIP!

Hope everyone is doing well.

Also I went back through all of my posts on here back to 2013, and I’ve been thinking about the old GT as well. I gotta apologize for being such a dick. I’m an asshole 100% but I’m usually a little more tactful, subtle, and hilarious with my humor. The shit I used to post was just dumb.

What's good bro.

I remember you being funny and having an attitude, definitely wouldn't say you were an asshole. Plenty of worse people here.

Man, it's pretty mind-blowing that Instant Messengers like AIM and YIM are going out of style. I am not sure if YIM is being decommissioned, but I am pretty sure it hasn't been updated in awhile.

Weird thing is, I didn't even start using IMs till at least 2006 when I started using Meebo. Feels like I was so late to the game, especially in terms of GT.

Ye, bunch of sad pretentious beta manlets are assholes because they got nothing better to do. Just laugh at their absurdity.

Wasn't being serious since I have reason to believe some people couldn't tell. Nor were the other threads where I talked like that serious

And despite being an utter and complete asshole, you were still one of my favorite people :)

Eh, a lot of it was just mean spirited. I’ve always been an east coast in your face blunt kind of guy, but that shit was just mean to be mean. I think I’ve always had a chip on my shoulder because I’ve never gotten the respect that I felt I deserved on here, but that’s because I didn’t deserve any lol. I was a mediocre role player at best and I lost interest in everything so quickly. I’ve learned what leadership and follow through actually mean now. And I didn’t have any of that back in the day. I certainly don’t deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as Kira, or any of those other oldies like Skor, Malas, Azoth, Fenrir, and Sreeya. But hopefully I can get to a point where I’m at least remembered for being around through the golden ages.

Cheers everybody. Happy New Years!

Noticed you didn't list any Jedi there...

That's because none of the Jedi were interesting--oh, wait.

I basically only used AIM for J/S conversations, so it definitely is associated with this site for me!

At least Jedi isn't an anagram for "Shit".

Speaking of AIM and Rumblefist, I remember a conversation we had on AIM where he told me he was never actually trained. Just made the character and gave him fireball powers (no idea how that was allowed come to think of it).

Stuff overlooked in the early days... plus, clearly somebody somewhere had to be untrained to train other people.

A lot of the oldies got away with things like that because we all knew each other’s alts. Training was honestly more to get people accustomed to our role play rules later on. :p my generation was probably the first to really care about training, though I was a second generation apprentice (master TK/Kain had been trained by an original I think). My generation basically started using training as a form of forum indoctrination- it was during the time when we finally got our own forum and stopped being rogues on abandoned boards.

I must have completely missed out on this because I didn't use AIM. To my knowledge, we only used forum boards when GT was down.

I thought she meant abandoned GT boards like the Obi-Wan forum or whatever it was you guys used before J/S became its own forum.

Ohhhh. I thought we just kind of made that the forum's secondary purpose until it died off, but thankfully Mike realized the Star Wars RP side of it had too big of a following to leave without a home.

No, I remember a number of us got bans for a short period of time because we were using the forum for "off-topic posts". Then we all made a big enough ruckus that they realized it was kinda dumb to ban us simply because they hadn't given us a home to begin with :-p It was around the same time middle-earth came into existence, and many of us were RPing over there too so it was a logical extension to create a new forum.

I feel like this is a safe time to confess none of my characters ever finished training... A couple started it as a token gesture but never actually finished and no one noticed so I just pretended.

Wow, what a cheater, Redack. Then again, is anyone surprised? :P

Sometimes I forget that this place filled up several pages of threads a day when I first joined, and you basically finished all of your RPs on the same day. Pretty easy for things to slip through the cracks when the forum's like that!

I move that we retroactively expunge Redack's IC existence, and also suggest an IP ban of the user.

That's an interesting bit of history I missed. I think came in August 2002 or so, and of course Jedi Sith was made like two months later, so I am guessing they came to their senses by the time I dropped in.

It was insane. Sometimes a brand new thread would fall off of the front page on the same day, in a matter of hours.

Pfft, like we ever needed a reason to ban and expunge Redack!

In some cases it wasn't for a lack of trying. Towards the end of origional GT most of the other UK folk had left so it became difficult to match times that were convenient.

Personally, I never cared. It seemed more like a rite of passage to make sure the player wasn't a noob and also couldn't constantly pull characters out of their butts.

The weird thing is that it didn't seem insane back then--it just seemed normal! Of course, a lot (but not all) of the RPing at that point was basically ~sits on a rock looking sad~, so it makes sense that RPs went by so quickly.

And yeah, training was definitely better focused on complete newbs than on regulars with new characters. After my first one, I was a lot more focused on the character elements of training (e.g. how my character's relationship with their master shaped them) than on the actual learning part.

I had one that I never bothered training. But most of my alts went through it- usually because they were Jedi I was using as an infiltration method...a new person showing up asking to be trained is much less threatening and begs fewer questions than random Jedi x showing up claiming to have been trained by long lost Jedi master y

I preferred to get other people's characters to be moles/spies/infiltrators rather than make my own. Always felt it was more interesting for all involved that way. Or if I was going to do it myself I'd try to get people to believe Redack had reason to be "trusted"... The latter method obviously became less effective the more I did it but worked surprisingly more often that it should have :P

Whenever I made a new character it was always because I wanted it to be a new character with their own story. The idea of them all just being puppets for a main character wouldn't appeal to me.
