I recently began watching the entire Friday the 13th series.

The first two suck. The third one is slightly better. The fourth one is the first one to show self-awareness and significant growth over the previous entries. That's the latest one I've watched and it's my favorite so far.

In general, I prefer overtly supernatural, magical or nightmarish horror. However, the undying madman is proving itself to be an intriguing trope. Because of this, I am having trouble in deciding whether to watch the Halloween series or the Nightmare on Elm Street series next.

Ocean's 8 - It was good. It never felt like a feminist "girl power" movie, it just felt like fun, although there were some aspects of the heist that felt a little too unbelievable but what can ya do. 8/10

Incredibles 2 - It was pretty good. Not total shit like some sequels. It wish it advanced the lore a little bit more if that makes sense. By the end of it all the characters go back to normal as if the movie didn't even happen. The seizure-inducing Screenslaver fight was cool. 7/10

Avengers Infinity War - Fucking boring. I went to see it with my younger brothers and sisters (all 10 or younger) and they didn't like it. The got scared and wanted to leave so I didn't even see the end of it. Is this was normies are watching nowadays? I liked Spider-Man Homecoming but the Avengers was just dark and depressing with shoehorned one-liners and unfunny comic relief in between. 5/10

Black Panther, Infinity War, Deadpool 2, Jurassic World 2, Solo: A Star Wars Story - Disney is making bank off me. lol

Avengers Infinity War - Fucking boring.

I didn't see Thor 3 so the beginning of the movie made almost zero sense to me. And I agree, it wasn't that interesting. Avengers should really just be a TV series. The movie tried to do too much and divided the screen time up waaay too much. And if you missed Thor 3 or Black Panther you're fucked.

Black Panther was a terrible movie as well, cramming racial tension bullshit down the audience's throat instead of just being a good super hero movie about Africa.

I saw Antman and the Wasp, it was better than Avengers but the Ghost villain could have been so much cooler. I like the subtle Tim & Eric reference

I saw Antman and the Wasp,

I did too!

LOL. It was not better than the Avengers. I found it to be the weakest of the Phase 3 films. (Well better than GOTG) but a good time nonetheless.

but the Ghost villain could have been so much cooler.

I agree. I liked her motivations and wish they did a little bit more with them. I am glad it ended how it ended though. The actress is A1 as well.

my only real issue with the movie was the comedy. When anything remotely serious happened there always had to be a joke that killed the mood. Like tone it back Marvel.

My rather affluent friend gave me a crap load of movie passes and a 25 dollar gift card because the chain of theaters that they are for don't exist where she goes to school lol.

I saw the Incredibles 2. It wasn't as good as the original.

Posted July 11th, 2018 by mariomguy

I saw the Incredibles 2. I enjoyed it a good bit, especially how it had matured. They touched on some interesting entry-level intellectual concerns about cape fiction, including strained personal relationships, the effect of hero worship, and egoism of the heroes themselves. As only appropriate, I think, seeing as how the people that watched the original as minors are now adults themselves, possibly even with their own kids.

Posted July 11th, 2018 by Cruinn-Annuin

The first was more focused around the family and the plot felt stronger. Yeah, Incredibles 2 is more mature, and also more complicated, less focused, losing track of the characters we actually care about. The first movie was a perfect package from start to end. That's the benefit of not having to do a sequel: you can do whatever best serves the story, no strings attached.

I disagree. I'm not sure what characters you'd say were "lost track of", but I had no problem following more than one plot.

Posted July 12th, 2018 by Cruinn-Annuin

It's not that there was trouble following the plot, the plot just wasn't that strong.

Posted July 12th, 2018 by mariomguy

What do you mean?

Posted July 12th, 2018 by Cruinn-Annuin

I loooooved Ant-Man and the Wasp. The smaller scale, more personal stakes aspect of both Ant-Man movies are much more my jam. And I also really like that Ant-Man actually feels more like a comedy proper. (I also maintain that Ant-Man movies have had some of the most visually fun and interesting action in any superhero movie. The size shifting stuff paired really well with the phasing ability of Ghost.)

