i heard gorguts incorporated noise rock into their music. how true is that? i’ve been thinking about checking them out.

they make heavy use of dissonance and may borrow techniques that are more common in noise rock but i wouldnt say that they directly incorporate noise rock. i have little experience with noise rock so i may be missing some points, though.

heres a quick rundown on gorguts (theyve changed members quite a bit)

Considered Dead (1991) - a relatively straightforward old-school death metal album.

The Erosion of Sanity (1993) - a death metal album with some progressive elements, mainly atypical instruments such as piano.

Obscura (1998) - extremely avant-garde death metal that experiments heavily with dissonance, atonality, vocals that are howled rather than screamed or growled, esoteric lyrics, and mixed tempo/time signature. Widely considered to be one of the best death metal albums of all time - and one of the most difficult to listen to.

From Wisdom to Hate (2001) - a compromise of sounds that is not nearly as harsh as Obscura. Maintains lyrical weirdness by being about ancient Mesopotamia.

Colored Sands (2013) - contains elements of previous Gorguts records but takes a much more relaxed and varied approach to them, fitting into the extreme niche of what I would call "atmospheric technical death metal" with other bands like Ulcerate and Disembowelment. The lyrics relate to the culture of Tibet, including their victimization at the hands of China. This is my personal favorite Gorguts record.

The band's only lifetime member is guitarist/vocalist Luc Lemay, whose musical talent and well-cultured nature inform both the musical and lyrical grandness of the project. However, despite a devastating lineup history, the current incarnation features no slackers. This includes bassist Colin Marston, who might be one of the greatest living guitar players based on the fact that Gorguts is his casual side project - he's better known for playing in Behold the Arctopus, where he plays a bass and lead at the same fucking time.
