If you have a PS4, xbone, or switch, just letting you know the demo for the game has been up for a while. I played it on the switch earlier today... I haven't played megaman game in ages.. I like the visuals and the new mechanic is interesting.. but holy hell does mega man usually have a steep learning curb? I couldn't beat the demo stage but I get better. The stage is also really long and doesn't have any save points(which megaman games don't have.. but I heard this game's stage is longer than a y previous megaman stages).

Anyway, the game is gonna be $30. My impressions are good,. but I'm not sure yet if I'm convinced I'll buy the game if all the stages are like this. I did play it on regular difficulty so.

imo not so much on the older games, but as I recall 9 and 10 felt relatively challenging upfront. Which I think is pretty good to add to the lifespan of a relatively short game. I bought 9 on release day and I remember some stages taking me multiple tries to clear, but a second playthrough (and third, and so on) went much more smoothly. With experience, you get more comfortable with your movement and have more knowledge about what enemies/traps do and how to handle them effectively. Plus, you'll know which stages give you which powerups, so you can prioritize what you want.

no hard figures to back this up, but I got the feeling that it was notably longer - maybe 50% or so? There are something like 3-4 checkpoints in the demo stage, but you're still limited to a few lives (there's an extra life at one point in the stage, and I haven't seen any randomly drop so idk if that's possible). That's the sticking point for its learning curve, especially in the face of instant-death hazards like pits and being crushed. I beat the boss twice on Normal (wanted to compare the Japanese voice track the second time around - JP Block Man is bleh btw) - was kinda hoping it would unlock Superhero difficulty to see what that was like, but no.

I'm not really feeling the double gear system tbh. Charge and slide is fine, rush coil is classic, having a weapon that gives you some extra mobility is okay. But I don't really care for the temporary power/speed boosts on top of that. Especially given that they can modify your special weapons as well.

overall it was aight, would definitely play at some point but idk if I'd pay full price at release. Maybe if I get eshop credit as a gift or if I catch a good sale sometime.

Whoops, there is a check point before the miniboss. I get screwed at the moving spike trap. I need to call his dog to jump for that one and do a quick slide. Yeah maybe I'll wait for a sale.

IIRC there's a checkpoint after both minibosses, and then another right before the boss.

speaking of the moving wall section (that is what you're referring to, right?), I don't really like the variable length of it. If you move fast through the first one, you can get through after two sections of wall fall down. But if you're a little slower, a third section will fall down and you'll have to traverse that. That in and of itself isn't a problem, but I don't like that it's not very clear what (and where) the cutoff is. Because over a number of playthroughs, I've lost several lives by being a tiny bit slow and having it decide to drop section 3 directly on my head, which kills you instantly.

also something I've seen only once so far: killing an enemy can drop a "roulette" powerup that visually switches between several possible powerups. It changes quickly, though, so I'm not sure how feasible it is to get a specific one (and how much the speed gear might help).