I also really liked that it kinda took a unique approach to its villain. Like, when you really reflect on it, the true villain of the film is some random dude who is essentially a secondary character. Ghost appears to fulfill the role of foil, but the scope of her mission is really small. She isn't motivated by money or power or revenge. She just wants to be cured of her condition. She doesn't even really drive the action, as a villain is supposed to. Because she's not really the villain. And I kind of loved that. I found it structurally more interesting than most Marvel films.

Also saw Jurassic World 2: Jurassic Park 5. It was somehow even more garbage than Jurassic World: Jurassic Park 4. Except it becomes so hilariously schlocky by the second half of the movie that I kinda loved it. It's awful.

Just saw this movie , totally disagree with everything you said this movie was better than the first in every way. Itís avtually less mature( which is a good thing because animated movies that try to be too mature or serious fall flat on the devilry wall-e is an exception because global warming is a real thing) I cared more about the characters and the plot was easier to follow

Watched SORRY TO BOTHER YOU a couple weeks ago. And fuck, what a great movie. Don't read up on it. The trailer gives you a good sense of what the tone is, but doesn't give away too much. Highly recommend it.

I am going to try to watch mission impossible tomorrow. Hopefully it pans out!

I saw it. I wasn't impressed. Tom Cruise was basically invisible as far as his acting was concerned.

I've heard its the best one yet. Ill probably like it. Even though I'm not the biggest fan of the series or of the actor.

I saw the new MI. It was dumb as fuck, but in an enjoyable way. It's very aware that it's a popcorn flick.

Posted August 4th, 2018 by Cruinn-Annuin

I believe MI was the last movie I watched. It was a good time. Something about seeing superman duking it out against tom cruise put a stupid smile on my face.

Black Panther

Avengers: Infinity War

Deadpool 2

Solo: A Star Wars Story

Incredibles 2

Ant-Man & the Wasp

Christopher Robin

I actually liked all of them to varying degrees. Nothing left me emotionally unsatisfied. None are as up there for me as my favourite film of last year, that being 'Logan'.

I'll likely be seeing Venom, Bohemian Rhapsdy, Aquaman, Spider-Man: Enter the Spider-verse, Bumblebee and Mary Poppins Returns. May wait on reviews for some of them.

December is going to be expensive though. With Star Wars out og the way, everyone us crowding that month.

Caught Venom last night with a friend. Over all an Okay movie. The best bits are Venoms and Eddies internal conversations. Everything else was mediocre. (The action was pretty cool though)

I would like to see a sequel but it is not needed. It was a lot better than I expected.

Rewatched the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. First time Ive rewatched the entire trilogy in well over a decade. Phenomenal set of movies. I only had access to the theatrical release and not the extended editions. I guess that will be another adventure for another time.

I watched "Eighth Grade" last night. Good movie. I was able to relate to this film in more ways than one.

Creed II

Great film! I would be content if they stop the Creed films here. If they were to do a sequel I hope they make it a character piece which covers Adonis life outside the ring. Maybe have him do one last fight while dealing with the death of rocky and some other personal things.

Mission Impossible: Fallout

I enjoyed this film. One of the trailers showed superman about to throw down with tom cruise. I was instantly sold on that potential fight alone.

Blackkklansman

I just wrapped this bad boy up. Powerful film. Enjoyed seeing Buscemi in there. Adam Driver has been killing it. One of my favorite actors. Loved him in Silence and in this film as well. The end credit scene fuck. Our friendly neighborhood white supremacist defended the actions of that prick but after watching that footage. Fuck.....

Caught the Death of Stalin and Annihilation. The former was a screwed up but funny film. The latter.... was okay. Visually impressive one of those movies I wish I had seen in theaters I found it to be overhyped for sure but I enjoyed it better than Arrival.

also Tessa Thompson as a physicist? sign me up.

I also started support the girls. Will watch it some time soon. A lot of these movies recommended by Obama can be found on either Hulu or Prime.

I am 6 episodes into Punisher season 2. It is okay. The action is no where as good as it was in Season 1. The villain has been pretty weak thus far.

I was hoping for some top tier stuff. Daredevil season 3 had set the high bar for the netflix shows. So far this season fails to meet those expectations. Ill keep watching for Jon Bernthal and his sidekick. But I am hoping it gets a little more interesting.
