We're gonna need a bigger boat.
Lost in Space 2018

I watched all 10 episodes in one day and I really enjoyed it. Dr. Smith wasn't all that great a villain, though not for lack of trying on her actress's part, as she never really seemed threatening or sympathetic to me or she didn't make me hate her enough. The design of the robot was very different to any previous incarnation. It doesn't have the elongated head or wheels like a treadmill. It's more humanoid than anything, though not always. It's face is a bunch of glowing lights that make it hard to read.

The standouts, for me, were the kids. The three Robinson kids all were fantastic and played their parts well. Judy is the oldest and often is the rule follower, but doesn't always obey. She sometimes follows her heart and it's part of her arc. Penny is the middle child and often butts heads with whoever is in charge, but it's clear she cares deeply for her family. Will's actor doesn't have a lot of big moments and he's a little rough around the edges, but I still think he played the boy well. Will goes from insecure, scared, and feeling out of place to being the one who saved the family, an action that COULD have led to his death if something went wrong. The way the kids play off the robot is well done and made me smile every time.

Even if you've only ever seen the late 90's movie version, like myself, I still suggest you give this a watch. The actors are all great, the characters are all believable, the CGI is really good, and the story is, for the most part, paced out really well. There are a few times where things slow down a bit too much or someone does something stupid, but they're easily forgiven. If you haven't already, give this show a watch

I agree Dr. Smith was an awfully written character but the actress did very well with what she was given, it was entirely on the writing team.

The robot was awesome and, while I'm not that familiar with the old stuff, I like the new story they created for it. That it is almost entirely practical effects (a guy in a really well designed suit) also makes it more interesting. They certainly manage to blend the CGI moments well with the suit moments too.

That's another thing I liked about the show. They clearly tried to do everything they could with practical effects, only resorting to CGI for the stuff that simply wasn't possible of feasible.

That was a suit? Damn that was impressive. Also, I recently saw a short video of Will recording a video before leaving Earth and I was wrong about his actor's skill. The small facial movements and expressions that he goes through while recording the journal entry really show off this kid's skill.

I have to applaud the show for having Judy being Maureen's daughter from a previous relationship but it only being mentioned twice and both times it's not put at the forefront of the conversation. I also love how well Judy works as a big sister to Penny and Will and as a friend to Don.

Don is easily in my top five favorite characters. He does some shady things, but he does ultimately do the right thing when given the option. He's also pretty much the Han Solo of the show, only not as charismatic as Solo. His relationship with Judy often made me question if the writers were going to have a romance between the two and I'm glad they didn't go that route. I also love how the Robinsons have made him a member of their family.

Despite how much I enjoyed this show, there were some parts I didn't like or thought fell flat. Also, fun fact, is played by the original Will Robinson from the old TV show
