My thoughts on the recent Arrowverse crossover special
Posted: Posted November 30th, 2017 by -Riku-

Going into this special I had no clue what the story was going to be. I hadn't really seen any promo material for it except that it was happening. Overall, I really enjoyed this one. It focused on its own story rather than continuing the plots for the four shows, aside from some character growth for Alex and the Firestorm subplot that got kind of resolved. The previous big crossover specials tried too hard to move the other plots along and got dragged down by it.

I felt like this special handled juggling the cast a lot better than last year's big crossover. They managed to provide good reasons for certain characters not being there via the wedding invites. The story itself wasn't anything outstanding, but it was well paced and kept me interested. Steven and Melissa did well playing evil versions of themselves and Tom reprising his role as Thawne was great.

I'd say my biggest problem was Stein's wife. I can't say for certain, but I'm almost certain it was implied that she was dead when Stein first met his new daughter. Also, the opening scene's CGI looked completely fake. These shows use CGI a lot and they're usually pretty good, but the opening scene was even worse than the CGI from the Phantom Menace, which came out in 1999!

I have recently (this month) watched the entire Legends to get caught up and you are correct. When he first meets his daughter both her and Caitlin seem to imply Stein's wife is dead... However the very next time the daughter appears, she talks about her mum as if she were still alive so if it was intended that she died then they dropped the idea almost immediately after.

Okay. Thanks for the clarification

What about the part where Reverse Flash came back for no apparent reason? Is he unkillable now? (and now Zoom's no longer around to re-kill him, and even if he was, he'd just respawn in another world)

I can't believe he AND Ketch got revived so soon after Eggman died. But harder to believe is the villain that died quite unexpectedly after all three events.

Like, seriously. Snart can die but Thawne can't?

Thawne is a living paradox and always will be. Without Eddie around, he can't have been born but without him Barry wouldn't have his powers. Same with Cisco. I hate it, too, but that is why he's still around. Also, there'll be another black flash at some point I bet.

My best theory on how Reverse Flash managed to survive would be that he created a time remnant which then proceeded to go to Earth X and hide out there. Since he was on Earth X and not in the Earth-1 universe one could presume that the Earth-1 timeline stopped applying to him (there's no evidence thus far that it should). Then when he returns to Earth-1 he could potentially be considered as real as anyone else.

Also Black Flash wasn't exactly the only enforcer that the Speed Force had, they could send those creepy dementor things after him if he's still considered a paradox.
