Quicklinks Update

A few changes here:

  • The quicklinks are visible by default now

  • Removed the "forums" link in the top bar, because it's pointless

  • Removed the "favorites" link in the top bar, because it's pointless

  • Everything on the quicklinks with the exception of site forums or the NIFE stuff have been merged into 8 forums:

  • Video Games News & Discussion -- all games forums pretty much

  • Politics & Religion -- World + Spirituality

  • General -- Real Life, Pointless, and Drunjk

  • Entertainment & Media -- Entertainment/Music, Animated/Japanese, Creative Outlet

  • Roleplaying -- RPG chat's new name

  • Science/Math/Technology -- no change

  • The Sports Center -- merged with Wrestling

  • Nostalgia forum -- The axem and jedi sith forums still exist, they're just now links from this forum.

  • The new quicklinks also look quite a bit better and make more sense.

I plan on phasing out the site forums and the NIFE row at some point by integrating them into the site better.

I will miss having individual game forums. But I think it is for the best with our overall site population.

I was actally just about to ask about this; to be honest it looked like a rendering error when I first saw it with the giant text and everything.

I had the same thought. Consider making them uniform in terms of size, and maybe put them in a grid at least?

Things are better on mobile and on tablets now. My responsive skills are kiiiiinda rusty so they don't scale perfectly, but they're pretty good.

Also if you guys *really* don't like the display of the new quicklinks, there's a plugin to revert back to the old style with them here:

Xhin, you're a brilliant webmaster, but I don't know how anyone can like the display of the new quicklinks. The images are very small, the text ranges from reasonable to massive, and everything is left-justified, so you're not making good use of the screen and users need to scroll way down in order to see the forum title. The biggest text literally says:

GeneralAlso for the drunk & pointless

    [sic]

Can this information be shown using less space? Perhaps it would be best to have a single horizontal bar with 8 icons and uniform text sitting a row above or below, center-justified in their cells, and have this stretch based on the monitor width. With padding on both sides.

Apparently the new css wasnt showing up for some people as well, and this has been fixed.
