Nikkei: Nintendo to release a smaller switch this year, and a more expensive online plan

Note, these are rumors. Comes from a Japanese journalism company

Smaller and cheaper Switch this year with no hardware compromises, as well as a more expensive online subscription for the switch for enthusiasts.

The former, I'm guessing they will use a 12nm node and trim the bezels and give a significantly better battery life. Not sure how much smaller it could get as the social filled up almost all the space on current switch, along with the battery.

New online sub I'm guessing includes snes and maybe 64 games...and maybe finally being able to message your friends.

We may get a smaller switch but I think that would go against the image of it, and I’m not sure if they could or would shrink the joy con and screen size. If anything I can a model being released that has a brighter screen, better battery life and more internal storage like the 3DS revisions.

And for the Switch online I don’t foresee a price increase until they’ve built up a decent subscriber base. Having said that I’d pay a little more a year for access to snes and n64 games.

I personally would prefer a little bit more power. Strap on so xbox one specs for we can play modern games on the go. Id be willing to dish out a little bit more money for that.

Ive been getting a bit of a craving (not sure if this is the appropiate word to use) to play some old school games on the big screen. I would love access to said games on the switch. Ive been thinking of getting an SNES and hacking it. I should move the ps3 into my room and set it up but none of the controls work and I am not sure if you can play ps1 games with a ps4 controller.

I think a Switch Pro with xbone specs is doable in docked mode. 1TFLOP on a new Nvidia soccan match Xbone's 1.3-1.4TFLops. It's just a matter of when. With 7nm, they can definitely do it, but they don't come out until next year in 2020. I think it might be possible with a 12nm.

Instead of a revised system, maybe they could release a dock that increased the power of the switch? That would accomplish the same goal without requiring you to purchase another system.

“Ive been thinking of getting an SNES and hacking it.”

I’m guessing you mean the snes Classic, which I strongly encourage. It’s super easy to hack and add games to it. If you are going to get one then I suggest getting it real soon as Nintendo is only producing them for a little while longer.

I actually have 2 snes classics as I wanted one as a back up incase I bricked the first one. I only used hakchi to add some games. Some other games require to use hakchi and an additional pluginike retroarch which I didn’t do because once you add that on you lose the rewind ability. I think it also alters the amount of save states you can have per game. Either way there are a bunch of YouTube videos on how to hack it and I had mine hacked within 5 min.
