My keto failure for the day

So I went grocery shopping for keto items totally dehydrated, and had to quit half way through. I left the store, went next door, and bought a (low sugar) gatorade and drank half of it because it's what my brain was telling me I needed. It's still loaded with sugar though despite being low sugar. The first ingredient is literally liquid sugar. And I felt amazing after I drank half of it, but I immediately poured the other half out. I was still pretty thirsty but not deathly so. Finished my shopping, bought a coconut water and drank it (there's another 12g carbs on an otherwise empty stomach) and bought three mcdonalds mcdoubles, threw out two sets of buns (fed some crows with that bread) and ate the 6 patties and cheese between two buns for a grand total of like probably 60-65 carbs on the day to probably 65 g fat and 60 g protein.

I feel pretty good but I know it's a slippery slope.

Powerade zero is pretty good. One of the few things you can buy that has a bunch of bioavailable magnesium in it too.

I'll have to check it out. What do they use to flavour it?

I think if your brain is telling you to eat sugar, or drink sugar, it means you're not getting enough sugar. Thanks to the keto diet, you almost collapsed.

A good diet is one you can stick to for the rest of your life that your body won't reject. Just eat well.

Nah. I've been regularly under 30g of carbs (not just sugar) from *all sources* for several years now.

You do need quite a bit more sodium than normal, especially in the beginning -- low insulin promotes sodium wasting, which can cause dizziness and fatigue, or even just simple dehydration. Sugar helps in the sense that the heightened insulin causes sodium and water retention.

That's another way of saying your body has to process more sodium because it doesn't have any sugar. We shouldn't demonize ingredients, we should use them wisely! I love putting fried chicken on top of raw salads: all the oils and breading from the chicken work well in the vegetables, and it pairs together beautifully. But at the same time I also love pairing fruits with an egg and pancakes.

Mariom, I think it was the water I needed more than the sugar. But I wanted to drink a water with electrolytes since I knew I had half an hour of shopping ahead of me. What I really should have done was drink two full glasses of water before I left the house. Then I wouldn't have caved in to the two carb-filled drinks I had. I get plenty of sodium at home.

I just find that if I'm out and I'm already dehydrated, simple spring water doesn't quench my thirst. But it never has, even before I went on keto. I mean it will cure the dehydration over time obviously since it's water. But gatorade and coconut water immediately quench my thirst. The convenience is what I was going for.

Gatorade has buttloads of sugar. So it's strange you're saying Gatorade makes you feel better than water but you're completely denying the sugar situation. Sugar is just one ingredient. Our bodies are designed to process it, just not in buttloads. You need a balance.

For breakfast this morning I had pancakes, blueberries, grapes, and sausage. Unfortunately, it was missing that full richness that my big breakfast usually has. It completely lacked salt and the egg. The sausages didn't have my usual mix of spices: cumin and a bit of allspice or nutmeg would've helped tremendously.

It wasn't the normal Gatorade, it was Gatorade G2 which has like 10 percent of the sugar. I wanted the potassium and sodium, not the sugar. Otherwise I would have bought a full flavour Gatorade.
