Mass Effect on hold
Posted: Posted May 13th, 2017 by Moonray

So apparently EA has put development of any new games on hold. No word on if this affects planned story DLC (though they did confirm multiplayer DLC will still be made).

They've moved a bunch of staff from the team to help with other projects (like the new Bioware IP and Battlefront 2).

Speaking of the new IP, apparently that has been delayed to April 2018 at the earliest (but probably later). Hopefully we'll get to see something of it at E3 this year.

They should focus on fixing Andromeda before they go and produce more trash.

Many of the problems are too deep in the core of the game that you can't fix it. When you ignore the bugs and stuff (which I hear they've released a few patches to fix already) you've got things like the open world design, the lackluster story, the lackluster lore additions (for the most part), etc.

This isn't a ME3 situation where it was just one small (if significant) part of the game sucked, it's ingrained in pretty much the entire game post-tutorial mission (like seriously that very first mission was great why couldn't the whole game have been like that).

The only ways forward are either paid DLC that has significantly better design and story, which most people will moan that they have to pay for DLC to get the experience they wanted... Or make a sequel that doesn't suffer from the same mistakes.

At least the new IP is being worked on by the Mass Effect 3 team (at least that's what sites were saying last year) so there's hope for that game.

Mass Effect 3 had near-game-breaking annoyances too like obnoxiously long and frequent loading screens that weren't well disguised. Ever since bioware finished the ME2 DLC they've gone down hill.

Yeah, man. I'm playing Mass Effect 3 right now and I can't say I've noticed "obnoxiously long loading screens." Seems to be about on the level of ME2 and ME1 to me.

Besides the fact that ME3 was the one game in the series with the least amount of performance issues, how were the load screens "near-game-breaking" in any way? The only one I recall being a bother was when transitioning between the War Room and the CIC.

I don't even think that was a common complaint when the game first came out? Literally my only issue with ME3 was its ending (and the "retcon" of certain choices from previous game), the rest of the game was to the same standard as the rest of the trilogy.

The only problem I had with ME3 was the ending choices, and then how bioware released the extended cut ending to try to fix it but made it worse in my opinion.

Orion that is the main one. And I said they were annoyances not issues. Obviously they don't affect the game other than being constantly annoying.
